Huawei's Windows Phone plans leak online, glimmers with diamonds

Huawei, who will be in attendance at Mobile World Congress in a few weeks, may have had their Windows Phone lineup plan leaked a tad early. Although the juicy device specifics may not be present, we can at least get an insight into their thinking.

The company is planning on four stages of devices with the low end starting at “youth” (presumably Android) and going up through Gold, Platinum and Diamond. The latter will be their high end phones with more innovative tricks and premium processors.

Although it may shock people Huawei can actually do some interesting things, including hooking up with Dolby for speakers, water proof phones and high resolution displays—all of which could come to the Windows Phone lineup. (Note that the images have Android screens as placeholders but it’s the WP8 labeling that is of importance here).

The Huawei Ascend W1 is evidently launching in the Netherlands soon and the company looks to offer some nice bonuses, including “three years warranty on the unit, the unit is repaired within three days and also at home picked up and delivered” in addition to an online backup service for your data.

The question remains of course what will Huawei show off, if anything, at Mobile World Congress for Windows Phone? Rumors of a 6.1” Windows Phone were verified though it is unclear if it will happen in addition to a W2 “super thin” Ascend device as well, making Huawei perhaps an interesting player yet for the Windows Phone system.

This is good. More window phones...

tbonenga says:

OMG......I want a 6.1 screen.

sholokov says:

It will be like holding a tablet to your face when you talk on the phone.

tbonenga says:

It would also be a movie theater in my pocket...... Not to mention perfect for gaming.

Nik Rolls says:

You're going to need bigger pockets.

schlubadub says:

I've seen people do that - it's hilarious! It's just like holding a giant novelty phone to your head

edjr07 says:

I want one too would be great. I use Bluetooth for everything else.

rodneyej says:

I don't think I can go any higher than 5.5.. Lol!.. But, I do want bigger because sometimes I wish my 920 was another .5 larger.............

TreizFaction says:

Ditto 6.1 for me!

I'll take 5!!!  I don't know why people don't seem to understand that many of us use blue tooth anyway!  when you want to use the screen you want a screen that is easy to read!

agm353 says:

Bigger doesn't always mean easier to read.. It just means there is more space..

tbonenga says:

Bigger does mean better for watching movies / YouTube and gaming.

Problems when using it for games that are really poor graphically though, like Fruit Ninja and Civ Rev.

Aldoron says:

Id love to try one of these and see how it compares to my L920.

diplomat696 says:

IPad mini rival from the peoples republic ftw running rt/wp8!!!

purevibz says:

I like what they're doing with WP8.....

ebradley says:

I thought the charger port was supposed to be bottom center for a universal layout.

Nik Rolls says:

As is clarified pretty much every time someone says this on these comments, this was never a rule, just a recommendation.

Jeebus137 says:

I've also noticed that the 920 and 8X have their charging ports turned 180 degrees from each other, which would definitely defeat any universal aspirations.

Mid-End?  Isn't mid not an ending, but, yaknow the Middle?

Nakazul says:

In the middle of these comments that was the last I thought of ... but now I clearly see the middle as the end ;-)

nordicwarren says:

Not interested... I'm glade to see more support for windows phone though

Is this company copying the hell out of others r what lol

tbonenga says:

Everyone copies someone. Companies copy and improve. That's how we went from bag and car mount cell phones to 6.1 inch screens.

cashcar1979 says:

If Dell or HP get on board I'll be interested...would like to see a US hardware company in the mix. I still liked the DVP despite its camera...

Damien_666 says:

This. Still rocking on, with my unlocked DVP running 7.8
IMHO, it still gives a good fight to my L920, at least in looks!

Sicarius123 says:

I thought WP8 standards required  the USB port to be bottom centre?

tbonenga says:

Did you read the comments? Nik Rolls already answered this one.

cedarlog says:

i never thought i would say it ascend w1 looks great in white

takaya aiba says:

Entry models
Best value for
New-SP-Users

I assume they mean New-WP-Users?
Why New, SP and Users needs to be hyphenated escapes me.

High-End models,
Innovation & Gadget

Innovation and Gadget. Well that makes perfect sense.

Huawei is the largest vendor of telco kit in the world.
You think they would have taken the time to have someone proof-read their marketing material.

That is good news, we need some good hardware and why not a 6.1 inch WP8!

Rishicash says:

The US Dept. of Defense has stated that Huawei is a direct threat to national security as it is complicit in espionage for the Chinese government. Do not buy their products or support the company in any way including articles like this. If they are spying on the US, they are spying on the UK too. There are too many other great choices for Smartphones to have to even consider Huawei.

cashcar1979 says:

Bingo...totally agree

Gogzs says:

Dude, if you only knew on who the US spyes, and what dirty tricks they use. Please, just don't...

cashcar1979 says:

I live in the US...and support the US.

Rishicash says:

Not all Chinese manufacturers actually spy for the government, but this one does.  I'm not calling for a boycott of all Chinese products, just this one. Find out what Huawei actually does. It is a huge company that is only just now making Smartphones. Think of it as a Chinese Cisco and then think about the implications.

takaya aiba says:

Australia has also blocked Huawei from involvement in the National Broadband Network, based on the findings of an Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) investigation.

Gogzs says:

Why is Android running on the screens? :D

cedarlog says:

read the article :P

Tips_y says:

I almost fell off my seat when I first read the story but then I realized Huawei is probably just using Gold, Platinum, Diamond as codenames for their upcoming high-end models. Lol!
