Microsoft has published a new documentary on Xbox One looking into the world of Interactive Gateway, a UK-based games studio behind the title Spectra. Louis Deane and his colleagues talk about how the startup joined the Microsoft Ventures accelerator and how the game itself came to be. If you're not familiar with Spectra, it's a retro arcade-style racing game, which makes good use of an awesome soundtrack to produce a procedurally generated experience.

Say goodbye to Bing apps, and hello to new MSN apps

Microsoft has just updated the suite of Bing apps on Windows Phone. The update drops the Bing branding and replaces it with MSN. So far we're not seeing any new features in these apps, mostly just the branding change.

If you own a game console like the Xbox One, the chances are good that you are using it for more than just playing games. According to a new study conducted by Parks Associates, 44 percent of the 10,000 US homes that were surveyed that have at least one connected CE device consider their game console their primary device to access non-gaming Internet content, such as streaming video services like Netflix.

When the World Cup ended, I became highly interested in watching more football (soccer) games. Friends who follow football more than me said I have to check out the English Premier League (premierleague.com). I'm in luck because NBC here in the United States has acquired rights to broadcast all the games. Their app, NBC Sports Live Extra, is also available on Windows Phone so you can stream the games live or watch replays and highlights.

It looks like Microsoft and their Nokia Lumia 830 are getting ready to begin hitting markets worldwide. An upcoming press conference in India may reveal the time and pricing for that phone and its sibling the Lumia 730 sometime tomorrow.

Likewise, we are now hearing from one of our sources that the Lumia 830 for AT&T should be hitting shelves the first week of November. This time falls in line with Microsoft's Stephen Elop's previous ' by the holidays' declaration for the US carrier.

Nokia India, the subsidiary of Microsoft Mobile, has sent out press invites for media event in New Delhi scheduled for October 1, 2014. While the invite does not specify the plans for the afternoon, from what we know, the Lumia 830 will be launched at the event. Again, there's no price indication and the rumors put the price to be anywhere from ₹21,000-30,000 (US$340-480). The Lumia 820 was priced at ₹26,000, and that could be a pretty good price point for this 'affordable flagship' phone, although I'll sheepishly confess that a higher price tag for the device wouldn't be a huge negative.

The built-in email client on Windows Phone gets the job for casual users, but for those looking for a brighter, more powerful experience, there have been few options. Maestro is a new email app for Windows Phone 8.1 and Hidden Pineapple makes it, the developers behind the favorite Rowi Twitter client years ago.

Today, after some delay, it is finally entering into a public preview. Users can now download and use the client, which supports Outlook and Gmail out the gate, including multiple accounts.

Dubbed as "A better mail experience for Windows Phone 8.1", Maestro looks to deliver aesthetically pleasing emails, but also more advanced inbox controls for the email addicts out there. Today's release is a 'preview' meaning the app itself is still far from complete, but the core of it is working enough to warrant letting you folks jump in an take it for a ride.

Earlier this year we took a look at UbiShow, a feature rich slideshow video creator for Windows Phone. The app offered an easy to use method of converting your still images into video slideshows from vacation, special events or any other situation where you need to share a collection of photos in video format.

The developer has been busy fine-tuning the app and has recently released an updated version that not only changes the app's name to Video Memories but also adds a host of new features to the mix. UbiShow was an appealing slideshow creator and the new features brought about with the updated version only adds to the app's appeal.
