AT&T's HTC 8X gets extra Accent color, less labeling

File this under good news. The AT&T HTC 8X actually has less labeling than we have come to expect from the carrier.

Our international HTC 8X has the 'HTC' label on the front with the Beats Audio logo on the back (also with and embossed HTC logo). We assumed that the AT&T variant would be like the AT&T Nokia Lumia 920--with a HTC and AT&T blazoned on the front--but as it turns out, the 8X is quite conservative.

AT&T's only logo is on the back with a small globe. In fact, HTC doesn't even get a front logo on the soon-to-be-released Windows Phone 8 device. Instead, we're getting a very clean and almost emblem-free experience. In addition, AT&T is putting on HTC's custom Accent color, which is simply called 'HTC'. In this case, the color matches the California Blue of the phone's exterior. Nice touch.

While not groundbreaking news by any means, it's a nice nod for those of you considering the HTC 8X on AT&T. Personally, we prefer our devices to not look like NASCAR got their hands on it.

Did the Gyroscope Fairy pay HTC a visit?  A free charger does not a Gyroscope make.

PASS.

NEXT.

WinFan1 says:

Why do people always ride my comment to the top ? ^_^

Meh. When does it go on sale?

sosadr says:

Okay, At&T you got busy with HTC, what about Nokia 920.  When is the release date?  This is getting stupid.

bjax says:

I agree. I've never seen anything like this before. A highly anticipated phone with no official pricing and date and that's even after wp8 was made official on Monday. What's the holdup? I'm surprised more websites don't have any articles addressing this major issue.

I'm sure all the tech websites are worried about a phone running an os with 4% market share.

Adiliyo says:

when the 920 is coming up ahead in a lot of consumer polls they should be interested in the development of it.

that said, if there's no news to report, there's nothing for them to write.

bjax says:

For me, an ATT customer, the news is that Verizon and T-Mobile have released dates and prices for the Nokia phones and ATT has not- and they have the hero phone.

sholokov says:

4% is 40,000 per Million people. Still a significant number.

Neusyn says:

4% of 165 million smart phone users in the US = 6.6 million people. I Think that's the current number of users could be wrong though.

bjax says:

Have you not seen all the coverage of the 920 on tech websites? Even normal doubters are talking about the phone, percentage share has nothing to do with it. News is news.

pookiewood says:

Yeah this is pissing me off! I wish some site would address this as well. If I liked Andoid or iOS I might have to take them up on the offers they gave me to stay.

zeke009 says:

If Sprint beats AT&T to a WP8 announcement they should be ashamed of themselves.

WinFan1 says:

I agree this wait is absolutely unacceptable. Atnt hurry the fuck up.

bjax says:

I'm really digging the 8x, but I'm dying to see 920 reviews. Not to mention official release date and price from Att.

Jazmac says:

I'm with you on the 8x. I'm close to passing on the 920 for the 8x. It really is making a statement.

aubreyq says:

It really is.

Adiliyo says:

ugh, these articles are all killing me! i want MY wp8 device already! :(

dgduris says:

AT&T, thanks for the early upgrade opportunity on an iPhone5. I'll take you up on it if you'll make it for an 8x or L920 instead.

Adiliyo says:

early upgrade should work for any phone you want, they just basically add $250 to the contract price, so if the 920 comes at 150 (or the 8x at 100) it'll be 400 and 350 respectively.

i'm debating on doing that or adding a line, they come out to about the same in the end (i have a dumbphone imei to swap it to) but i'd be paying less upfront if i add a line...

sholokov says:

iPhone deals are different on att. It's subsidized.

I want to switch to att for the 920 but if they throw me a shitty deposit, I'm going to stay with t-mobile and get the 8X. The more I see it, the more I'm liking it ;-)

JoeDizzle33 says:

I am pretty much sold on 920, but 8x is looking really good as well.

L0gic Bom8 says:

Go to agree with you there. But I'm a media nut, which was why I was hoping for the ATIV S to come to AT&T. No dice, so I'm going with Nokia.

It isn't??? I thought ativ s was coming to att and odyssey would come to Verizon?? Speculating here

sosadr says:

It is hard to jump to the 8X when Nokia is getting all the new apps first and it is likely to have any future updates to WP8 first as well.  I'm hoping BestBuy delivers and don't cancel my order. Still waiting...

VagrantWade says:

5 miles of bezel on top.

drg says:

the bezel may look more than it seems because of where the live tiles start but you can see the time on the top right and once you start scorlling the tiles you'll see the screen takes up more space than you think. or maybe you knew this and you think the bezel is still too much so fair enough.

VagrantWade says:

Well it's clearly a lot. Hence why it's a smaller screen while the same size.

vdubskey says:

I was on the edge about the 8x because of the long design and now with no HTC logo on the front it makes it even worse. I'll have to see these in person.

TechyMexican says:

many have already listed their HTC 8X on ebay :P so if you reeeeeealy want one, you could order one

ejlee072006 says:

Wow... HTC is the flavor of the month

willied says:

I actually like having HTC on the front. Glad there's no AT&T logo on the front, at least.

ShortStuff says:

Dam everytime I think I know what I want my mind ends up changing I want the Nokia920 mainly for the wireless charging and extra features. But the 8x's design is sweet!! Daniel can you guys do a 920 vs 8x phone fight to help me make up my mind :D

Jf.Vigor says:

Same issue. I think im leaning more to 920 for the memory. The 16gb on my titan is always full

God damnit Nokia, I WANT MY AT&T LUMIA 920 NOW!! I've waited long enough.

If only we had some kind of guarantee that HTC is going to support WP8 like Nokia.

lippidp says:

There's no guarantee either company will even be around in a year.

aubreyq says:

Oh, please. *eye roll*

WPSteve says:

Much better compared to Verizon's

ricardios says:

CNET gave this phone a good review surprisingly

Is it me or the 8X looks more sexier everytime you look at it??

VagrantWade says:

Still looks kind of like a toy to me. I want to like it but I just can't.

PhilR8 says:

Yep.  The "California Blue" color especially.

Yup. Its the cali blue color thats make the phone looks amazing!!! Wish 920 had this.. But there is this reddish/orange scheme that looks good too!!! WP8 devices stand out!!! Nice touch!!!

I'm very glad to see HTC taking Windows Phone seriously. But AT&T needs to get their s**t together!

You guys I ain't gonna lie the reason y AT&T did that is so when ur holding it people think u have a Nokia so u don't get made fun of for having copykat hardware thank u AT&T the Nokia wannabes are gonna love it :P lol jk im not a hater of any HTC just Samsung they suck can't even make a bluray player

In the meantime apple received the OK to sell the Ip5 in china. Way to go MS and NOKIA!
Do you think most folks would rather pre-order the IPhone 5 or buy a Nokia Phone? I hope whatever game your lawyers are playing pays off!  Got no one to blame but yourselves.  You just lost tons of pre order sales.

pulkit10 says:

Meh, makes it look a little odd to me. Don't seem to mind the HTC logo so much - just that hideous carrier logo makes the back look worse. It looked kind of nice before with that Beats Audio and standard product label at the back.

Also, I agree with the comments above. Why no information on availability? What's the point of guarding this like some sort of state secret. There is some real buzz going around for the product so just tell people when it is coming out. Uncertainty can be quite frustrating; a fact especially true when you are willing to spend $700 on that product. I'm seriously want the 920 but these idiotic deals that Nokia has made with carriers and the lack of information is frustrating to say the least.

KQ17 says:

So they made the front look better but the back much uglier? Idiots.

Pete C says:

I agree the back looks awful now. I'd rather have a small AT&T logo on the front than this.

cedarlog says:

the price of 8x will determine if im going for 920/820 or 8x

aubreyq says:

Same, here.

lubbalots says:

Oh tmo! Say something!!!

procen says:

Okay Obi one what do you want me to say to make you feel better? ATT is a shit carrier and I won't leave Tmobile. he he he

WinFan1 says:

I feel HTC is capitalizing on sales Nokia could be making . Good for HTC because Nokia and atnt are seriously fucking up dragging this shit into mid November.....

WinFan1 says:

Seriously starting to consider a black 8x......

schlubadub says:

Having the carrier logo on the back is consistent with all their products. My Telstra HD7 is the same (only HTC on the front, small carrier logo on the back at the bottom). They should've kept the beats logo down the bottom though, with the carrier logo next to it.

valapsp says:

The question is that will Lumia 920 come with white accent color?

sanien says:

Nah I'll skip it, I can get a Lumia 920 including a wireless charger and a 6 months contract for 538$ :-D But it is with a 50$ contract for 6 months... but I don't want a 2 year contract! Heck there is a Lumia 1000 in 6 months :-D

keizka says:

I'm actually blaming AT&T on this disturbing silence on Lumia 920. As we've seen devices have started rolling out elsewhere. Where are you, AT&T? Doubledealing?

I'm quite sure Nokia won't bring their next Hero device to AT&T with this bshit going on...

Firenze89 says:

This strategy might actually be the only way HTC is going to sell a few 8Xs. AT&T are expecting some impatient and curious buyers to settle on the 8X instead of the 920...
Maybe not Bshit after all.

Jojogill says:

I think this is a smart move on at&t's behalf.

Ethere says:

Yellow. Nokia Lumia 920. Done.

However it's good to see that there is less labeling on the phone.

Lasp24 says:

the color in the picture of the 8X, is that the color that Verizon is selling, along with the other colors? Cuz that is a nice blue color

danzinho16 says:

It's either a 8X or the 810 for T-Mobile.
I always liked Nokia, and they have those exclusive apps, soo .
HTC has a good camera, Beats, and screen resolution.
Hard choice.

OMG55 says:

Why is everyone here acting  as if they don't know what's going on with ATT and Verizon when it comes to windows phone. We should all know thier stretching out their iphone 5 sales prior to releasing wp. Basically their waiting until they see a slow down of people coming in to purchase the ip5 since it's their, "Bread & Butter". Their saying one thing and doing another....Everyone here has heard, "Many carriers are trying to ween themselves off of the iphone along with the high royalties they have to pay Apple". Well "Actions Speak Louder Than Words" and clearly their doing the opposite. As another member pointed out above, these units are shipping and on pre-order everywhere else, what's ATT & Verizon excuse? There is none, these are deliberate actions and it doesn't involve Nokia or MS not wanting to ship them already.

luv2skipow says:

Boycotting HTC after doing nothing about the poor call quality on the TITAN.

IamJonso says:

The HTC Titan was the worst phone for making phone calls that I have ever used! Maybe we're just old school and still use our phones to make calls, coz the call quality was just terrible and HTC did nothing about it.
