Bing Social Search Preview is now live for US residents

WP Central

Hey, look at that. We actually noticed it this morning but it didn't register in our sleepy heads, but Bing's Social Search "Preview" is now available for those luckily enough to reside in the US. No, we're not sure why it's only US but perhaps it's more of a rollout thing to work out the bugs and quirks.

Anyway, if you head on over to bing.com you can hit the "Preview" button and you'll see the new login near the upper right of the screen. You now have the option to login with your Live ID credentials (we lost all of our Bing reward points when we created a new ID) and you can also login with Facebook. No Twitter or G+ just yet which is a bit of a shame, well at least for the former.

We haven't see the new pane layout just yet but perhaps it's just us (we're not big Facebook users) Our new layout is now live including the social bar to the right. You can see more on Bing's Social Search features here on their new sub-site: http://social.discoverbing.com/.

Thanks, ArtSooby, for the tip

Um, hasn't this been working for a number of months already? I've been able to login with Facebook for ages and my friends 'Likes' are shown next to results - just like G+ +1... except Microsoft did it first.

but this time the social sidebar is active

No, the Social Search aspect is new e.g. the new layout. Ours just went live:

Kool but I have no Facebook account.

i'm not surprised it's US only as Bing is not even out of beta here in Belgium :( That wouldn't be so bad in itself since I try to use the US version but it makes it quite impossible to explain to other people why I bother using Bing instead of Google. The biggest problem for me is that the bing maps app on my phone has some trouble finding adresses here in Belgium (sometimes even when I copy the adress exactly form the pinpoint that pops up when you longpress on the screen) although I must admit that the situation has improved a lot over the last couple of months, it's still not very good.

Something related. Has anyone noticed that if you go to Bing through the mobile web browser there's now a category for signing in using your Facebook account? It doesn't seem to do much besides put your FB thumbnail in the corner but maybe it's a sign of new features to come.

That's the new part...

Anyone else use Chrome as their main browser?  I can't get Bing to connect to Facebook through Chrome.  Works fine in IE.  I click connect, it connects for a second, then disconnects.

TIPS: For all of you, who are not in the US (I'm canadian), just select the US country manually as your ciuntry (top right corner). You will be able to use the new UI :)

I am in Canada and use US Bing as well. The Canadian version is missing so many features (calculations, Bing rewards, conversions etc...)
