What a feeling as Nokia employees randomly break into song and dance

Chrome Nokia Lumia 900

A chromed Nokia Lumia 900: to impress all of your high roller friends

When at Mobile World Congress you can come across some random and odd things. This one gets filed under that category. What you see in the photo above (and video) is a custom chromed Nokia Lumia 900.

Now, we have to point out that this was not done by Nokia but rather one of their Ambassador’s, George Salcedo (@Salcedo_George), who took it upon himself to track down a place to do this kind of thing. In short, the ability to “chrome plastic” (and in this case polycarbonate) is evidently now achievable, if you can find the right place to do it.

We’re not going to lie, it’s a tad heavy but the cool touch makes it totally worth it. Maybe someday we’ll all have metal Lumias, eh?

Chromed 920 please! Sounds epic!

I am going to get a metal smith to copy a Nokia Lumia 920 case, take out the internals and put it in a chrome body like that.

Mik29 says:

Chrome 820 wireless shell please Nokia :D

AngeloUCF says:

Cool, but doesn't look like the detail work around the ports was done very well

It's a prototype, the first attempt. It will be refined...

honeybudger says:

Chrome it WP central.. I will buy it for my 920.

PFAR says:

What good does it do for cellphone reception?

jgbstetson says:

Yeah, I imagine chrome makes a great EM shield.

pmich says:

In theory that looks good but quickly that would probably get scratched or would show fingerprints like crazy.

TrustySnooze says:

I've always wanted something other than plastic.

JacksonSQD says:

It gets ruined by the fact that it's a fingerprint magnet. :P

willied says:

Chrome is so ugly and gaudy.

jgbstetson says:

If cell phones existed in the 50's, this is what they would look like.

No it wouldn't.  It would be made of wood.

no no in avant garde design is the NEW look. A nice handcrafted wood made handphone would be cool.

KasakDesign says:

I think it looks great but im with the guy up there that mentioned how it will effect your cell phone service. I would like a metal plated phone in general. Something that's hard to break. I hate huge covers for my phone. Im just one person though.

sHAYM4N says:

Does it still come with Internet Explorer?

Someone should just make a chrome snap-on case.

gilesjuk says:

Can do this yourself with a can on silver plasticote paint :)

gsquared says:

It wouldn't be the same look. I'm no expert in this sort of thing by any means but I used to work for a shower-head / faucet manufacturer and they have these chambers where they release the chrome material and some type of gases then bombard the object with positive (or negative) ions. The chrome material is then bonded to the object being chromed. What is cool about this process is if you adjust the gas amounts you can acheive a wide range of colors or multiple colors to an object. Anyway, enough of that.
We have the StormTrooper model. I deem this phone as the Terminator!

washlampah says:

Strongly request chrome for 920

Jay Bennett says:

He had that as well, but the screen was destroyed so we didn't film it :)

NarcoSleepy says:

Other than being rather gaudy, wouldn't the chrome interfere with reception?

migueltoro says:

Polish a turd...

cesar ruiz1 says:

Just make one with a Coors light can

greg2k says:

That's about as close as we'll ever get to seeing Chrome on WP. Haw.

kwambe5 says:

LOL, the way Google is going that's what it looks like. Not that we need it anyway!

RJ Priest says:

Not everyone will like it, but I think that it looks pretty cool.  Always cool to see supporters of a product trying new things with it.

jlynnm350z says:

Looks good, except around some of the holes looks kinda funky. Must really wanted a chrome one to go through all that trouble. One word, FINGERPRINTS

yellowmage says:

"Everything is chrome in the future!"

LaNiQuE says:

Dan are my eyes playing tricks on me cause the one in the picture looks like it has the black Carl Zeiss but the video one looks to be all chromed out anyways this is pretty creative I hope it's more interesting stuff like this at MWC cause you really have to love these devices to go that next step

MuhaMasoud says:

How much do you think it costs?

LightBulbIT says:

I live in Texas. This could double as a hot plate in the summer...

tone84 says:

Better if it was a 920.

Looks as durable as an iPod Touch.. yea..

GSzah says:

Shut up and take my money!

Make a chromed cyan hued version for Lumia 920 and I'll be VERY happy.......

Talbot690 says:

I was watchin an automotive tv show a few weeks ago and they had a company on that could chrome plate just about anything (plastic, rubber, wood ect) i think they were called CyberShield. Well apearently you could send your parts or whatever to them and they would chrome plate it.

eXtermia says:

ok someone mod the area where it says carl zeiss and with a glowing red sweeping light, and we can call it a toaster er a cylon..
