Rumors

Back in April, Windows Phone Central reported that Windows Phone 8.1 is scheduled to receive two OS updates in 2014, with one in July and another in November. Previously known as general distribution releases (GDR), the updates bring some new features, optimizations, and bug fixes to those with Windows Phone. Neowin is reporting that Update 1 is nearing completion by the Consumer Experience (CXE) team, and they may wrap in the next week. If accurate, Update 1 looks to be on schedule.

Once the Windows Phone program managers clear Update 1, the bits are pushed to Microsoft's OEM and carrier partners for further testing. An expected public release with carrier/OEM support is still a few months out, especially since the original Windows Phone 8.1 update has yet to be delivered to most users. However, like previous GDR updates, those enrolled in the Preview for Developers program are setup to get the update early, possibly within weeks.

BLU Products recently announced support for Windows Phone, including at least two devices due in the coming months. It should therefore not be surprising that BLU and Microsoft plan to sell the devices direct through the Store, including possibly physical locations.

One of the phones, reportedly the Dash 5.0 features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854, a 1.3 GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, dual-SIM support and comes in a variety of bright colors. Windows Phone Central has now learned that the second phone has a 4-inch display, which suggests that it is a BLU's Dash 4.0 design. The Dash 4.0 model features a 480 x 800 display, 4 GB of storage, a 5 MP rear camera, dual-core 1.3 GHz CPU and a 1500 mAh battery.

The Lumia 1525 from Microsoft was leaked only yesterday by @evleaks, but the notorious leakster isn't finished with this rumored handset. Today, it's reported that not only will the Windows Phone be available through T-Mobile US, but it won't be carrier exclusive meaning consumers on both AT&T and Verizon may be able to get their hands on the device – as well as those who reside outside the US.

Since it'll be available alongside the Lumia 1520 in places, the Lumia 1525 is said to have some notable upgrades over its sibling, including the new Snapdragon 801 SoC (system on a chip).

File this one under rumor, with little else to go on, but @evleaks is reporting that T-Mobile is getting the Lumia 1525.

What is the Lumia 1525? That's a good question but no details were given in the diminutive tweet. It should seem obvious at this point that a 1525 would be a variant of the 6-inch 1080P Lumia 1520 that has been on the market for months now.

Ever since the Surface Pro 3 announcement, the future of the Surface Pro 2 was in question. Would Microsoft continue to sell both or focus on their new redesigned Surface Pro 3, and what about Surface 2? The story is coming into focus a bit as it looks like Microsoft is putting the Surface Pro 2 out to pasture.

Windows Phone Central has learned through various Microsoft Stores that all or most stock of the Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 2 accessories are being sent back to Microsoft. A few stores are keeping units on hand for customer issues, should any arise, but many stores now have zero stock with no plans to carry it any longer. It is not clear if other retailers are following suit or if Microsoft is mandating this only for their own stores.

It's expected that Microsoft will release a number of Windows Phones this year (as well as X), but we could be looking at a Lumia 820 replacement to bolster its mid-range offering. Photos have been published on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo, showing off an unannounced Lumia device which WPDang believes to be the Lumia 830. We're not sure how real (or fake) these images are, but the pictured smartphone appears to sport an aluminum frame with a polycarbonate rear, much like the Lumia 930, and it looks pretty snazzy.

It's the weekend, which makes it the perfect time for rumors to drop about Microsoft's plans for in the wearable space. Today a rumor is making the rounds that Microsoft's smartwatch will come this October with eleven sensors, open APIs and more — and competing smack in the middle of the first wave of Android Wear devices — including the Moto 360, and possibly Apple's long-rumored iWatch.

Fly (www.fly-phone.com) is a smartphone company based out of London, who makes a range of phones, smartphones and tablets for various markets including Russia, Ukraine, India, Southern Europe and the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States of the former Soviet Union). Those devices are almost always Android based, but with the recent loosening of restrictions around the Windows Phone hardware requirements and reference design, more manufacturers are supporting Windows Phone. Back in March, Microsoft added nine new hardware partners to its roster, and since that time the number has grown.

If you were expecting Microsoft to unveil something more substantial than just games on E3 2014, especially when Sony was showing off new tech demos for its Project Morpheus virtual reality visor, well, you must have been disappointed. Brace yourself then, for this rumor is going to disappoint more.

From last year's leaked patent, we learned that Microsoft has been brewing a new peripheral for Xbox One: an augmented reality spectacle codenamed "Project Fortaleza." However, things have been eerily quiet on that front ever since that initial leak. Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of such technology, and there is no update even from rumor mills. Now citing insider sources, Chinese site WPDang is reporting that Microsoft has "temporarily canceled" the device.

Over at the site @evleaks, a report about Nokia's (now Microsoft's) smartphone road map for 2014 has been teased with some device names like 'McLaren,' 'Rock,' 'Tesla' and 'Superman.' While 'Rock' is reported to be an entry-level Lumia 530 for T-Mobile and cricket, 'Tesla' and 'Superman' are described as mid-range devices for AT&T and Verizon, though no specifics are given. The Verge has previously described 'Superman' though as having a 4.7 inch display and a massive 5 MP front-facing camera.

I can add to the story quite a bit, specifically some details around 'McLaren.' But first, I should mention that AT&T is slated to get the new green Lumia 1520 sometime in late June or July as part of the Windows Phone 8.1 launch. I don't know if it'll be 32 GB internal or 16 GB, but with micro SD expansion, the ability to install apps and games to the card and 128 GB support, it doesn't matter anymore.

Again it's time to get the rumor mill running. According to Indian tech site BGR India, Microsoft (or Nokia, it's the same thing now) is set to release the successor to Nokia X, the entry-level Android smartphone that sparkled much controversy just a few months ago. The Nokia X2 will reportedly sport a 4.3" WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage.

Windows Phone 8.1 is the massive OS update from Microsoft. Lumia Cyan is the corresponding firmware from Nokia, customized for individual hardware. The two go together and are part of the official over-the-air update expected later in July and rollout through August.

Popular internet leaker @Evleaks has posted what looks to be a schedule of the Lumia Cyan update, broken down by device e.g. Lumia 920 and Lumia 1520. However, this is only for the Benelux region, which is comprised of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
