App Updates

It has been a rather quiet week so far with the news, but we're looking at more app updates being pushed through the Windows Phone Store. Updating your arsenal of content will surely make up for the lack of hardware announcements and help you through the wait for Windows Phone 8.1.

Today, we're looking at both 2flicka and Cal, not to mention some other apps worth noting. Slip past the break for more details.

2flicka

2flicka (1.6.1)

2flicka is a super-popular, unofficial Flickr client for Windows Phone. The app has been published on the store for some time, accumulating numerous positive reviews. Being bumped to version 1.6.1, this release addresses an issue with logging into the Flickr service.

Should you be unable to authorize 2flicka when logging in, the app will prompt you to utilize an alternative option. It's a handy fix should you be having trouble attempting to get access to your account when on the move.

You can download 2flicka from the Windows Phone Store for free. We should note that the app isn't normally free, but will remain free for the next three weeks.

Cal Lead

Cal (1.3.0)

Cal is a superb calendar app for Windows Phone. Sporting a minimalist interface and lightweight experience, this beautiful app is well worth checking out, should you be slightly fed up of the native calendar app from Microsoft.

Here's what is new in version 1.3:

  • Translations
  • New way of switching between calendar views
  • Ability to set agenda and week view as default
  • Fixed some Google and Outlook calendar sync issues
  • Fixed live tiles not updating when not on a cellular connection
  • Fixed occasional crash on launch

Download Cal from the Windows Phone Store for $1.99.

Anyone know if Cal is planning on adding exchange support? Its the only thing holding me back from using it.

There is a problem with Outlook currently. Try other apps like Chronos and True Calendar. They all can't connect to Outlook. There is nothing I can do unfortunately...

Has anyone heard if MSA is goiing to open the calendar api in 8.1 so we can do third party calendar editing in the apps?

This the first time ever that the Store tile didn't give me updates for the entire week :( What's happening?

Is the sync problem with Cal that it can't connect to Outlook.com at all? My phone just shows "Verifying" and then I get an error message. Also, it crashes any time I try to make an event
