Another day, another Facebook Beta update for Windows Phone 8

Facebook Beta

One good thing about betas is they tend to get a lot of updates. One bad thing about betas is they tend to get a lot of updates. See what happened there?

In this case, Facebook beta has graduated to the not so exciting number with no changelog present. That means we can surmise it has “bug fixes and optimizations” aka the catch all for all app updates.

So now you can keep your WhatsApp update happy with your updated Facebook. Everyone wins!

Download v5.0.2.2 of Facebook Beta here in the Store. Windows Phone 8 only.

Whoo. This app is slowly becoming awesome for me.

rodneyej says:

I'm beginning to think some of these updates have the "placebo effect"...

mjfadaway says:

+1025...see what I just did? :)

rodneyej says:

Yes, I hope you get your T-Mobile version,, my son. I hope you get it good...

Too many updates, I'm going to ran out of my data plan soon :P

Fndlumia says:

Free WiFi hotspots

Quin 2013 says:

Uh, I think you meant to say"RUN" and not "ran" as in past tense.

Genom Chaos says:

So is the beta ahead of the original fb app? It looks the same to me now.

Fndlumia says:

Yes, among other things ability to unlike

rockstarzzz says:

Beta are always meant to be ahead of stable versions as they have added unstable features I suppose.

Leapo says:

Notifications still don't work, at all.

s3rgiu83 says:

What drives me crazy is receiving two weeks old notifications... Happens to me alot ...

nizzon says:

Yep. Sucks. Should be a priority.

DenniSundaY says:

Weird because I have the official app and I got my notification right on time yesterday :P

topleya says:

Hopefully I'll get push notifications back

Hopefully they've fixed the refresh issue. Its driving me crazy...

rodneyej says:

I hate when you click on a picture, then return and it goes back to the top... DRIVES ME FREEKIN CRAZY AAAHHHHHHHH$@FSG@SD$%#@&%$%&**%%$❕❗❕❗❕❔❔❔❔❔❕⬆❕⬆❕⬆❗❗

rodneyej says:

Did you post feedback on this❔

I've been doing feedback on this from the beginning. Its the one thing that's stops me from bothering with this app.

rodneyej says:

Did you post feedback on this❔

Josh Harman says:

I've been posting feedback and sending emails about notifications for months. Its done a lot of good (sarcasm).

danielgray says:

Sure that doesn't happen on the Iphone. This should be top priority.

Daniel_H_UK says:

Works great on the 920 bit still slow on my sisters 520 which is a shame :(

Half the RAM and a slower processor - what do you expect?

erfanullah says:

It runs fluid on my Lumia 720 which has same processor and RAM capacity as 520.

Eas195 says:

Yeah, same as mine does ;)

Spedez says:

Free some storage space or reboot the phone. Could help...

q21701 says:

And yet, no beta for WP7. Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!

StevenChoon says:

even no update for the official facebook apps..

theroyboy44 says:

Yea the 7.x are like the iPhone 4 and before because they aren't even gonna get the ios7 update. Windows is working hard to innovate and catch up so they can't always waste time to update the older versions if the work put in on them will be alot and wont really benefit much. Sorry bro I feel you but that's just how its gonna be man!

Agent-P says:

If we're comparing to the iPhone, then it should be pointed out that the iPhone 4 actually is getting iOS 7. It's just a very stripped down version that won't have quite a few of the features but still looks the same. I feel like WP 7.X is in a similar boat as it looks exactly like WP 8 but it doesn't have all the features.

No need to invest resources to create or make the app compatible to wp 7.x when we can just focus on the future. There's no easy way saying this but... "7.x" will eventually faze out

UzaiBaka says:

Sadly true, wp7 was basically pre-alpha state, then they scratched that and made wp8 with is their beta stage for the next WP update, aka release candidate stage.

Eas195 says:

That's true for me, as WP8 has many things to be fixed on. But the good news is, we, the WP8 users, can upgrade our devices to WP8.1 or maybe even WP9 to get a final or maybe a refined stage.

Honestly, this will become less of an issue as time goes on and more and more people who adopted WP7 extremely late upgrade to WP8.

Residing says:

Do you really want a beta FB app for WP7.x?  I wouldn't!
Let them use the WP8 users as beta testers for the app first, then let them port the refined version to WP7.x.

Idk which one to use anymore. Obviously the non beta is more stable while the beta has more features (or it should).
I don't want to be a beta tester forever... Hmmm what to do?
Think I'll keep using the official fb app for now and have the beta there just incase...

zishbu says:

Sorry this is off topic, but any news on whatsapp update? (runs away and hides after planting troll bait)

zishbu says:

Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

Khoa Lai says:

they've just released a new update with voice call supported. Haven't tried it though.

WPSteve says:

It's official. Delete the official.

Oxymoron428 says:

I don't understand why they won't add landscape mode when updating status and commenting... doesn't it make sense to be able to do that?

Am I the only one that wants this feature?

Quin 2013 says:

Seriously, that's one of many things I've mentioned on feedback.

My #1 is when I click to view a pic/post, then go back and effin refreshes and takes me back to the to post, leaving me with having to scroll down a million years to where I was. Effin efff!!!

sManowar says:

What's the difference between the beta and the newly revamped Facebook app?

cwc2311 says:

It seems to have fixed the bug where notifications weren't clearing. More importantly, it allows you to unlike pages & unfriend people.

Quin 2013 says:

I think after receiving a ton of crash reports at the point if boot from me and bunch of others, they have finally fixed that ONE thing and nothing else.

Luiz Eduardo says:

I have no problem with notifications in the Beta version. The only problem I have with Facebook now is not even directly with it (the message built in app won't update correctly. It only shows the first thing the person sends me and that's all! I need to keep opening the app, and it's horrible to type there)

purevibz says:

What is taking them so long to fix the emoticons, that should be the easiest fix.

Davmas55 says:

Keep getting an error when sharing pages,,,this may be due to the pages privacy settings???

topleya says:

It is pathetic that a company like Microsoft cant make this work

Quin 2013 says:

I agree. I was very much on board with the beta until so many updates later that I'm at the point of not using fb on my 920 at all and just wait til I get to one of my pc's/laptops.

Seriously, withe the last two updates, they've made it impossible for me to even try to care at all.

taymur says:

Facebook chat doesn't work in people hub, and chat in thus app is a burden, what to do, and don't offer non official solutions, I hate them all

rohitmarines says:

Can any one tel me if call recording feature is coming in gdr 2 update.....

Quin 2013 says:

That would be a huge plus!

kirklyt says:

With a little more than 3mins of use, I already emailed 2 bug reports upon restarting the app becoz of crashes...

Quin 2013 says:

rohitmarines says:

Go for IM +PRO app its very gud for fb chatting and we stay connected too

topleya says:

Does anyone get toast notifications?

Mine is totally broke

Quin 2013 says:

Yes, but its very spotty and not accurate to when it's posted. As a matter of fact, that's how the majority of toasts work on my 920. And I'm connected on LTE + WIFI 24/7!

I really hope gdr2 fixes all these issues. I'm only 7 months with this phone and there are many unresolved issues.

Kadcidxa says:

Another day Windows Phone 7 users getting left behind.

Ticomfreak says:

Off topic, but did anyone else's phones randomly crash today? Both my Lumia 920's just randomly shut off around the same time...

damien-tt says:

No, but my 16GB microsd died. :(

walter1832 says:

No, mine is ok, but I did save money by switching to Gieko

dfranc898 says:

But... What about the update promised for WP 7.x? Come on...

lonbraj says:

I hate the fact that notifications don't bring you to the group post that generated them. What's the point of getting notified if I can't find where it came from?

Quin 2013 says:

If you're talking about the ESPN app, then yes, I 100% agree. The rest is very spotty at getting toast.

What in particular are you experiencing?

xankazo says:

I'm not falling into temptation. It's the third time that installing this app messes with the built-in chatting app.

Kian Gorji says:

Ooooooh, really? So is this the cause of my broken built-in chat?

danielgray says:

I uninstalled it, but chat still didn't work properly. Did you do anything else to make it work.

xankazo says:

Yes, unfortunately, reseting the phone to factory defaults. :(

Jay Bennett says:

I can assure you that this app cannot affect your built in messaging app. If the built in chat is broken from Facebook messaging (which I notice a fair bit as well) it's because of issues on Microsoft's live service which interacts with Facebook and delivers them to your phone as messages. Drop some feedback directly to MS if you're seeing problems

mxtremex6 says:

When this app will come to WP7?

Glueharbour says:

Still can't use it because of the battery drain..

Quin 2013 says:

Yeah, I'm seeing a huge change in my battery charge capacity. Something's draining the battery and I'm suspecting it the beta.

aerosmillie says:

The app isn't as smooth as i would like it to be but im not sure any fb app is! Weirdly it can be over sensitive to touch when scrolling and select a link without wanting to which can get annoying (htc8x)

Quin 2013 says:

The only stable way to use fb is on a pc/laptop browser. :'(

uopjo6 says:

Yet, still no share to group.

useme2useyou says:

What is the difference between this beta version and the proper version that was released a little while back? Seems this get little updates and the other doesn't...

Think the length of the pull to refresh has been shortened

blasher4 says:

Love the updates. I always get excited when I see them

What about windows phone 7 devices?

Shake to Update!! Did anyone see this? I just discovered it now.

BaritoneGuy says:

I believe this has been supported for a while now.

Aarav Sharma says:

According To Wpcenral Facebook Beta Is Also Available In W 7.8 Devices But When?

One guy started commenting stupid comments on my status and I was able to delete his comments!
