HTC's next smartphone might surprise us with some high-powered specs. In a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, HTC says that they will have the world's first octa-core 64-bit smartphone. The current HTC flagship, the One M8 (available in both Android and Windows Phone flavors) packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 32-bit chip with a measly four cores clocked at 2.3Ghz. An eight-core 64-bit chip? That would be new.

The Lumia 520 is going to go down as the phone that drove Windows Phone in emerging markets and for those who want a budget phone. Therefore, it should be no surprise to see Microsoft pick up Nokia's reins with the Lumia 530, which is just now launching globally.

I managed to get my hands on a brand new bright green Lumia 530 and in the following video, I talk about the features, specs and my first impressions. As it turns out, it very much reminds me of the Lumia 620 in terms of design, and the OS is surprisingly zippy considering the price range for this phone.

Update: We have gotten a number of other tips indicating the Cyan update is now being rolled out for the Lumia 920 in other parts of the world, including India, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and the UAE.

For more than a year now the Windows Phone landscape has been has been littered with Nokia devices. Lumia has ruled all, and rightfully so, as the the likes of HTC and Samsung largely relegated Windows Phone to second-tier status in favor of Android.

That changes today, as HTC has unveiled a Windows Phone 8.1 version of its 2014 flagship smartphone, the HTC One M8.

Ahead of HTC's press event in New York City on Tuesday, at least one Verizon Wireless retail store is getting ready for the launch of the Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 with a store display that will also be going live tomorrow.

An email from a WPCentral reader included the image, which he told us was for a Verizon Wireless store display somewhere in Virgina that will be put in place on Tuesday. In a rather interesting development, the display notes that the phone is available both for Windows and Android.
