AT&T boosting its 3G network to 7.2Mb/s, plans LTE testing for 2010

We've been expecting AT&T to beef up its 3G network in the coming months, and now we have some details.

AT&T Mobility VP Scott McElroy says software updates will double the downstream speed to 7.2 megabits per second and are already being tested in two markets. The rest of the network is targeted for an upgrade thereafter.

But AT&T's looking past that and toward HSPA+, which will increase speeds to 21 Mb/s. And looking even further into the future, tests with the 4G LTE standard should begin sometime next year.

Acronyms and numbers aside, what does this all mean? Quite simply, be on the lookout for faster speeds on an AT&T network near you.

Hahahaha. Yes, let's ignore the new iPhone coming out in a few months, which will eat up all the network "boosting." It's going to be the same crappy ATT service as always.

Can't wait for the Touch Pro2 on Sprint, hopefully as a world phone.

Sprint? You've got to be kidding. They are the king of self-destruct.

People, the majority of you who are upset with "AT&T" shouldn't be. The fact is that it was probably some dumba$$ employee that pissed you off and they are most likely not with the company any more!
It's your fault for not knowing how to properly escalate your concerns to the 'right' person or agency!

AT&T is a leader in technological advances! If it wasn't for their network, and the billions and billions of dollars invested, you'd have nothing! Have PATIENCE!! New technology has bugs that need to be worked out!!!!! In the end, AT&T will emerge as the number one super carrier! There's something better in the works than the iPhone!!! ;-)
Also, check out AT&T's 'Hub' for your home phone!! Now that's cool!!!

what are you talking about one I dont like the iphone but I do love ATT. have you looked at a coverge map for sprint it gray most everywere interstate and mian hwy systems about a mile outside that and you got nothing I work with Att Sprint and Verizon and ATT and Verizon are about neck and neck when it comes to coverage ATT had much better phones AND with ATT if you get a smart phone you are not forced into getting the data plane like on Sprint and Verizon the storm sux BYW 9 out of 10 i have sold has been returned and the htc t pro with Sprint is no better another thing
when you upgrade on Sprint and Verizon the phone price will jump about $100.00 just becouse its an upgade and ur not a new cust with ATT the price stays the same and even more ATT is a GSM NETWORK you can use any unlocked phone with them add the internet setting so if you still not due for an upgrade you phone messes up go on ebay and get a good phone chep with Sprint and Verizon you have to buy the Phones in the store at full retail so even for the most basic phone your looking at $400.00 you cant even use a paygo phone to replace it I also like Tmobile but there coverage sux cool phones low prices good comp just bad coverage sorry Tmobile.
