1st WPCentral App Request - Ffffound by RogueCode

It's well known Windows Phone is missing some apps that we'd like to see. A few weeks ago we were missing a solid app for the site Ffffound and decided on a whim to ask developers to make one. RogueCode answered our app-request and bam...here we are.

If you have never been to the site Ffffound (www.ffffound.com) you should take a moment and do just that, don't worry, we'll wait. Okay, as you can see, Ffffound is a site dedicated to pop art, photography and image design. Some really interesting pics are curated there and they more often than not they tend to make exciting wallpapers for your Windows Phone Lock-screen, hence our interest in wanting an app. Within a few days of RogueCode taking us up on our offer and tossing some ideas back and forth between us and him, he had a finalized app that was ready.  And darn it all, it's a gorgeous little thing--fast, smooth and intuitive to use.

The app features the ability to save, favorite and even share any images, not to mention it is easy to navigate and surprisingly fast, even over 3G. The app features a Live Tile too that flips over revealing the latest image on the site. So if you're into pop art, interesting images or photography, or you're just looking for a sweet resource for wallpapers, this is your app. You can grab it here for $0.99 with a free trial in the Marketplace. Also check out his other apps, like Tweet This Song.

Oh and we're thinking of making this a regular feature: we ask a developers to make an app, work with them on design and features and then we highlight it on the site. Anyone else think that's a good idea?

That app is so perfect! How could they have conceptualized it in a few days rather then developed and produced it? It's almost like looking at what WP8 might possibly look like. It's a evolution of the current Metro design language. And, it functions so smoothly, exactly like native applications do. You guy's got to call MS about this one. This is a revolution all over again! Great work, and I hope to see more apps looking and functioning like this in the near future. Man!

Wow, thanks so much :).

Thanks for getting this.

Congrats for making things happen!
Now get after Comixology to make the comic book app.
Also, I recently found out doctors won't adopt Windows Phone until it gets the Epocrates app. They stuck with Palm, Blackberry and Windows Mobile until iPhone and Android got it. It's a nearly universally used app in the medical profession.

Wow... talk about productivity!  Very nicely done :)
Now I just wish there's an app that promotes people to take artistic pictures with their built in camera without any touchups.  Should have some interesting shots!

App keeps crashing on me when I go about 4-5 pages back..

sfleuriet says:

Restarted the phone, and the app still randomly crashes while browsing through many pages. I'd like to sit and look thru all the images for an hour, but it keeps crashing thus losing my place! Using a Samsung Focus S

RogueCode says:

Sorry about this :-/.
I will check it out right away.

PLEASE - for the love of God, a Pandora app...PLEASE!
Yes, I know Pandora's HTML5 format should play on the browser, but it is not an elegant or reliable solution on the DVP.

"PLEASE - for the love of God, a Pandora app...PLEASE!"

See here.

AriesDog says:

Have you tried the Last.fm app? The premium version (no ads) is free for Windows Phone users. I've found it every bit as good as Pandora.

firebrewd says:

The interface is fine and all, but I dislike the custom loader for each image, the background image (which is unnecesary and distracting), the triangles on the left (an idea of Metro is to make things intuitive, which is why the text is cropped most of the time; it can be easily resolved with a pivot), the bounce animations (which feel out of place), and some other details.
Seems like nitpicking, but this could be a perfect Metro app with an interresting interface. Wish I could help developers somehow.

this is a brilliant idea! can you guys try asking someone to develop an alternative PDF reader? Adobe reader sucks. or is there a legal issue about creating a pdf reader app? :(

This app is stupid good.
I've wasted so much time on it lately.  I got his other app metro walls.  Can't get the purchase to work for some reason right now but as soon as it does it is mine.
Damn fine job.

RogueCode says:

Thanks alot :D
p.s. The app is called Metro Wall (without the S).

podsnap says:

Beautiful app RogueCode.
I love the slide left to see the related.
My one request would be to have more of the related images (rather than just three).
Went from seeing the site for the first time, to seeing the app, to trying the app, to buying the app quicker than any other app. Keep up the good work. Off to see your other apps now.

RogueCode says:

I did consider having more but decided to keep it as quick as possible.

podsnap says:

Yes, on reflection I think you're right.
It's always tempting to go further but then you can end up with a messy app.
Good call.

Jazmac says:

Very, very, nice job. I dig it. Very Windows Phone worthy. Good job ffffound and Daniel.
