Nokia Lumia 930 announced!

As expected, Microsoft and Nokia announced the Lumia 930 at Build 2014 today. The specs are basically in line with Verizon's Icon: a 5-inch 1080p display, 20 megapixel PureView camera, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, Qi wireless charging and a 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor. The bigger deal here is international availability.

It goes on sale in June starting in Europe, then on to Asia, Middle East and India for $US 599 before subsidies and taxes, if you're eager to snag one.

With the release of Nokia’s Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320, many fans of Windows Phone have made the leap to a bigger phone than they’ve ever really had the opportunity to have. And while the adoption of these phablets has without a doubt brought many benefits to their new proud owners, it is also likely that the process is not without its challenges and adjustments.

Despite its steady rise in market share, and even surpassing Blackberry as the number three mobile ecosystem in the U.S., Windows Phone is still facing an uphill climb in the consumer smartphone arena. However, according to IBM, interest in Windows Phone is growing much faster amongst its enterprise customers than it is with consumers.

In an interview with RedmondMag, Jim Szafranski, senior VP of customer platform services at IBM's Fiberlink unit, said that many of his enterprise customers would prefer to use Windows Phone in their environments. The main reason, he says, is consistency. Microsoft dominates in the business infrastructure world, be it with Windows, Active Directory, Exchange, Dynamics, or Office.

Delta Airlines has been working closely with Microsoft in the past year both to help streamline customer service and save fuel. They first rolled out Nokia Lumia 820 Windows Phones to flight attendants for taking in-flight payments, and then a month later, replaced pilots’ heavy flight bags with Microsoft Surface 2 tablets.

Now, Delta has decided to upgrade its arsenal of Lumia 820 devices to Nokia Lumia 1520 phablets in order to increase the functionality of in-flight staff.

Yesterday, I finally picked up my matte white/silver Lumia Icon from Verizon. Nokia wanted back the review device, so I had to decide if I wanted the Icon on my Verizon account. Of course I did, it’s a great phone.

In playing with the white/silver version, which in my opinion looks much better than the all black one, I can’t help but notice how much it borrows from the Surface 2 design language. Let me be clear here: I’m not saying this is the oft rumored ‘Surface Phone’ from Microsoft. Or that Nokia worked with Microsoft in any way on this device. That’s not true at all.

Big screen with an affordable price makes the Nokia Lumia 1320 really interesting. It’s not going to match the specs of the Lumia 1520, but that’s exactly the point. If the Lumia 1320 device hasn’t been on your radar yet, maybe Nokia’s latest video might get you interested. It doesn’t really show what the phone can do in detail, but we think the video is very cool, nonetheless. Go watch it after the break.
