Folders for Windows Phone version 1 released (Homebrew)

WP Central

Windows Phone Hacker has published an announcement on the blog detailing the version 1.0 release of Folders for Windows Phone, a homebrew app that enables users to create folders for apps, and more. We previously looked at the app while it was in development, starting off as a concept that took off with community interest.

Some notable changes in version 1.0:

  • Bug fixes / UI changes
  • One application for all - enable root privileges for application selection, otherwise Marketplace searching will be used
  • Added tilt effect in folders
  • Pin folders to your start menu (root only - experimental)

Check out the video below for a quick introduction. You can download Folder for Windows Phone from the Windows Phone Hacker website.

Could be coming to Nokia phones, possibly even all WP. Not set in stone, but it is something that is being tossed around, I hear.

Yes, it was asked in the NOkia questionairre feedback program they were doing...hiopefully it does come out..

Like Las Vegas said, he is legit.  I got my focus S developer unlocked through his method and also was able to get the older version of Folders that he developed on my phone which worked great.

I had no issues with his unlocking method or apps...

I wish they would come out with an official app  since my lumia is not developer unlocked

Neat. I wish it was more like folders on other platforms though and just opened an overlay on the start screen instead of going into its own little application shell.
Also, being able to do live tiles in the folders instead of the hard link to the app would be wonderful.

Hey i wanna find out how to get gamefly to make an app like start a petition does anyone know what i have to do to go about it? please inbox me with some info i think windows phone should have an app considering gaming is supposed to be one of its main selling points :P

If implemented properly, something like this could work.  I think Microsoft will do it this year.  It should be interesting to see what they cook up this fall.

Disorganised operating systems like android and ios need folders to function.

Windows Phone does not, when you can jump into the app list and find anything by alphabetical order. I've never missed the folders on my iPhone, and hope that I never see them officially supported by Windows Phone as it's just a sign of being bloated and disorganised.

this folder thing is SO UGLY that it deserves to be installed in android!!!!!!!!!!! it's an insult to WP eyes!!!!
