Windows Phones

Yesterday was both an exciting and frustrating day for Lumia 1520 owners on AT&T. On the one hand, the highly anticipated Lumia Cyan update was released, enabling many new features and tweaks. However, many users, including ourselves, quickly found out that we could not get the update unless we rolled back to Windows Phone 8.0. This update situation is not going to be a permanent problem as we do expect Microsoft to release an update to the Preview for Developers.

Regardless of these hiccups, we figured we would recap what is and what is not new on the Lumia 1520 with Lumia Cyan.

Update: The post on the Nokia Canada Twitter page has now been pulled, so it looks like the release of Lumia Cyan for the 1020 might not have happened after all.

Original story: The official Nokia Canada Twitter account has revealed owners of the Lumia 1020 in the Great White North should be able to download the Lumia Cyan firmware update that contains Windows Phone 8.1.

We go hands-on with AT&T's Nokia Lumia 635

Less than 24 hours ago, AT&T has announced that they are selling the Nokia Lumia 635. Tonight, we got our hands on the device during their Holiday showcase in New York City. It features a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 5-megapixel camera, 8 GB internal storage expandable up to 128 GB with micro SD, and 512 MB of RAM.

We asked an AT&T representative to tell us their Nokia Lumia 635 story. Head past the break to watch the video.

We're not sure when this feature was added, but Cortana can now do impressions. Simply ask Cortana to "do an impression," or "do an impersonation" and listen to some of her responses. There are not many impressions right now, but definitely try it on your device with Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers. We've tried it on our Nokia Lumia Icon. Head past the break to watch our hands-on video.

Last week, T-Mobile US and Microsoft began selling the Nokia Lumia 635, the speedy brother of the budget Lumia 630 with 4G LTE. The Lumia 635 is replacing the older (and cheaper) Lumia 521, which is one of T-Mobile's best selling Windows Phones to date.

Announced last week, the Lumia 635 runs for $0 down + $7 per month for 24 months ($168) with a postpaid Simple Choice plan on T-Mobile. Alternatively, it is also soon available on MetroPCS for a flat-rate of $99 prepaid. The Lumia 635 comes in white although people can optionally purchase shells to change the color to bright green, bright orange or yellow.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 may be ending sales in a few months, but that doesn't stop Microsoft from featuring the imaging powerhouse in their latest video. The main message in the video is that you can take great photos, access them from your favorite devices, and share them with the people who matter most. In addition to the 41-megapixel cameraphone, Microsoft also features OneDrive and Instagram.
