Alcatel One Touch View Video: Meet Ricky he’s a graphic designer

We reported a few days ago on Alcatel’s entry into the Windows Phone space with their One Touch View smartphone. The budget friendly device will have a four inch display with front and rear facing cameras.

The handset will run the last version of the Windows Phone operating system, 7.5 and provide a solid spec for a very reasonable price but how will it be marketed? Today we see a video where Ricky tells us of his hopes and dreams. Step inside..

The video takes a fairly standard approach to the concept of selling Windows Phone as an OS, explaining a little of the live tiles and showing off the dynamic transitions. The video is really winning in places, we especially like hearing about Ricky and hes awesome bro and how he loves his job as a graphic designer. He looks stoked. But the message is clear, get a more personal view of your world with Windows Phone and the new Alcatel One Touch View.

Alcatel One Touch View Video: Meet Ricky he’s a graphic designer
USB Connector at the top: Check!

Here are the full specs:

  • Network: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
  • Operating System: Windows Phone 7.5
  • Processor: Qualcomm MSM7227A 1 GHz
  • Memory: 512 MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, there is no expansion slot
  • Screen: capacitive IPS, 4.0 ", 800x480 pixels
  • Camera: 5 MP with autofocus, single flash, 720p video 30 fps. Front camera VGA
  • Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (A2DP), GPS
  • Dining: Removable 1500 mAh battery
  • Dimensions, weight: 124.2 x 64.2 x 10.75 mm
  • Recommended price in Russia: 6990 rubles

We’re really rooting for Ricky, we hope he finds his way to becoming a famous artist and gets to travel the world. The promo video is odd in that it doesn’t show much of the phone itself until the end or demo how it actually works. It does show off those nice colour schemes though at the end and the device does look rather nice.

Oh no, Ricky is poor... :-(

Bnlf says:

hahahaha! perfect

inteller says:

so poor Ricky blatantly ripped off the Microsoft advertising department.

robert brand says:

It is not a good start to him becoming a famous artist is it? :) RB

RogueCode says:

Pretty much the worst ad ever.

joshcsmith13 says:

I really am glad to see your comments here.  I was actually a little worried as I read the article, but now it's all good.  Nice one.  :)

chilero says:

Not well done at all.  It actually embarrased me as a WP user.

aubreyq says:

It was a HORRIBLE ad. My goodness.

buggyglint says:

Ricky seems a little slow... this device is fitting for him.

Gergolos says:

I love how he wears the hipster-nerd-glasses right at the moment where you can hear him say "i'm a graphic designer and I LOOVE my job!"...man...I would love to say that that's just a cliché but have to admit that at least 1/4 of my fellow students at design school indeed are pretty standard hipsters...

But in fact...after giving it a thought: I could imagine all the hipster designers being happy with their red, yellow, whit nokias haha :)

TonyDedrick says:

Kinda corny. Would have been nice to actually show the functions of the phone.

I can get why they didn't want to show the phone in the advert (ugly as sin), but still, it didn't need to be this bad. First thoughts are that it's like a Bulgarian version of an 80s US sitcom.

inteller says:

Actually, it is like a Bulgarian version of the Jessica Alba and Gwen Stefani Microsoft WP ads....because it is.

uopjo6 says:

Needs some serious BGM taste more than the graphical taste.

CheekyTaurus says:

The entire ad premise is a fallacy. Everyone knows Ricky would never use a Windows Phone because he's a hipster douche, and hipster douches only use phones that have an Instagram app.

Mike-Mike says:

this cracked me up

Vheissu says:

I think that Tom Warren's tweet summed up this ad perfectly.
"This is the world's worst smartphone ad ever. I was mortified when I realised it was Windows Phone related"

Gaichuke says:

It's ironic how the graphic designers of this ad about Ricky the graphic designer use Windows Phone design language wrong with those pseudo Live Tiles.

At least they eventually showed the phone in the ad though.

wpguy says:

Ricky... small tip: lose the "y" when you're ready to move up out of the entry level position.

I actually kind of like the look of the phone, but the specs are worse than my US-launch-day HD7.

It was lot Ricky than one touch view in the advertisement

jcagga says:

Hi I'm Ricky. I hate using camera shutter button on my phone. So this is why I pin that app to my start screen.

m0scs says:

All I can say is CRINGE!!

Dave Blake says:

Hers hoping they are still working on that. That video leaves a lot to be desired.

Back me the photo button.

blackprince says:

How does this phone not have a shutter button? I thought that was standard fare for a WP. As for the ad, well Ricky all I can say is good luck out there, famous artist, pffft.

cdbstl76 says:

That is absolutely cheesy!

willied says:

Ricky seems a little bit "special" to say the least.

ramrac says:

No surprise there, just like the Alcatel One Touch Easy was probably the worst phone of it's time, this just repeats Alcatels history of failure.

cyber_k9 says:

Pretty bad, but actually better than the HORRIBLE ads promoting Windows Phone that Rogers has shown here in Canada (which pretty much comes down to a mock "reveal" of Windows 8 & WP8 devices, and their "loser" being inexplicably in the audience, allowed access to a microphone, and saying "but I'm not with Rogers!", and being given aghast looks. So frustrating. Doesn't tell us anything about the phone itself - and no Rogers store I've been in has had a working phone to test with either).

At least this ad, while poor, relates a "personal view" to the phone itself and hints at the functionality beneath.

[/rant] ;^)

Binson#WP says:

And they call it "Windows 8 Mobile".  Epic fail.

blackprince says:

Ugh thats the worst part of that commercial for me. Who cares about the lack of features not being shown just get the name right.

bpcooper14 says:

I don't see why anyone would release a windows phone that ISNT WP8 right now.

I could crap a better ad
