Hello Friends

Hello Friends lockscreen app not only displays your friends, but the weather and battery in latest update

Hello Friends is a useful and popular app for Windows Phone that enables consumers to add photos of contact stored on the device to the lockscreen and create the same mosaic effect that's utilised on the People Hub Live Tile. As well as being available for Windows Phone 8 (with the added lockscreen support), Hello Friends is also downloadable for Windows Phone 7 hardware, but lacks automatic functionality.

We previously looked at Hello Friends when it was bumped to version 3.0, but the app has been updated since so what's new in the latest release?

The developer has taken a lot of feedback into account, which has shaped the new release to feature more functionality and customisable options for consumers to make use of. Hello Friends 4.0 sports addons that can be combined with the collage to add more content to the lockscreen. We're familiar with some of the extras, which are present in other lockscreen apps, but it's good to see everything in one app.

Hello Friends App

This additional functionality is now present in the customise screen. In this current version (4.0) there are to new addons available:

  • Weather - displays information on current known location (GPS required)
  • Battery - reads the status of the battery with remaining charge percentage

Transparency for said addons is configurable as well. More addons are planned to be added into the app to allow further customisation without the need to use multiple apps. But that's not all as Hello Friends also sports additional colour effects, one being a high contrast mode. Lastly, users can alter the margin of images in each and every template.

A number of bugs have been squashed, making version 4 well worth the upgrade and a rather massive update. If you haven't tried the app out already, we strongly urge you to do so - a free trial is available.

You can download Hello Friends for $1.29 (£0.99) from the Windows Phone Store. It's stated that Windows Phone 7 users can expect an update soon.

I was like wow a new update for windows phone 8, but then got dissapointed when started reading this thread...

I like this app and the weather was one thing it was missing . Thanks for the update.

Hopefully Lock Buster follows suit

Andy Stumpp says:

Hey Alex, Lock Buster will follow with the same extensions!

Yup, we desperately need a way to keep the screen on when the phone is locked

rodneyej says:

These guys are also the makers of a similar app called "lock Buster".. I wonder if they have a similar update planned for lock buster because LB is very cool. Just like HF it lets you make collages on your start screen, but with pictures you have in your albums. Its cool because you get to select which albums you want to pull pictures from..

Andy Stumpp says:

Hi! Great that you like these apps! And I have good news for you: Yes, we have already implemented the same features for Lock Buster! The current version will be updated very soon :-)

rodneyej says:

Good job, and thanks for the commitment..

Wish there was a way to get weather and battery on at the same time.

If I saw this update before purchasing I wouldn't have purchased.

I used Battery Sense previously as my 5th noficiation spot...wanted to free that spot up so bought this but already had Weather Flow at the top of my lock screen...thought this was my answer but obviously not

Judge_Daniel says:

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get the weather to work. I don't see any GPS options, either.

Andy Stumpp says:

Hi! There's a little bug when getting the GPS data. We have already fixed it and the update is on its way! Hope that helps, sorry for that!

Another lock screen app that won't update!

This what I was expecting from the lock screen options in the Facebook app, but the Facebook option is very disappointing. This works beautifully. The weather does need tweaking. My screen says 29 with snow.... Not in Tampa, we're enjoying 70 degree weather.

beautiful app.
