Need a reminder? Note+ jump to Windows Phone 8 with new dictation option

Note+ Windows Phone 8

Note+ is a simple note taking app for your Windows Phone for jotting down quick reminders while on the run. The app was recently updated to support Windows Phone 8 and along the way picked up voice commands, variable size Live Tile support and a security PIN feature to protect your notes.

You can use your Windows Phone 8 voice commands to launch Note+ and start a new note by saying, "Note+, create new note" and from there you simply follow the voice prompts and dictate your note.  Voice dictation can be also used to amend a note but for some reason you can't use voice dictation to create a new note from within the app.

You still have the ability to create notes the old fashion way by launching the app, tapping the + button and typing out your note but the voice dictation is a nice addition.

Note+

Additional features for the Windows Phone 8 version of Note+ include:

  • Live Tiles: small, medium and wide, for each individual note. The main Live Tile shows the last-edited or featured note.
  • Voice Commands: create, open, delete, share, read and copy notes, just using your voice.
  • Lock Screen Notifications: show the last-edited note as the detailed status on your lock screen.
  • Featured Note: select a note to be shown on the main Live Tile and detailed status on the lock screen.
  • Sharing: support for sharing via messaging, email and social networks.
  • Orientation and keyboard: portrait, landscape, text correction and full emoji support.
  • Easily copy notes to the clipboard.

With regards to the voice dictation, it can be a little confusing. If you are in Note+ and tap the + button to create a new note, you'll need to use the keyboard to enter the text. You can hide the keyboard and a voice dictation button will be at the bottom of the screen but it won't work properly until the note is saved. Once you save the note and go to add text, the voice dictation works fine.

Not sure if this is a limitation of Windows Phone or a glitch in the app. It would be nice if the dictation feature was available across the board.

The PIN feature is nice to keep prying eyes away from Christmas lists, Birthday lists, or any other sensitive notes. All in all, the update for Note+ brings a lot of nice features to the table. We would just like to see the voice dictation feature could be more universally available.

There is a free trial version available for Note+ that is limited to three notes at a time. The full version of Note+ is currently running $.99 and you can find it all here at the Windows Phone Store.

Thanks a lot for the feature, George!

Regarding voice dictation, it seems to be a bug not present in the emulator—I tested the app on a Lumia 820 recently, and found it along with some other small ones. I'm working on an update to fix these and improve some other areas, and plan to release it soon.

Awesome, the developer is here. :D

Already use it in my 800 its very handy and good

How does it compare to OneNote?
Or are they completely different from each other?

They're different. OneNote is suited for complex notes, while Note+ is for quick notes and reminders—akin Notepad on Windows. Also, Note+ integrates nicely with Windows Phone, taking advantage of Voice Commands, Live Tiles, detailed status on lock screen, and more.

Try it out and find the differences yourself.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just want to make sure it wasn't simply a duplicate app.
I've downloaded it and it's indeed a VERY handy app. I'm finding it quick to get in and out of it.

Is there any way to use the notes on my exchange account?

Sorry, there's no Exchange support at the moment.

Sounds like a very useful app. The features seem interesting to me. - Trident University

Hi George, the app has some of the awesome features. Really liked it. Thanks for sharing this awesome blog. SpeechTrans dictation app instantly converts speech to text & the app is very simple to use.
