Today Windows Phone Central looked at a software tool called Automagical that allows developers to translate iOS and Mac source code to the language used by Windows Phone and Windows 8. Automagical developer Dawn of Play used that same tool to bring gorgeous reverse Tetris puzzle game Dream of Pixels to Windows Phone.

Now that we've gotten the word out about Automagical and Dream of Pixels, it's time for a contest! Dawn of Play has provided five $5 gift card codes for US Microsoft Accounts (including Xbox Live) for us to give away. All you have to do to enter is follow some Twitter and Twitch accounts and drop a comment on this article. The contest ends at midnight CST (-0600) tonight, so hurry to enter!

Earlier in the summer we reported on a strikingly lovely Windows Phone puzzle game called Dream of Pixels. The game comes from Slovenian developer Dawn of Play, who first joined the Windows Phone scene with Twinoo, another puzzle game for Windows Phone 7 and 8.

Like many developers, Dawn of Play started out creating games for iOS. Porting Dream of Pixels to Windows Phone 8 represented a new development challenge for the team. Their solution: create a development tool called Automagical that translates Objective-C (iOS) code to C# (Windows Phone 8) code. Automagical makes porting from iOS and Mac to Windows platforms much easier. Read on to find out more about what it does and how to get it.

Update It's looking like Microsoft is trying to do some back pedaling in regards to Crozier's statements today. ZDNet.fr has received a statement from Nicolas Petit, director of marketing and operations division of Microsoft France, who in the translated text stated, "We look forward to seeing you in late September, in San Francisco, for the future of Windows, which actually at this stage does not have a name as such."

Original story Alain Crozier, the President of Microsoft France, today became the first executive in the company to use the term "Windows 9" publicly to describe the next version of Windows.

Truth is, the overwhelming majority of you do like reading everything from Xbox to Surface to Windows news, reviews and articles. According to a tweet shared by Microsoft's Lawrence Schlosser, French consumers won't have much longer to wait before Cortana is available. The tweet by Schlosser, who is a Senior Director of Operator Channels at Microsoft France, notes that Cortana is on an accelerated pace and it should hit France "in the coming months". A familiar but somewhat reassuring expression these days for Microsoft fans.

Asphalt Overdrive from Gameloft is coming Thursday

During E3 this year, Gameloft announced the latest game in the Asphalt series of racers. Surprisingly, the next Asphalt won't be Asphalt 9. Instead, the series is spinning off in a new direction with Asphalt Overdrive. Instead of a serious arcade-style racer, the new Asphalt will be an endless racer – sort of like Gameloft's recently released Spider-Man Unlimited or Sega's Crazy Taxi City Rush.

Players who are wondering how well Asphalt works as an endless racer plays won't have to wait long to find out. Today Gameloft announced that Asphalt: Overdrive will be coming to Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and Windows 8 this Thursday, September 25! The publisher also released a new trailer to celebrate the news. Keep reading for both the trailer and gameplay details.
