Block Unwanted Text with AT&T

Stalkees rejoice! It turns out we actually can block text messages with AT&T now. As in: "Oh, I'm sorry boss, I didn't get your SMS over the weekend. See, it's not on my phone. How weird. Snicker." While it's always been possible to block phone calls, blocking text messages has always been, well, impossible. Perhaps not impossible, but certainly there was no decent way to do it.

Now, if you have AT&T, you can simply log in, register, and within minutes start blocking and adjusting.

Cool new features include:

  • Block text messages sent as email (from email accounts)
  • Block all multimedia messages sent as email
  • Block all messages sent from mobile numbers
  • Block messages sent from specific email accounts or domains
  • Allow all messages sent from specific email accounts or domains

Now we have a little more control over what comes beeping in at 3am in the morning. I think a sprinkle of AT&T's SMS block and a pinch of Extreme Text could be the perfect mobile recipe.

Block Unwanted Text with AT&T

Funny, I just had that done over a month ago with at&t with no problem and I love it. You can still get texts from at&t for updates on minutes used, bill balance, etc and it still continues to block all other texting which is cool. I get too much junk text from friends even after I told them to stop, they do it just to bug me. I pay for data on both my wife and my phone with push email. Email me, don't text me. Its not that I am cheap but texting did add $15 to my bill because of the above which is a waiste when I don't care for texting and I can utilize my email for messaging which is under my already expensive data plan.

I'm an ATT (formerly Cingular) customer and I can tell you that the "block all messages sent from mobile numbers" is NOT an option. Maybe that was a feature when this was written but I just logged on today (1/11/09) and found the only options available were:

Block text messages sent as email (from email accounts)
Block all messages sent from mobile numbers
Block messages sent from specific email accounts or domains
Allow all messages sent from specific email accounts or domains

Too bad ATT decided to eliminate the "block all messages sent from mobile numbers" or won't even allow me to select which number(s) I want to block.

I don't text and don't have a text plan. It irks me that I have to pay for incoming texts (usually "wrong numbers"). Since nearly every cell phone comes text-able, and as long as phone companies charge for incoming calls, then the customer should have the ability to choose whom they receive (pay) texts from.

I was hoping it blocked text from individual mobile numbers also to stop certain calls but it doesn't. Sure be nice if they added that feature!

The text I most want to block comes from "Free AT&T" - a neverending stream of drivel about cool things I can get and by the way, in case I don't own a calendar, I should know that I can go online and look at my bill. I have all marketing preferences set off. I used to get some of this garbage on my email and some via text, but changed the email to none@noplace.com and now get all of it via text... AT&T seems smart enough to know that my email doesn't work, but too stupid (or likely indifferent) to realize I just don't want this s**t.

whos the dork up top that said he couldnt find block all messages from mobile numbers, and then says the only options available are block all messages from mobile numbers.......... are u a tard or what?

At&t does NOT have a way to block certain phone numbers from texting you. I am VERY dissatisfied about this!! I am being harassed by a phone number/text message and in fact, i'm losing sleep as it comes early in the morning and ATT doesn't have a way to stop this??? RIDICULOUS!

Verizon DOES, and its a very easy to do.

I WILL leave ATT over this. I pay a lot of money for my account and I can't manage what calls/texts I receive?

bullsh-t!

Goodbye ATT hello carrier that can give me what i want!
