Take your Windows Phone 8 Lockscreens into orbit with NASA Image of the Day

NASA Image of the Day

If you're a fan of space exploration and NASA, check out the NASA Image of the Day lockscreen wallpaper app for Windows Phone 8.

NASA Image of the Day will rotate your Windows Phone 8 lockscreen wallpaper daily with a different photo from the NASA library. Everything from launch day photos to photos of the cosmos. Toast notifications are in place to alert you when the image changes.

NASA Image of the Day

Images can be saved to your phone and a small description is available from within the app itself on each photo. You can share the images from within the app by email, text, and your social websites. The only downside to the app is that you can view previously used wallpapers without saving them to your Windows Phone.

NASA Image of the Day is an free, ad-supported app for your Windows Phone 8 device and you can find it here at the Windows Phone Store.

Thanks, Gabriel, for the tip!

Love my job, since I've been bringing in $5600… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online(Click on menu Home)

Gives a new meaning to having Apollo on my phone.

Its so blurry. Once I installed it and saw how poor the image resolution was... I took it right off.

What I elected to do was go to the Astronomy Picture of the Day page on NASA's site (ou can do a search for it), and I found some pictures I liked, saved them to my phone, and would switch between them. I havent' found a decent program whose purpose if to rotate between lockscreen images (tried Lockscreen++ but it was extremely buggy), but if you know of an app that CAN do that, this route would give you the high-resolution images on your phone.

tried several myself, ended up with Photostream, the others were either laggy or I didn't like them. This one is pretty simple and straightforward. (There's a review around here too) :)

Yeah, they're low resolution pictures. I'm having the same problem with Weather Flow, but I guess they're trying to fix it.

Was going to say how can I decide between BaconIt+SpacePorn lockscreens and this, but I guess based on the resolution issue, this app will have to wait for my lockscreen's attention

Using NASA Image of the Day's double wide live tile is another great option.  It updates everyday too.

Astronomy Lockscreen doesn't have the low-res picture issue.

HaibaneReki says:

I used that one for a while, but the Lockscreen message explaining the photo stopped working..

I am digging all these great lock screen apps and everyone has their own preference. I think for me to change from weather flow to another lock screen app is going to take alot. That has by far been my favorite........so far. Keep em coming though.

Hey everyone.  This is the developer here.  I hear your concerns about HD pictures.  An update with HD pictures is already in the approval process.  Expect an update in the store soon!  Thanks for your feedback and support.

good to see devs popping here :)

Hi. When is the image supposed to update? It's well into December 21st here and mine is still showing the December 20th image.

Lderan says:

I have also made an app that does this, its called cosmos. Though doesn't have the description or toast notifications like this one

I'm going to need something to swap through all of these cool lockscreen apps! :)

HaibaneReki says:

yes, lockscreen app to cycle lockscreen apps!
