After having spent some time on iOS and Android, the developers behind Get Water, Decode Global Studio, have finally made the game available on Windows Phone. If you're not familiar with the game, Get Water is the educational sidescrolling endless runner that aims to bring attention to the water scarcity in India and South Asia, and the effects it has on girls' education.

It tells the story of Maya, a girl who loves going to school and learning new things, but as the village's water pump is broken she keeps getting pulled out of school to get water for her family. The faster Maya can collect water, the faster she can get back to school to learn more.

In April, Nokia revealed their Lumia 930 and a few other bits, including their new MD-12 portable Bluetooth speaker. A few months went by and finally the MD-12 started hitting various shops, though it is still relatively difficult to find (even for myself). That is why I was surprised to find it sitting on Microsoft's online Store for $49 in green, yellow, white or orange (sold out) – news to me, at least.

Earlier this year when Verizon finally released the Lumia Icon, I gave the phone a solid review. However, one thing that always bothered me about Verizon's Lumia phones is their lack of color. For instance, the Icon comes only in white or black, but there is no red, which would seem like an obvious choice for the rosy-hued carrier.

Fast forward to mid-year and the Lumia 930 picks up some borderline neon green, and bright orange back covers. Is there a way to switch them to add color to your Lumia Icon? You bet, and you can find the answers in our forums.

Although web sites and reporters often spill the secrets of companies, the best-kept ones get published by the companies themselves. Case in point is the revelation that 'folders' are coming to Update 1 (aka GDR1) for Windows Phone 8.1, which was accidentally revealed by Microsoft's website. Details though have been scarce about the forthcoming update, including what it contains. Luckily, Microsoft's Dev Center is filling in the blanks as we reported yesterday.

On Microsoft's website, buried within the Dev Center are two pages dedicated to the minor OS update. One page is 'What's new in the documentation for Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1' and the other just 'Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1.' Now, details from those internal pages is starting to trickle out.

On Friday, Microsoft released their new Windows Phone Live Lock Screen app for Windows Phone 8.1. The app is still in the beta stages and offers a collection of lock screen styles that can be customized with your images, Bing's Image of the Day or you can opt for a solid color as the backdrop.

There was a slight build up to the release of this app and there's a discussion going on in the Windows Phone Central Forums asking if the app has lived up to the hype surrounding it's release.

WPCentral Forums member Crise feels the app so far is a disappointment citing the app is uninspiring designs and slowness. Keep in mind that this app is still a beta and Microsoft is still fine tuning things but based on the comments, several share Crise's point of view.

Windows Phone 8.1 is still in the early stages of rolling out to devices in over-the-air updates, but Microsoft is hard at work at future updates, including general distribution releases also known as GDRs. Those GDR updates, usually called just 'Update' or 'Update 2', bring patches, minor fixes, a few new features and enable additional hardware options for manufacturers (OEMs).

Evidently, references to GDR1 are found on the Windows Phone dev center under the OEM documentation. Unfortunately, if you try to click the links you are asked to log in, making this restricted to just OEM partners.

Last night after much anticipation, Microsoft released their first beta for the Live Lock Screen app on Windows Phone 8.1 (see our hands on video). The app is maintaining a 4.1 (out of 5) rating on the Store, though the biggest complaint by far is the delay when turning on the phone. The reason for that has to do with the Live Lock Screen being an actual app that runs and a few other complications that developer Rudy Huyn says he is diligently working on to improve.

Regardless, if you do not want to participate in the beta, or would like to sit a few rounds out to see if Live Lock Screen improves, then you can always uninstall the app. Case closed, back to normal, right? Not so much...

Although most people generally don't think of it when they go to unlock their cellphone for another carrier, the process of doing so in the U.S. has been a topic of much debate involving consumers, the House of Representatives, and even the President of the United States.

For those unfamiliar, service providers like AT&T and Verizon typically lock their devices so they can only be used with their service. If unlocked, phones can be taken over to other carriers. This is hugely important for promoting healthy competition and empowering consumer choice, not to mention being very useful for travel.

Verizon to put some limits on unlimited data

If you've managed to stay on an unlimited data plan on Verizon, you might soon notice that your speeds beginning to slow down if your using a lot of data . A limited set of customers will fall under the umbrella of Verizon's so-called "Network Optimization" policy, which Verizon says is not throttling.
