Another week has gone by, which means it’s the perfect time to sit back and go over the big app news for the week. That’s right, it’s your favorite little column where we look at the big new apps that hit the Windows Phone Store. We’ll also look at any apps that received substantial updates, cool new betas, and a few games. Let’s jump in.
We are having a hard time putting our phones down after the latest version of Rail Rush became available this morning. It’s another endless-runner game, but we like that the latest update gets you in the Holiday mood.
We put it in front of our camera to show you how it looks on our Nokia Lumia 1520. Head past the break to watch the video.
Technically speaking, it’s been a slow week, mostly due to the hangover from last week’s holiday festivities. In reality though, you probably have noticed that developers have been busy tweaking and improving their apps. We’ve covered a bunch of ‘em but there are still more. Today, we know of two pretty big updates that are well worth your time.
Both Miniclip’s Rail Rush, a freebie and Nokia exclusive game, got a Christmas bonus and Huyn’s Snapchat client, 6snap, received a few new features as well. Here are the details.
We had expected the latest installment in the Angry Birds series of Windows Phone games, Angry Birds Go!, to land in the Store on December 11, 2013. However, many awoke this morning to find the title already listed in the Store as a non-Xbox Windows game.
Sadly though, it appears the game isn't completely ready for play.
All through this year, Disney has been upping the ante on Windows and Windows Phone. They’ve brought popular titles from other platforms, introduced new games, and offered great deals.
The company has now announced the Disney Infinity: Toy Box app that allows you to apply your imagination to a digital canvas. The app is also available for iPad. You can create your own worlds and games using favorite characters from popular Disney movies like ‘The Incredibles’, ‘Cars’, ‘Tangled’, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Monsters University’, and more.
Yesterday we told you gents and ladies about what’s probably going to be the deal of the year. This Monday, you can pick up the Dell Venue 8 Pro for just $99 from the Microsoft Store. That deal is good for the first 20 folks in physical Microsoft Stores in the United States or Canada. After that, the price goes up to $199. To celebrate, Microsoft has produced one of their most seductive ads yet. Turn down the lights, turn up the music, light some candles and watch it.
Windows 8.1 is the latest and greatest version of Microsoft’s cornerstone product. It’s notable for refining and building upon the ideas introduced in Windows 8. We’re also really excited because of the optimizations made in Windows 8.1 for tablet devices in the 7 to 8-inch range. Tablets like the Acer W3/W4 or Dell Venue 8 Pro. We’ve played with most of them, but we’re curious which one you own or plan to own.
Deutsche Bank is one of the largest financial and banking institutions in the world. The bank has over 2 trillion Euros in assets and handles the finances and banking needs of private, business, corporate and institutional clients. It’s a big bank that finally has proper apps for Windows Phone 8 users. That’s right, not one, but three apps are available from Deutsche Bank AG in the Windows Phone Store.

Car Starter is a dashboard companion app for Windows Phone 8 devices that puts essential apps and information at your fingertips. The app was updated to version 1.7, which optimizes the app for 1080p phones, adds a few new shortcuts, and adds a weather forecast feature as an in-app purchase.
The 1080p optimization has five main buttons instead of the four and four tiles running across the top of the app. Live Music Access and Metrotube apps have been added to the shortcut button lists. You also have French and Polish language support along with a few bug fixes and stability tweaks.

We love deals around these parts and we know you do too. While the Lumia 520 has been making all the headlines with its market share and low price, its T-Mobile brother, the Lumia 521, sits on the sideline. While the Lumia 521 has always been affordable, we haven’t seen it at the $69 price point just yet.
In just over a month, we’re heading back to CES, the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. But this year, we’re not just going…we’re going big!
The Mobile Nations family is once again teaming up with our friends at Geek Beat and together we're going to be putting on #CESLIVE. We have some awesome booth space in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where we'll be setup and streaming live during tradeshow floor hours throughout the week of CES. CES Live will complement our standard coverage with plenty of interviews and product demos live from our stage.
Traditionally, each of the Mobile Nations sites do their own thing, but this year we’re pulling together as a team. Or a dysfunctional family reunion. Which ever. The fact is, between us and Geek Beat (with John P and Cali Lewis), we’re going to show you the best of the best at CES, just like you were there. Granted, Windows Phone news tends to be a little slow, but if it’s there, we’ll bring it.
When it comes to third-party web browsers on Windows Phone, it’s hard to get excited about anything besides UC Browser. The app has not only been on Windows Phone since early 2012, but the team behind it is busy pumping out updates left and right.
Case in point, version 3.2 is now live in the Store and they just keep making it better and better. What’s new in version 3.2 and what’s coming in version 3.3? Read on to find out.
Just yesterday we reported on some forthcoming features in the popular messaging app WhatsApp. The new features, which include saving of videos to the device, were found in the private beta of the app. Soon after that article though, WhatsApp pushed out another update to version 2.11.322 and it now has the long coveted feature of attaching videos. We have verified that the new functionality is present.
The system for attaching videos is very basic. Users simply tap on the ‘Albums’ icon to browse their library of media, but instead of just photos, videos are now visible there as well. From that screen, users can just attach the video, which will then be auto-sent to the contact. It’s basic but it works and we imagine it will be refined a little over the next few betas. Limits for video size and length are currently not known.

The latest version also brings localization updates, wide tile support, and availability for Windows Phone 7.5 devices.

It's handy for documenting captured moments on the photo itself and sharing the photo with others. The UI is minimal with bold colors good-looking typography. The swiping gestures also feel like this app is made specifically for Windows Phone.
Tile Me! has received an update that makes its Twitter background creator even better. Version 184.108.40.206 responds to a couple of suggestions we had in theprevious version. The latest update adds more Windows Phone devices to display in the background and you are now asked for permission to post a tweet whenever you change your background. You can also now save the background to your phone or even share it from your device.
Don’t get Scroogled. Whether you’re considering using Gmail or buying a Chromebook, Microsoft doesn’t want you doing it.
