What's your favorite Xbox game on Windows Phone?

It's Friday, so we should have some fun. What's more fun than talking about your favorite Windows Phone game with Xbox? Earlier this week Microsoft released Age of Empires: Castle Siege for Windows Phone (and Windows 8.1). It's an awesome new game that plays similar to mobile games Clash of Clans and Cloud Raiders. Unlike those two games, you can directly control your troops during attacks AND you get Xbox Live integration.

The most recent update to the evolving Skype client for Windows Phone brought location sharing, a useful feature if you use Skype for frequent peer to peer messaging.

Users can just tap the '+' sign and instead of sharing a photo, they can choose their position, creating a little map and a hyperlinked address within the chat. Tapping that address brings up a full-screen map and you can then use the up arrow icon near the top to send to the Windows Phone mapping system to get directions to the location.

Samsung so far has been mum on the update to Windows Phone 8.1, with not a single handset worldwide getting the OS refresh, including Verizon's recent high-end ATIV SE, which seems built for 8.1.

If there were any doubt of Samsung's commitment, even if it is half-hearted, users can now put their worries aside as the Korean company has a new app on the store dubbed ATIV Clock. Ironically, it is only for Windows Phone 8.1, as the new OS gives developers the ability to update the Live Tile in real-time.

A new firmware update for the Lumia 625, Lumia 925 and Lumia 525 started to roll out just over a week ago for a few users and with it came a small, but useful feature: static IP. The ability to set one's particular internet gateway and IP details is something nuanced, but essential for some users on various networks. Windows Phone's ability to support static IPs is as far as we know dependent upon the phone manufacturer as the OS itself does not have this baked in.

The firmware itself is slight, coming in at just 18 MB. It bumps the revision number from 1425.0002 to 1425.0003 on most devices, bringing the new static IP option, network+ option and some bug fixes, according to reader of the site Vinod K.

Having recently published a roundup of horror games coming to Xbox One and 360 next month, it's time to look at another batch of upcoming games. This time we turn our eyes and hearts to three distinct games from French publisher Focus Home Interactive.

Later this month, Focus will release Crimes & Punishments: Sherlock Holmes for Xbox One and 360 at retail. Then in October, Styx: Master of Shadows will sneak onto Xbox One and other platforms. Finally, the off-the-wall Kinect shooter Blue Estate is due out on Xbox One shortly after that. With adventure and investigations, stealth and action, and motion-based shooting, that's quite a diverse spread of games. Read on for plenty of details and trailers!

When it comes to commercials for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone, as they say in Hollywood, everyone is a critic. Either the ad should be complex or minimal, long or short, everybody has his or her idea of what works.

Philippines-based Cherry Mobile is one of the more recent budget manufacturers to jump on the Microsoft train, and they seem to be going all in with their latest commercial.
