Both Tumblr and NBC News updated, anything new?

During the past month, both NBC News and Tumblr were two examples of official apps hitting the Windows Phone Store for the first time. We’d had a handful of others, like Fidelity and GoComics, join the fray recently. Apps joining the Windows Phone ecosystem are just one sign of the how well the platform is doing. Another sign is how frequently those apps get updated. The forecast? Sunny with a chance of tiles since both NBC News and Tumblr have been updated. Let’s see what’s new.

Refocus is one of the cooler Windows Phone 8 camera apps we've run across. The camera app operates very similar to the Lytro Cameras or the Pelican Imaging that Nokia is investing in that allows you to choose the focal point after you capture the image.

Refocus lets you shoot now and focus later by capturing a RFI image file (SPEFO Stellar Spectra Analysis file) that can be manipulated to shift the focus point. When you get things just right, the image file is saved in .JPEG format. While we are a little shaky on the science behind Refocus, it's an awesome camera app that is a must have for all the Shutterbugs in the crowd (or anyone else who likes to take photos for that matter).

Your calls have been answered, well sorta. Microsoft today announced that a new, recently redesigned Facebook app (beta) for Windows Phone 8 is now available for you to try out and provide feedback. Yes, you can go and download it right now.

The app features “…new support for high-res photos, post sharing, and Facebook Timeline”, which should go a long way in making users happy--though being beta means it won’t be 100% stable, solid nor feature complete, so take it with caution.

Nokia has rolled out an update for its Lumia Storage Check Beta app. This app, exclusively available for Nokia Windows Phones, enables consumers to monitor exactly what's being stored on internal memory - something we believe Microsoft should have baked into the OS itself. So what's new in this latest release?

Back a few weeks ago, we brought you the news on Chronos Calendar, a powerful and sharp looking Windows Phone calendar replacement that actually hooked into your Outlook.com account. While we rather enjoy that app a lot, many of you shrieked at the design noting it wasn’t “Metro” enough.

Well, we think we have something for you vocal bunch: True Calendar 8. Yes, it’s a rather powerful calendar replacement that also hooks into your Outlook/Hotmail account so that you can directly add appointments and sync your other imported calendars.

If you missed the ‘Red Stripe’ deal a few weeks ago for Runtastic Pro (it was on sale for $.99, down from its normal $4.99), well, you missed a great offer for an impressive service for fitness buffs. The app recently went full Windows Phone 8 on us, bringing a host of new features and a slight redesign. Personally, we’ve been using it with the physical heart rate monitor and have been having a blast.

Even if you don’t run, it has general fitness features too, including weights, skiing, swimming and more. If you use Fitbit and or MyFitnessPal, it can easily link up to both services, giving you a comprehensive overview of your activity level and calories expended.

Pic Stitch is a new Windows Phone 8 photography app that has seen a bit of success over on iOS. It is part photo editor, part collage maker, and part photo sharing app. It caught the eye of Microsoft's Joe Belfiore and we have to admit, it does make a nice first impression.

You've noticed we cover system app updates regularly here with manufacturers releasing updates that alter specific features on a particular Windows Phone. It can be difficult to keep up with the number of system apps Nokia updates with its Lumia family of products. Cue LUMIA pusher, which will enable you to check to see if you have the latest versions.

GroupMe is a popular service from Microsoft, enabling consumers to connect with others using groups (hence the name). It's an app that enables consumers to transfer photos, while making use of both push and SMS for messages.

We've been notified of yet another update for GroupMe on Windows Phone. Version 4.4, which has been published to the store and should be live within the next 24 hours, introduces a number of new additions to the experience. The app was only updated to version 4.3 back in February and included numerous features consumers were crying out for. So what's new in this latest release?

A little while ago we mentioned the AT&T Digital Life app that allows you to control various aspects of your home from your Windows Phone. With the service you can control everything from locking/unlocking your front door to turning on the lights to monitoring your security system.  The problem back in March, when the app first appeared, was that the Digital Life service wasn't available.

Today AT&T announced that the Digital Life service has launched in fifteen U.S. Markets including Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Riverside, Calif., San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis and select areas of the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. AT&T plans to introduce Digital Life in up to 50 markets by the end of 2013.
