Carphone Warehouse UK offering free Windows 8 Pro upgrade when buying a Lumia 820

In one of the more creative offerings we have seen to get people to buy new Windows Phone 8 handsets, we like this one from Carphone Warehouse.  By simply purchasing a Nokia Lumia 820 you qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 8 Pro on your PC. (Unfortunately, Phones4U have an exclusive on the 920).That reinforces the notion that Microsoft (and their partners) are really pushing the idea that the desktop OS and phone are companions.

Fans of Microsoft's mobile OS for years have clamored for such a marketing campaign and now it looks to finally be happening. Thanks, Louis B, for the photo!

Nice. I just wish EE didn't have the exclusive of the 920.

rockstarzzz says:

Do we know if those wireless plates are still going free or not on any of the UK retailers?

I bought a SIM free Lumia 820 from Carphone Warehouse yesterday. Free charging plate. Was in stock and comes with the phone at point of sale. Windows 8 Pro is via redemption - sticker on the front of the box.

nsp24 says:

I dont appear to have the redemption  sticker on the front of the box. Does it have a code on it?

Oseph says:

I half expected Microsoft to announce this as a universal promotion for adopters of WP8, much cheaper than the Xbox they were giving away last time.

welsbloke says:

I popped into a Carphone Warehouse over the weekend specifically looking to see the WP8 phones. I must of missed this deal.
I did however take some photos with the 820 in store against its older siblings (800 and 900) and the difference was striking, even more so when I consider it is the 920 that have the Pure View system. the 820 took amazing photos compared to the washed out 800 and 900 photos.

My Daughter got an 820 from carphone warehouse on Friday. she got a free wireless charging plate and in 14 days she can register for the free windows 8 upgrade. I love the 820 windows phone 8 look great makes my l900 feel old. I wish Nokia would do some kind of trade in deal for l900 owners.

psteve2005 says:

Has anyone else got shutter lag on their Lumia 820? Mine has lag between pressing the capture key/touching the screen and the shot actually being taken. I've raised this via Nokia Support Discussions.

psteve2005 says:

The wireless charging is excellent though is will say. And the phone great in the hand, if a little slippery (black version).

Microsoft should be doing this themselves for a limited time. Get people to buy into the brand NOW.

Saljen says:

If Microsoft were smart they would make this offer for every single Windows Phone 8 device sold. It would only "cost" them ~$40 per device and you would so deeply engrain your customers in 'Metro' that they could never go back.
