O2 bringing Huawei Ascend W1 aboard in late March

Huawei Ascend W1

British carrier O2 announced back in January that they planned to carry the Huawei Ascend W1 later this year. O2's "coming soon" has revealed that the W1 will be arriving sooner rather than later, in late March. O2 will offer the W1 in Electric Blue and Electric Pink at an unspecified price. There's no exact release date yet, but at least we have a good idea of when to expect it.

The Ascend W1 first showed up at CES, where we got a hands-on look at it. As an entry-level handset, the W1 will not turn a lot of heads, but it feels good in hand will still offer up a pleasant Windows Phone 8 experience without breaking the bank.

The Ascend W1 has a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, 1950mAh battery, 4" (800x480) display, 512MB of RAM, 5 MP camera, and 4GB storage (expandable to 32GB with a micro SD card). We'll update when more information becomes available from the mobile operator.

So who is going to buy the Huawei over HTC or Nokia or Samsung? Hmmmm? :)

cedarlog says:

people who want  better spec with cheap price its a choice

Eddie_Lomax says:

If it is over £100 then I'd guess more or less no one.
The HTC has broadly better specs, and the Nokia has better specs (more storage, Dolby headphones, clear black display, a useable telephone function etc) + all the exclusive software.
Its going to be interesting though to see just how low they can go on price though.

cedarlog says:

HTC 8S doesnt have better spec nor lumia620 the only advantage lumia620 has over ascend w1 is 8G storage and clear black

ciccio35 says:

Well, actually it's not just that: the Lumia has also a front facing camera and the nokia exclusive apps. The Huawei w1 is basically an 8s with a slightly more powerful processor and a bigger battery.

cedarlog says:

Ascend w1 also has 0.3 front facing camera :P to be fair  touch performance on HTC 8S & ascend w1 better than lumia620 it could be software issue

Looks pretty nice to me.  Plenty of people don't need or want a super computer to content with. Launch it and lets see what the reception is.  I suspect it'll do well on the low end market.

Is there an OS limitation on the size of the microSD card? If so, that really needs to be lifted.

saket87 says:

I have a 64gb sdhc in my ativ s. So I don't think its the os

lippidp says:

Ok. Thanks for the info.

This is aimed at the low end market. Whoever doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a smartphone, or who can't spend a lot of money will pick it up. Not everyone gets the latest and greatest phone out there.

md_minhaj says:

I wonder how much will be the actual usable memory out of the 4 GB. I heard the apps will be installed in the phone memory, if that's the case then this mobile won't be a good choice.

Any U.S carriers? I really want a WP8 for MetroPCS, and this seems to be the only option for WCDMA/LTE that Metro could have at an unsubsidized price.

The US Dept. of Defense has declared that Huawei spies for the Chinese government and is a threat to national security. Boycott their products and stop promoting them in articles like this. You can be sure the same goes for the UK.
