DJCBS says:

Here it still shows version
I've downloaded and will check version 3.0. Though I must say...I doubt very much that it will be better than MetroTube.

heward says:

Daniel Rubino is working; give him more money boss :)

walter1832 says:

Who's the boss?

Man upstair???!!!

dreonedon says:

Wow I love this best YouTube on any phone or ui

rahul4aug says:

Facebook beta coming to wp7 users as well

murtagh360 says:

No update here in Ireland just yet, hopefully it arrives soon. Good news on the app front recently.

Finally, a Proper YouTube App. And it works nicely.

Jamie Frew says:

Damn, hasn't quite made it to the UK yet, how is this compared to metrotube, does it bring better control over links to youtube within IE10?

ZuNuKoo says:

You can download videos with this app. Could you with the last one?

sarim_xyz says:

it shows V3.0 on the web while in the Store, it's still V1.0. I installed it from the web and it installed V1.0...strange.. :-/   (India)

From India here. It is now available

sarim_xyz says:

really? I can't find it on my phone. the web store shows it but not the Store app. well, lemme restart my phone.
Update: nope, not even after restarting :-/

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried the online installation method from

sarim_xyz says:

it's available now. at that time, the web store showed V3.0 but when I installed, it gave me V1.0. anyway, I got V3.0 now from the Store app itself. :)

DaSchnee says:

Everytime I open up the store page it wants to update me back and forth between 1.0 and 2.0... the store clearly has some problems lately

chucky says:

I use metrotube anyways

lubbalots says:

All I can say is wow! These 2 months are both heaven and hell.

Corvodin says:

I might just say that I'm excited for this, just have to wait a little bit more to get it :D

KeegdnaB42 says:

Not a bad effort at all. Still prefer metrotube but it'll be nice to not only have links open in a real app, but to be able to tell people we have a real app.

Sean D. says:

Wow, does that really happen in real life? Like do people really sit around compairing apps, and develop app envy??

Not talking crap, just asking.

murtagh360 says:

I got prompted for an update but it sent me back to v1.0 , then another update back to v2.0.

Very strange, I think the store is having some issues

Have you tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling?

murtagh360 says:

I just did that, and now the only version I can download is v1.0.

Sean D. says:

I'll say it again, fuck google. They've chosen their stance so I won't use their crap on my device.
Plus unless someone can tell me without a doubt it's better than Metro Tube then I really don't need it.

Its very fast, but at this point I cant say that its better than metro tube. Metro Tube is a highly praised app. The devs definitely deserve the recognition and loyalty. :)

walter1832 says:

Without a doubt, it's better than Metro Tube.

Nick Garza says:

How, not nearly as well designed. Metrotube has a pretty unique look, this one looks like parts of it were thrown together.

rockstarzzz says:

He said "When it rains it pours" - not when it rains in the UK! Evidence: we don't have the update yet. Fact.

useme2useyou says:

It says version 2.0 in the UK and last updated in 2012! Not sure if that's the same one everyone's talking about. Please advise...

rockstarzzz says:

a) article says it all
b) its 3.0 you want
c) check after dinner ;)

So...i deleted the official YouTube app a while ago, because it was just a browser shortcut...but this update is VERY IMPRESSIVE! Of course I have to give Metro Tube their praises for giving me everything that I needed in a YouTube app! I hope we continue to support both. :)

jag76844 says:

Great, about time

Zeeshan360 says:

Still isn't updated for India

Indeed, about ti

Updated ... Yet it still the same thing, just a link to YouTube web page

BK-one says:

tube pro replaced with YouTube on my home screen.. Thanks Google..

Eas195 says:

Google does nothing with this. Microsoft does.

dKp1977 says:

You do realize it's a Microsoft app, yes? The only thing Google ever released for WP was a crappy search app.

PipoDj says:

II was about to comment, "you should thank MS not google" but uh, i guess yes we should thank Google for giving MS the permission so MS could do a great YouTube app

Credo93 says:

Actually Microsoft is the owner of this app, thank them! :p

Suedezu says:

Same old version in Romania

Andreas H says:

Updated in Swe. How sweet it is :)

FearL0rd says:

The new 3.0 version is amazing. Now we need a "play to" capability like windows 8 for 5 stars

So will the wpcentral app now have real HD video when it is linked in a video?

laserfloyd says:

Nice looking app.  About time. :)

PipoDj says:

Is it just me or am i seeing a trend to WHITE backgrounds as of late. Twitter, new foursquare now youtube... what else?
Oh i am still waiting for some great games like tap tap revenge and candy crush (yeah yeah i know hit me with a mullet and an anvil for those haha)
So back on topic, I love this new version of youtube. It's now finally at par or at least nearing the perfection that is MetroTube!

afgzee says:

I still only see, it just opens IE for me still, Lumia 820...

Tafsern says:

Yeah, it's something wrong with the Store that jumps the versions all the time. I deleted mine again, restarted the phone, downloaded the app and got the right one. Now I got an update in the Store for the older version again, but hey...I got the new one and I am not updating it ;)

WillBrown says:

Play under lock screen? Yes! This will be great for when I'm listening to a lecture or long presentation that doesn't require watching the video.

phatboy66 says:

This is amazing!

aerosmillie says:

Still waiting here in UK. Love the play under lock screen feature, looking forward to using that and hopefully there will be a Windows 8 version to follow for my Surface.

NarcoSleepy says:

It's nice, but I prefer the dark background of MetroTube.

Credo93 says:

Still not available in Belgium :(
EDIT: finally got it! awesome!

sandmanfvr says:

Needs one feature I sent feedback on:  Links still open in IE, other than that awesome.

Nick Garza says:

Wtf is up with that bar across the top of the app. They are on a roll with this.

lilivojdub says:

If this app is any indication of what Microsoft can do, I am looking forward to the next app releases. This YouTube app is great! It is better than the others that I am currently using.

blasher4 says:

Oh my gosh! This is such an amazing update. It's nice, fluid, and functional and as now an actual APP! The only concern is how I can check my YouTube e-mail messages (my inbox).
How do I go about doing this??????????

Can't see the update yet ...

Helmy Emony says:

Still not available in Malaysia :( !

DenniSundaY says:

I installed it, got an update and now it is back to version 2.0.0. And in the store it says 2.0.0 too! Why do I always get those weird things -.-

tpankrah says:

beautiful UI) a complete overhaul!

ifa1st says:

Still showing version 1.0 in UK market after the update strangely, even when following the link.

dKp1977 says:

It's just the direct link to the app in your store. So how could it show a different version from what you get by manually looking it up? oO Anyways, 2.0 over here in Germany. Waiting for the update to populate.

Daaaaaaaaaaayyymmmm!!! Wp just getting better and better!! Im super excited!

StreetNerd says:

dafuq guys???? when i scan the tag it directs me to the mobile youtube app?!?!?!

Craig Tucker says:

Now thats the real deal. Good job

rankachmiari says:

Available in Portugal Windows Phone Store :)

neo158 says:

Would you mind rubbing it in a little more for us in the UK /s

DJCBS says:

Well, I'm in Portugal and it only updates to version

rankachmiari says:

Tenho um Lumia 820, proceurei na store e apareceu logo para fazer update, deixa conectar com a minha conta do youtube e tudo.
I have an Lumia 820, just searched in the store and it show to update, I can connect with my youtube account also.

DJCBS says:

DJCBS says:

Obrigado. Mas o Lumia 920 não tem cartão SD. Vou experimentar no 620.

MDak280 says:

My store is set to US but the app says it hasn't been updated since October of last year.

jwinch2 says:

Any advantage to using this app over metrotube?  I hate to ditch a designer who has put out a good app for the platform well ahead of the official one unless it is dramatically better in some way.

alijahg34 says:

You can download the video epic I wonder if I can transfer the to the desktop

Coreldan says:

Meh, cant reply to comments directly or access inbox, meaning ill just stick to using the mobile browser site

alijahg34 says:

Give it time people it will show

alijahg34 says:

You guys have to make a video review comparison between Android and iPhone

Manny C says:

I know several other updates/releases have occurred lately, but was this the actual "YOU" Joe Belfiore was referring to?
Beautiful app nonetheless. :)

Ba2Py says:

Will i be able to remote control the xbox youtube app with this version of youtube? I really miss that feature from the android version

Awesome guys, thanks MS, now if i could get the following that would be great. we need some apps so that we can get something done on the phone.
1) TD Ameritrade
2) PNC Bank
3) Mint
4) Citi Bank
5) Vanguard

UKintel says:

Something odd just happened on my lumia920 in the uk
It showed the update as available so i went ahead and installed failing to notice the version number. Once installed i couldn't see any changes, its still a web app. Unable to find version number i headed over to the store to see what was available and it showed 1.0 version.
I then uninstalled the app completely and restarted my device. Went back to the store only to find version 2.0
So now i have no idea what version i have but i looks nothing like those pics. Stuck with a old version for now... Maybe its too soon for my region?

Blocks9 says:

Exactly the same happened with my 920 here in the UK! Guess we'll just have to be patient!! Something i don't find easy :)

thaman04 says:

It's still deploying right now.  Just wait a bit, uninstall and try again if you need to.

MarkCwee says:

Same thing here. Serbia

Tafsern says:

Same thing here in Norway..

Corvodin says:

Continuing in the trend of same here, same here,Bosnia.

thaman04 says:

WOW THIS IS SO FAST AND BUTTERY SMOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nesl247 says:

For those of you who aren't seeing the new version, uninstall the current, power the phone off and on. After doing this I immediately saw the new version.

MarkCwee says:

Negative. Had 2.0, uninstalled, rebooted, now I see only 1.0 in the market... :/

Blocks9 says:

Tried doing as you suggested with no success. Still showing version 1, which is the mobile website.

JMBasquiat says:

This is still not a full YouTube client. There doesn't seem to be a way to upload videos.

MatthewGavin says:

Of course this is after I bought myTube

Josh Harman says:

Uninstalling metrotube. This actually is a real app and you scroll through video rather than just skip ahead. Nice.

Metrotube had always scroll through videos, but yeah now I like official app too, can't decide between 2

Charles Wang says:

Since this is done by Microsoft themselves, I hope the greater implication is that, in the next version, we will see scrolling available for the built in music / video player.

cybermoose89 says:

Looks the same to me tbh

tendoboy1984 says:

Why do we even need apps for Facebook or YouTube? Facebook is built into Windows Phone, and the mobile browser works fine for those websites.

Why did Microsoft even make these apps? Can't Google and Facebook make their own apps?

Tafsern says:

Nobody is forcing you to use an app, grow up!

jcutting says:

The Facebook functionality in Windows Phone covers the basics - your feed, friends' feeds, commenting and liking, sharing pics and links, etc.  However, there are a number of things you still can't do with the built-in functionality and that's where the app comes in.  Examples including tagging people on check-ins, deleting posts and comments, viewing pages for people or things other than your contacts, viewing groups, and viewing likes on a post.  There are more, those are just a handful of examples. Some of these things  should be added to WP (like tagging people on check-ins and viewing likes), but Microsoft never intended to completely implement all FB functionality in the core OS.  The same goes for Twitter and LinkedIn.
Google has refused to make apps for Windows Phone or Windows 8, so Microsoft took care of it for WP.  As for Facebook... who knows.  If I were to guess, they probably didn't want to commit resources to an official app for a platform without a lot of marketshare, but authorized Microsoft to do so.

bilzkh says:

Here's hoping for the following apps, games and updates!
Adobe Acrobat Reader and/or MS PDF Reader brought up to speed
Temple Run 2
Real Racing 2 & 3
VoIP in Facebook
An app for every major bank in the world, especially in Canada
BBC iPlayer (not just a glorified web wrapper, but a native app)

afgzee says:

something strange here too. apparently i had 2.0 before, i then looked in the store earlier it said 1.0 now i've just had a notification of an update available, its now 2.0 ...
so where is 3.0?  UK here L820.

dKp1977 says:

Try again in a bit and it'll prompt you to update... to 1.0. Happened to me a couple of minutes ago, lol.

afgzee says:

yeah just been updated to the beautiful v1.0 again... wtf

Dazzi says:

The exact same thing happened to me, now I'm back 1.0 (Also the UK)

KKRLessey says:

Still seeing version 1 in UK. Lumia 920

Montpbm says:

Again! FINALLY!!!! :)

Tafsern says:

It's back :D

The Courier says:

Very nice indeed, great update. All we need now is a decent bloody Google+ App lol

And a few more bank apps as well, I would enjoy a Wells Fargo app personally.

afgzee says:

I've just been prompted to install v1.0 again. Seem to be going in circles. Had 2.0, updated to 1.0, then updated to 2.0 and now its updated again to 1.0. Not making much sense...

DJRedLine says:

Same pattern here. UK

thelimkid says:

Though I love the UI of metrotube I'm going to have to ditch it since you're only able to watch videos available on the mobile site and not the full site. Where Microsoft's youtube app and even tubepro allows you to...unless I'm missing something. But metrotube for windows 8 is still the best YouTube app on windows 8!

YasinLumia says:

Flipboard and Instagram olease

YasinLumia says:

Seeing version 2.0 now. - UK Lumia 920

And now its back to V1.0 in uk.. Loving the updates

giorgio h says:

Keek! Anyone?

rankachmiari says:

For those who yet didn't recieve the update, try to install this .xap via SDcard.

This .xap was downloaded through

p4nfa says:

Still links to mobile sight here in Aus

p4nfa says:

In my store its still version 1.0 - updated oct2012

afgzee says:

I think there is a problem here and it needs looking into...

Blocks9 says:

Going round in circles here. Keeps updating (and downgrading) between version 1 and version 2 - as tho, its in some kind of loop!

murtagh360 says:

Yes this keeps happening to me too

rpm5101 says:

Dare I say it....I'm going to start using the official YouTube app???? You have now entered the twilight zone.

morpheus1982 says:

After an issue installing I myself have now been downgraded to version Nonsense.

Cellus13 says:

That explains the rain today.

Suedezu says:

Something is very wrong with the store right now

afgzee says:

Can we all go and discuss this looping between v1 and v2 further in this thread:

bkp47 says:

our nokia today are really competative now! more apps to come!

MarkCwee says:

Rubino please don't announce anything anymore... :/

agm353 says:

Time to ditch MetroTube! Ha just kidding, love lazy worm apps! Keep it up LW!

Cellus13 says:

Holy crap! Its actually metro/modern! I just wish the home button would be smaller along with that bar at the top. That seems to becoming a recurring theme in official metro apps.

Nice UI! But still can't upload :(

fuflo says:

So delete metro tube wich occupies a ton of memory ( after a while u use it) and new official app yeah

topleya says:

Mine has just updated/downgraded to 1.0 (UK Ativ S)

Magdy Samir says:

Me too, uninstalled and reinstalled and no luck, stuck on 1.0

afgzee says:

can someone at WPCentral find out  what is going on with this jumping between v1.0 and v2.0 constantly?

1101x10 says:

The stores all scroogled.

TechnoTim says:

This doesn't fix youtubes block on mobile IE10 though

phonohead says:

MetroTube is on a thin thread now. 0.99$ saved!

afgzee says:

MetroTube is still free. Its your choice to pay for it, otherwise its free of charge.

phonohead says:

Still, 0.99$ saved.

cmusician says:

Just want to say that this is really a refreshing look and feel of the app! Very well done indeed!!!

Yu Cheng says:

I have a 620 and a 920, i tried to install it via the website, it is installed on 920 sucessfully while still show the old web-site version in 620, AM I IN THE SAME STORE? It couldn't be explained by the update time of different region.

boxa72 says:

Experiment by changing phones region settings n it will go 2 that version of the store but make sure it's n English region lol

edsal says:

I love it which one do i keep on my phone metro 'mytube damn i like all three of them.

killakiloz says:

If your with bell in Canada 3.0 is live just got it!

DJCBS says:

Just tried the USA store, the UK store, the Portuguese store...ALL show version I managed to update to version 2.0...and then after a while it updated again...back to version 1.0

This is completely messed up. I wonder if Microsoft screwed up and released this 3.0 by accident of if Google was quick enough to force them to withdraw the new version.

(EDIT: had to go over to the German store to be able to get v 3.0)

gphoneone says:

Still not in UK.

gphoneone says:

Looking like V 3 has been withdrawn!

bono5112 says:

This is a really nice app

gphoneone says:

My mistake, in UK now

useme2useyou says:

Ok, version 3 has arrived in the UK for WP8. Lumia 920 looking good! Lol

JimmyRespawn says:

Quite awesome update. But its banned in China. Lol

We can download videos now!!! YaY!!!

nokia3660 says:

Is it too early to ask for live streaming support? Or does any youtube app on WP has live streaming support?

mrdeeds_72 says:

I love metrotube, but being vulnerable to googles API makes it that much less appealing. I can't access previously made playlists and my top rated and most viewed are stuck in the past. Love this new official app!

TechAbstract says:

As good as Metrotube

mrappbrain says:

When exactly is the wp7 version coming out?

It's high time. The phone did not show me any update notification, so I updated it manually. Aaaand, it's amazing!!!

WPUser111 says:

What does video hub integration do please tell me?

boxa72 says:

I think it refers to the music + video hub in our OS, so we can save vids n it will show up in that particular hub

Andr3sfc says:

The app is NEAT!

Localhorst86 says:

This is an incredible update. The app went from completely useless to top notch. All the features that are needed are there. I am still keeping metrotube as my primary youtube app, though as it does use a black background (which I prefer over white)
EDIT: Another reason I am sticking with metrotube is the fact that there's a size limit for downloads. Not sure if it's cummulative or for a single video, though.

Oddly enough.  I've found MyTube to be the new answer.  I'm not a fan of the white background in the offical app.  So for now I'll be sticking to 3rd party.

CobraJ82 says:

That's awesome...sorry metrotube :(...bye for now...

ThaChaosKing says:

Still not The best :(

ChiraagShah says:

Available in UK now

Missle1978 says:

Installed fine and can log in but wont play videos? Keeps saying 'we weren't able to play this video, try again'. Says same thing on all videos... Any ideas??

JammyGitz says:

Quite a nice app, very smooth

vmcamposjr says:

Sorry, but if this app does still not allow uploads, the app is pretty worthless. I like watching videos, but I love creating them much more. If I cannot upload my videos from my amazing Lumia 920 (the camera is the best smartphone camera I've ever used), in HD to YouTube FROM THE OFFICIAL APP, then this yet another slap in the face from Google against Microsoft.
Time to give Vimeo a serious look, I guess.

phize says:

Well, is there a way to create a live tile that shows subscription updates - as in MetroTube? If not, I won't be using it

Why my Nokia Lumia 820 can't download this application?
