In a late breaking news story, Microsoft today announced due to feedback from the Xbox and gaming community they have changed “certain policies” regarding their controversial digital-rights management features of the upcoming Xbox One.

The details are listed on the Xbox news site, which is being hammered left and right, resulting in errors when trying to load.

It’s been a long, long time since we’ve written about Fox News for Windows Phone. The app was last updated, at least significantly, back in late 2011 when it picked up some ‘Mango’ features, including pinnable sub-sections. (Fox News was also one of the first major news apps on Windows Phone 7, going back to January 2011).

That version is still on the Store, virtually untouched but Fox has also co-released a separate “4.0” version strictly for Windows Phone 8 users—a nice move.

Nokia has bumped the NFC Writer app for Lumia Windows Phones to version 1.0.0.57. The first change we've noticed is the product link for grabbing more tags off Amazon now works in the UK (we've noticed the app crashed when selecting the link). That said, there have been reports that the app is continuing to cause problems for consumers with crash reports coming in regarding the purchase link. Looks like Nokia has to have a deeper look.

We've covered Photoplay in the past and more recently took a quick look at an upcoming update that was to introduce push notifications and Live Tile support. This new release is now available and has been pushed out to the store. If you're not familiar with the brand, Photoplay is an Instagram-like service that enables consumers to utilise smartphones for photography and share shots on social networks, as well as their own.

One of our favorite calendar apps on Windows Phone (we have a quite a few choice options, these days) is Simple Calendar and the developer has been busy polishing up his 2.0 overhaul that recently went out.

Version 2.2. is now live in the Store and brings with it numerous bug fixes, performance tune-ups and some minor changes.

We have another vague update inbound for the popular (and long overdue) Temple Run on Windows Phone 8. The addictive game has now been bumped to version 1.5.2.0 with no Changelog in tow, unfortunately. That means we’ll have to rely on you for some testing to see if you can discern any noteworthy changes.

We can say that if you were hoping that the 1GB of RAM limit was lifted, you will be disappointed. Firing up the QR link for our adorable Lumia 521 resulted in the now familiar “App not compatible” error message. Sorry folks.

Looks like Nokia is finally letting the cat out of the bag, if only slightly, on their latest Conversations post from their official blog.

The post, entitled “41 million reasons to zoom in to Nokia Conversations on July 11th”, simply recapitulates the media invite news we reported on last week—namely that Nokia will be holding a press conference in NYC to announce new hardware.

It's no secret that Windows Phone owners have endured confusing and frustrating update processes on the platform and while Microsoft has looked at improving the speed and reliability of the rollouts, we're still not quite there yet.

Rumour has it now that the company is looking at revamping the update process once again from the release of GDR2 onwards. Whether or not this is good news remains to be seen.

The T-Mobile Lumia 521 is essentially the Nokia Lumia 520 with the usual North America mobile operator branding for exclusivity. The Windows Phone has been rather difficult to locate, particularly at Walmart stores. The device has appeared on SlickDeals and we've looked around the Walmart online store at various locations to confirm that there's stock available, depending on your location.

The Xbox Red Stripe Deal of the Week doesn’t update until Thursday, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find a new Xbox Windows Phone deal today. The good folks at Gameloft are running a little sale of their own, with almost every single one of their titles marked down in price. The best deals of the bunch have to be The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises for three bucks apiece - those games only came out in March!

Full list with descriptions and store links after the break.

Windows Phone is performing well in Estonia, according to a report over on ZDNet. Mobile operator EMT states that Android is the most popular platform and sports a rather large lead over Windows Phone, iOS and competing mobile options. That said, Windows Phone is said to have more than 10 percent of the market, beating Apple sitting on 9 percent. Not only is Microsoft sitting firmly in second position, but we're even seeing some movement with iOS.

Disney is finding a new lease of life for its Mickey Mouse intellectual property with a mobile game and cartoon shorts series that will go head-to-head with the likes of Angry Birds and Talking Friends to win the hearts of children. News flash. Nokia is making a Windows Phone that is going to be packing a camera with something like 41MP. That’s bonkers and we’re getting more and more proof of the existence of this upcoming, groundbreaking phone. We were recently invited to a press event in NYC on July 11th where we suspect and expect to officially learn all about the Lumia “EOS”. But until then we keep getting leaks here and there about the phone.

Today is no different.

Feed Me is a fantastic RSS Reader for our Windows Phones. But recently the app ran into a few technical difficulties with the NewsBlur feed.

As we understand it, NewsBlur changed its API which has in turn caused a few headaches. The developer has let us know they are feverishly working on an update that will right the ship. They are hoping to have a fix in place by the end of the week.

If you have never heard of Microsoft’s social network, So.cl, we aren’t surprised. The service launched back in December 2011 and was a private beta for students of the University of Washington, Syracuse University, and New York University. Currently, the site is open to all users, but Microsoft keeps So.cl on the down low.

So.cl is a truly unique experience which tries to mix Bing with social networking. The site can be described as a mixture between pinterest and tumblr; it is currently being run by Microsoft’s research division.

File this under “Did they just say that?”

In an interview with the Financial Times, Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei's consumer business group, said that the company would be open to buying Nokia to boost their smartphone sales, especially in non-Asian markets where the Chinese OEM is still facing some challenges.

Cnet interprets some of Yu's comments as suggesting that if Huawei were to buy Nokia, Windows Phone itself may be up for reconsideration. The reason is price: Windows Phone still has a license fee, whereas Android is "free". We're not confident that Huawei would do such a thing, even if they were to buy Nokia, but it's clear they don't have much faith in the Microsoft OS either.

Liquid Daffodil should be a name many of you know by now. They’re one of the more pervasive and popular developers for Windows Phone, having made such unique apps as glƏƏk!, Add to Contacts, flyby! and JamTiles, to name just a few.

When a developer creates so many apps and values customer feedback as much as Liquid Daffodil, sometimes the Windows Phone Store just doesn’t cut it, hence the creation of the forthcoming ✿+☮=❥. By the way, we can just call that app ‘Liquify’, which is the name users can search for in the Store (or by the developers name, of course).

So what is this mysterious app? Check out our video preview after the break...

Yesterday we previewed Bethesda’s The Evil Within, a gruesomely atmospheric survival horror game coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 in 2014. As it turns out, publishing giant Bethesda has two more titles in store for the Xbox One. In the fourth quarter of this year they’ll release Wolfenstein: The New Order for both the One and Xbox 360. Then in spring 2014 the eagerly anticipated The Elder Scrolls Online comes along.

We saw and played both games at E3 2013 last week. I can safely say that fans of each series will NOT be disappointed with either installment. Read on for previews and the latest trailers!

After we've seen the RM-877 (possibly the highly anticipated EOS) pass through FCC, the RM-941 has since followed through. The Nokia device passed through with support for AT&T's GSM 850 and 1900 bands and will feature a WVGA display. While we're not seeing LTE capabilities in the US, such frequencies are believed to be included outside these two regions.
