The Xbox Deal of the Week slashes UNO's price to a dollar

Last week’s Xbox Deal of the Week was a repeat sale on the less-than-impressive Windows Phone port of Earthworm Jim from Gameloft. This week, I’ve got both some Aladeen news and some Aladeen news to share with you. First, the Aladeen news: we’re getting another repeat deal on another so-so Gameloft game – UNO HD. Now the Aladeen news: it’s going on sale for just 99 cents, down from $4.99, making this a much better deal than last time.

UNO HD, which we’ll now just call UNO since it’s not particularly high definition, was a WP7 launch title. As such, it lacks online multiplayer, an essential feature for an extremely simple and multiplayer-oriented game like UNO. But this version does offer a single-player Tournament mode that lasts 15 rounds, often mixing up the gameplay with slight rule variations, as well as a Quick Play mode. Those modes won’t last you too terribly long, but heck, the game is only a dollar right now. UNO’s regular price of $4.99 is simply madness though. For more impressions, check out our original review.

UNO HDOn the positive side, UNO does have a good, clean touch interface, making it easy to pick up and play. But the real reason for buying it is the game’s Achievement difficulty. Put simply, UNO’s Achievements are some of the quickest and easiest to get on Windows Phone 7. You only need to complete Tournament Mode and then run through three rounds in Quick Play and you’ll have the full 200 GamerScore. According to this handy Achievement Guide, that takes between one and two hours in total.

UNO will be on sale for 99 cents starting Wednesday, November 14 for one week only. It should run without issue on both WP7 and WP8 handsets. Get it here on the Windows Phone Store. Note: sometimes the DOTW takes a while to drop its price. Just be patient and you'll eventually see the price change.

Sonic’s almost here

Another tidbit: This week’s new Xbox Windows Phone release, Sonic CD will cost $4.99. We’ll let you know when it becomes available.

The Xbox Deal of the Week slashes UNO's price to a dollar

Wow $5 originally?! If that included online multiplayer then it could be justified... but otherwise no higher than $1.99

If i'm reading things right, this doesn't even have pass and play. I could be wrong (I'd grab it if it did) but for playing single player card games, i'd rather play solitaire.

Been waiting forever for Sonic CD, being a huge Sonic fan I'll definitely be buying it right away, and since the dotw is such a deal and has easy achievements I think I'll give Uno a go too.

Never understood all the hate for the WP port of Earthworm Jim. Perhaps I'm just blinded by the nostalgia of having played the original as a kid when it first came out, but I quite enjoyed the WP port. Sure, it had some things I could nitpick at, like the less-than-ideal controls (which you do eventually grow accustomed to), and the framerate wasn't great, but overall I was glad I paid the $3 I did for it. As for achievements, the announcement for the DotW warned achievement hunters of the difficulty completing EJ and getting all 200/200 GS on it, but I did it in three days pretty easily. I even managed to snag the "don't die a single time and beat the game" as well as the "beat the game on hard difficulty" achievements at the same time without having to exploit the reset trick. If anyone is on the edge and was perhaps considering snatching it up before it returns to full price in the next few hours I recommend it!

Main problem for me is the control system. I don't think these kinda games work on a touch screen only device, it's just too uncomfortable.

Paragraph breaks, Snarky!

I'm glad you finished EWJ. The final level is just horrible in the WP7 version since you can't see much of anything below Jim while falling. I do want to go back and get the no death Achievement sometime though.

I've actually had to switch to the plain text editor cause my paragraph breaks were as easy.

1$ for uno isn't bad, but I'd prefer MP.

Sorry, no idea why that happened. It looked just fine on the app when I wrote it. Anyways, if you really want the cheevo, you can exploit the reset trick where everytime you die you simply hit the Windows button and relaunch the app from the Games tab. It means you have to clear each level in one life, but at the very least you dont need to complete the entire game without dying.

I like Earth Worm Jim. Takes a while to get used to the controls, but you eventually get the hang of it.

I remember playing gameloft''s uno on blackberry playbook, and the computer kept cheating it was annoying, not worht a dollar if the they didn't fix that since :/

Still £4 in UK and it's 1:325, though this isn't the first time delays like this have happened, so I'm not getting impatient.

I thought MS did everything based on Seattle time? The guy that pushes the button isn't even out of bed yet. Hope it wasn't Sinofsky

I think WPCentral has been trying to get the scoop on things way too much. Try being right before you try being first. There have been a string of articles lately that weren't vetted and really belonged in a rumor forum more than they did as actual news on the front page of a web site.
It is really annoying to see an aricle like this and the change not having taken effect. By the time it does go into effect, I may very well have forgotten about it. If anything at least make a true statement in the article title like, "The Next Xbox Deal of the Week will be UNO for $1." Just don't make me think it has already gone into effect.

Did you read the article? It clearly talks about the deal in future tense, not present. As for posting the article before the deal goes live, we do that because people like to know the DOTW in advance. It's more newsworthy when posted early since you can just find the deal yourself once it's already gone live. Anyway, once the deal is actually live, you can be sure people will comment about it here and in the forums.
