Scalado co-founder talks about Nokia purchase and what the team has achieved

Sami Niemi, one of the co-founders of Scalado, a Swedish-based imaging firm which has been renowned for its innovative mobile imaging experiences has spoken to Nokia Conversations about what the team has achieved since being gobbled up by Nokia last year.

Niemi became Nokia's director of Capture & Relieve software product management after the move and within months Nokia Smart Shoot was released, alongside an alpha version of PhotoBeamer was being demonstrated to operators. It's quite the adventure.

If you've been enjoying features and functionality from the likes of PhotoBeamer and Creative Studio then you've been rocking out with the work by this talented team. If you're interested in learning more about Scalado's past, the team's innovations and what they're doing at Nokia, be sure to head on over to Nokia's blog post and give it a read.

And Sami Niemi is from Finland ;)

Nice read. I love where Nokia is taking the mobile industry to. Their advances has only been mimicked by many companies and they will ,for at least right now, continue to innovate and direct the industry.

I wish Steve Jobs were alive to watch his iPhone get leapfrogged by Nokia and Microsoft from the product perspective. Sure, Apple's profits are still fantastic, but I believe when WP Blue is released Apple will be in the rear view mirror from a sales perspective also.

UzaiBaka says:

One could argue that if Steve Jobs were still alive, Apple would still be innovating therefore the leapfrogging of which you speak may have never occurred.

Zulfigar says:

Don't know about that, the iPhone would still have a 3.5" screen as Steve himself said that bigger isn't necessary.

gibbage says:

He also said that a tablet smaller than 10 inches would need sandpaper to file down your fingertips to use. Hello iPad mini!

rohanagarwal says:

To be honest..i doubt if WP BLUE will bring many enhancements to WP8. Don't get me wrong..i have a Lumia 920 and i absolutely love it. But seeing WP7 and WP8, and their excuse for not having a notification center, and many such small yet important improvements, i am guessing they'll run out of time for many such improvements. And that's when I'll run out of patience too. WP is gold, but it needs to be groomed and shaped so that it glitters, as gold that doesn't glitter isn't the gold that i desire. :)

lippidp says:

This is more like WP7 to WP7.5 than WP7.5 to WP8.  We can expect significant advances in the OS.  WP7 was totally unusable and only for the fanboys, whereas WP7.5 was actually decent.  Same will be true about WP8 and Blue.  (I hope!)

@UzaiBaka I second that

lubbalots says:

If Steve jobs alive, Apple even bigger. MS innovative as well, but their slow to adopt is their downfall.

Smart purchase... Now develop some amazing but must-have (not vital) tech, and refuse Google and other Android OEMs licensing. Make the Pro Camera app something that consumers demand day in and day out, heck, let Firefox, BB, Sailfish and Ubuntu license it, but fall silent on iOS/Android.
