Voxer for Windows Phone

Voxer push-to-talk messaging app now available for Windows Phone 8

The popular messaging service Voxer has now graduated from private beta to full on public release for Windows Phone 8 devices. The service is similar to a few other push-to-talk apps available on mobile devices in that it allows you to send voice clips, in addition to photos and regular messaging.

What makes the Voxer app for Windows Phone unique though is how fast it is. We’ve been playing around with the app for a little bit here in San Francisco and messages are virtually instant (and we’re talking about those push notifications). If you leave a chat windows open with a contact, voice clips come in nearly at real-time and auto-play for you, which we have to admit is quite compelling.

Voxer for Windows Phone

From the app description:

“Voxer® is more than just a Walkie-Talkie. With Voxer every push-to-talk message is live (people can listen as you talk) and recorded (as a message in your timeline). You can also send text, photos, and share your location.

Voxer allows you to easily and instantly communicate with one friend or a group of friends. Friends can listen to your message while you talk, or check audio messages later. Forget about separate phone calls, voicemails, text messages and emails.”

Like a few other apps, Voxer is hands off for setting up (besides account creation), here meaning that it will go through your contacts and populate who’s-who within the app. No invites, no checking to see if they’re already a user. The app uses your phone number, like WhatsApp for account registration and then uses your friend’s phone number for account searches.

Yes, an argument can be made that we have perhaps too many messaging services out there, but we’re going to be honest: the Windows Phone Voxer app is really nice. It’s super fast, well designed and the service powering it so far seems reliable. For that reason, if you’re in the market for a new messaging service on the go, we think Voxer will fill that void.

Love them official apps, keep 'em coming.

doomtuba says:

One of the apps I missed most from Android! Downloaded it instantly! Glad to see they did a great job with it instead of a shoddy port!

Cienight says:

No support for 7.8.
Its like releasing an app for ios 6 but not for 5...

Its more in line with releasing an app for BB10 but not BB7

taymur says:

thats the reason i ditched my luma 800 and went for a cheap lumia 720, just for that.

goldenpipes says:

Le sigh..... I'm going to be upgrading soon. Hopefully this new 1020zoom or w/e its going to be called gets released soon... I want a l920 but if it's a month away for the latest and greatest I'll wait.

...and a week later Google buys them.

Epic! And super fast compared to WeChat!

inteller says:

i wouldn't say that.  I picked up WeChat after someone suggested it when I tried to get them to install Voxer.  WeChat has come a LOOOOONG way since I played with it on WP7.  It is a top quality app and BIG BIG BIG in China.

dkxs says:

Yes, it has almost become the default mobile IM app for most users in China, and it claims to reach 400 million users soon

jpm0321 says:

i like it! very fast, messages are almost instantaneous. wish I can save the pictures and sound messages on the phone.

This is the best chat app out there. I've had plenty of friends hold off on WP8 because there was no Voxer. Too bad they have to wait two years go switch now. Lol.

That's amazing. The WhatsApp on WP7/8 is a garbage: slow and with a lot of bugs.

I hope that the Voxer be best.

Let's test!

taymur says:

this looks and feels better than whatsapp!

inteller says:

thanks humbertx for the tip?  WMPU scooped this...they also scooped Walgreens 2.0, Xfinity, and Marketwatch....stay classy.

Scooped? lol., you have no idea what you are talking about. Microsoft blogged this and tells us directly. And no one actually reads WMPU, at least I don't. Love you.

mccasive says:

Please Dan, you don't need to trash WMPU to make your response. Surur would not be happy to hear that and besides, WpCentral and WMPU are the two most respectable sites for the Ecosystem and at least there should be that mutual respect and cordiality between these two sites.

WMPU is most definitely not respectable. They post trash stories, run with any rumor without the slightest bit of evidence just so they can claim they called it first. As for Surur, this is the guy who suggested someone should die just because they didn't like Windows Phone.

jMawl says:

So basically WMPU = WPCentral...JK :)

diftor says:

Dan, you forgot to mention how everyone misses Edward and msmmobile

Josh Harman says:

I concur with Daniel. I read about it on the blog, shortly after got a tweet & then came here to tip WPC... but they had already posted it.

ZX9 says:

I've been following WP since nearly its announcement and WPCentral (/WMExperts) are the best. Even if they don't report immediately, they write better (articulated and trustworthy) articles. (Though occasionally some typos, but that's life.)

Now we only need the oficial Instagram app, Wells Fargo and the oficial Pinterest app for have the 50 top apps (said in the WP8 launch)... At least we have great alternatives for Instagram and Pinterest... :)

x I'm tc says:

I don't do Pinterest, but my wife does.  What is the Pinterest app you like?  I'll pass the info along.

So far so good! However, the confirmation when you wish to exit the program, in my opinion, is a bit annoying. But all in all great app!

BTW, What was the big app realease in june end Dan? Already out? If so which one?

Choco22 says:

I just saw this app, together with songza and the updated twitter and foursquare announced at the Build 2013 Keynote..

rcasey says:

Gorgeous app. Alas, I live in Korea so it's back to boring old Kakao for me.

lasm2000 says:

I have just tried it and it is a great app, the problem now is getting some contacts to make some use of it. Here most people just have whatsapp, which behaves horribly on WP8.

murtagh360 says:

Brilliant. My brother loved using this on IOS. Glad wp8 is now supported and its a nifty app :)

Nice app. Very quick messages. Just a bit bland and short of customisation.

TMavC5 says:

For some reason, its not seeing my IOS friends.  I can see Android friends.  Anyone else noticing this?

murtagh360 says:

I'm talking to my bro on it and he uses IOS so no problem my end

Josh Harman says:

Automatically added some contacts that I know have iPhones for me.

deadwrong03 says:

No 7.x app wtf

murtagh360 says:

It now keeps crashing on me when I re-enter it. Anyone get this? All blank screens, have to uninstall

Josh Harman says:

May just have glitched on original install.

murtagh360 says:

I have done that about 5 times.

Josh Harman says:

It's not sending messages for me, may be buggy.

ibbyj says:

I feel like we are getting so many official apps lately!

Dan, I think you could use some moisturizer.  Your hand looks kind of dry.

erasure25 says:

^ This!! lol j/k

Just tried this app but it has the same issue as WeChat, namely the audio notes lack clarity. They sound muffled and slightly distorted whereas voice clips on Hike are clear as a bell. Shame really as I use voice a lot and this app looks nice.

WhippedKream says:

Does anybody else think that Voxers integrated chat for groups (I.e. The middle one in the picture) should definitely be integrated in windows messaging hub? It looks so clean and wow

lerimer says:

How do I log in using my Facebook credentials? That's what I used when I first opened my account using an iPhone.

DaWn o WaR says:

Already in love with this app!
