Windows Phone Game Review: MissileDefender

MissileDefender for Windows Phone

MissileDefender is a new game for your Windows Phone that comes from the developers of Grow. MissileDefender is a Missile Command styled game where you defend your city from incoming missile and alien attacks.

However, unlike the classic arcade game MissileDefender allows for upgrades to your defenses and conduct repairs to damaged buildings in between attack waves. The game screen is simply laid out with buildings and trees lining the bottom of the screen. Up top there is a pause button, your missile count and your upgrade/repair point total. As you destroy enemy missiles and ships you earn the upgrade/repair points.

The attacks come only at night and as the enemy missiles, bombs and ships enter the screen you simply tap the area where you want your defensive missiles to head towards. When your missiles reach their destination, they explode into a ploom of fire that will destroy the incoming artillery.

MissileDefender

In between each wave or level, you can upgrade your missiles to make them fly faster, have a larger explosion range, increase the explosion duration and increase the overall number of missiles available (you start with 35). Any damaged buildings can also be repaired by using these points.

With each wave, the incoming fire intensifies. The first few levels may come across as tame but if you make it to level four, hold on to your seat. You will need to repair and upgrade your missiles to keep up with the increased efforts to wipe out your city.

MissileDefender

All in all, MissileDefender is a very nice looking game for your Windows Phone that is challenging enough to keep it from becoming too stale. The only reservation we have is that it may be too challenging. It's really tough to get past level seven.  Then again, if the game was too easy it may quickly become boring.

There is a free trial available for MissileDefender to let you try things out before you buy. The full version is running $.99 and you can find it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

looks cool. grow's a great game and if it's coming from the same dev I'm sure the quality will be there.

Back to the 80's games.

The style and the type seems repetitive as it is in the nature of this game but as the level gets higher, it gets more exciting. - Scott Sohr
