Hello Friends updated with new templates, Win Phone 7 support on the horizon

Hello Friends is an app that's available for Windows Phone 8 owners who wish to customise their lockscreens with a collage of friend photos. The arrangement of photos are refreshed periodically in the background, leading to an effective change every so often. The app has now been bumped and includes a number of improvements.

It's a similar concept that's utilised by Microsoft in the People Hub tile, which shows contact photos in a continuously updated montage. So what's new in version two?

  • The user is now able to pick specific contacts that should be used for collages
  • The app provides an option to adjust the refresh time interval
  • 5 new templates
  • Improvements of the overall experience and several bug fixes

As well as the update, the developer plans to release a version for Windows Phone 7.x early January. So those with older hardware will be able to enjoy such functionality - it's not currently known how this will be achieved, but we look forward to seeing the app available for previous versions of Windows Phone.

You can download Hello Friends from the Windows Phone Store for $0.99 (free trial available).

With these updates HelloFriends might pull me away from Weatherflow

Mantikos says:

It already pulled me away - now only if there was a way to use BOTH at the same time! Aahh I an only dream!

Ramonis7 says:

Waiting for the wp 7.x version!

RaRa85 says:

Heck yeah and maybe we'll get lucky and Microsoft will tell us when we'll get the 7.8 update sometime in 2013.lol

Ramonis7 says:

Not sure if u own a Lumia, but if u do, it's possible to install the 7.8 update through Nokia Care Suite. I did it, and it's very good. :)

Lx23 says:

Is it a legit update? Is there any kinda side effects? I got a Lumia.

Ramonis7 says:

Well, they are on nokia servers, so I believe it's really legit. I had no problems while installing it, nor after. You just need to follow the steps correctly. The only problem is that you lose all your data, so, it's necessary to make a backup.

Lx23 says:

No thanks. Ima just wait for the official update.

RaRa85 says:

No I am with T-Mobile and therefore do not own one of the coveted Lumia devices.

Sir Switch says:

Being able to select which people show on the lock screen completely sold it for me, no more ex girlfriends faces popping up haha!

Just contacted the developer and asked for a weather add-on. Got a reply within a few minutes and was told that the features weather status and custom notes are already planned for an upcoming update :-) That means we will be able to add them as overlays for more customization.

thehidedout says:

If that's the case, then I would FINALLY stop switching between different lock screens every other day.

Mantikos says:

Don't have his contact deets but ask him to look at Weather Flow's lock screen implementation for inspiration - its is by far the cleanest and most elegant looking

DaddyLikey says:

The app crashes when loading my contacts and I'm on a Lumia 920 :(
