InstaWeather Pro has arrived for Windows Phone 8; log your current temp with a photo

InstaWeather Pro for Windows Phone 8

Today, the popular “weather documenting app” InstaWeather Pro has been released for Windows Phone 8 devices. We gave you a sneak peek of that app, which is coming from iOS and Android, back in July and now you can have it too.

InstaWeather Pro is one of a new class of popular social apps where you take a photo, presumably outside, and then overlay the current conditions and location info over it. The photo is then ideal for sharing to social networks so friends and family can see where you are—think of it like a virtual postcard.

InstaWeather Pro for Windows Phone 8

The app says it has the unique ability to share your creation directly with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and foursquare, though we were hard pressed to find that in this release. Instead, the app uses the default Share option for images, allowing you to hand it off to your other third party apps, including 6tagram (beta) or Instance.

InstaWeather Pro has improved substantially from our early look, as it feels more fluid and responsive than the beta version. That’s good news as the app does cost $0.99 with no free trial. That lack of a free trial is a bit of a letdown as we know many of you will simply look for an alternative, like the free Ciel.

Hopefully though the developers behind InstaWeather Pro will add a trial feature in an update. (We should note though that InstaWeather Pro costs $1.99 on iOS and Android, making the $0.99 price point a little easier to swallow for Windows Phone users).

You can pick up InstaWeather Pro here for Windows Phone 8 devices. $0.99, 7MB

Time for a test drive

DJCBS says:

I think I'll get this just to inflict revenge upon my Android friends who literally spammed Facebook with the photos of this damn app as if it was really interesting to see the weather in their area...=P

icyrock1 says:

Revenge is best served with a side dish of cold weather. *evil laugh*

joe_easton says:

We have it for a lower cost???? Wow, that is huge.  I think I will buy just to support devs moving to WP

I tested it. It is cool but on Lumia 920 it crushes if I want to use a previous shot pic. Need to fix it. All other functions, including use a pic shot with it, are ok.

Arsenic17 says:

Wait you can't use a previously taken photo?

RaphaelChaia says:

Yes you can, tested it today.

WPUser111 says:

Thanks daniel fr the video... Was waitng fr it..

SoloXCRacer says:

...and Bing Weather doesn't have a wide live tile. That should be a crime.

So just +1 then? 1 to the power of anything is still one :p

mohannad087 says:

Ya I know...one opinion...6 person's agree with me .so the answer is =+1^6 :)
Have a great day bro.

ajftl says:

Daniel why r u using a 925 when u have a 1020 ? Just curios. I have 920 925 and 1020 I'm in love with the 1020 camera. I think the 925 better looking device tho.

Arsenic17 says:

Yeah not that cool. Don't really like these apps. Anywhere I would want to use it I likely wouldn't have data reception. Like in the wilderness and such. Shame.

AgileHobo says:

Weather Tag Pro is a good alternative one. It supports both Windows Phone 7.x and 8. And it isn't limited to square pictures while it supports portrait and landscape ones, and square, of course.
The app comes with limited features trial version but you can unlock it with just $0.99. It can be found on the Windows Phone Store here

mbooks says:

Cool but people pay for this stuff?

schlubadub says:

Apparently! I don't get it either. I'd much rather see a post like "ermergherd it's so hot, it's like 40 degrees!!!" than a lame photo showing it's actually only 31.5 degrees :P How else can I point out it's not hot unless it's over 38 :P

Arsenic17 says:

Yeah and it aint cold until it is below -60. I hate cold posts for -20. Come on.

I waiting INSTAGRAM original not instaweather :'(

he_shark says:

I cannot believe how popular this is. And they say the British are boring cos all we do is talk about the weather. Are people so bored and desperate for attention these days that they think an app like this is cool? It sounds like a desperate idea for an app that the developers probably thought 50 people would use. I pity humanity sometimes.

Wow, that's a bit of an over-reaction. It's just an app, not a condemnation of the human race. Just turn to the news for that.

NIST says:

He's gonna love the Honey Boo boo app.

he_shark says:

Thanks Daniel, means a lot coming from you. Sure maybe a bit, but still it does seem a bit pointless and just goes to show how often this "app gap" is really not so important. It's quality not quantity that counts. Oh and I gave up readign or watching the news years ago, I think i'd have pressed the "nuke" button on the human race if I did that.
Have a lovely weekend WP peeps :-)

d4emend says:

Very nice! It works fine on 1020.

moc426 says:

Buggy, crashes, doesn't work 99% of the time. Gives error "photo was deleted", only managed to create an image with this once. Did you try the new version Daniel or are you still using beta?

Bought and using it on a Lumia 925. No issues so far. Takes images, hands off to other apps with no problems.

moc426 says:

Tried it on new image, it worked. It doesn't work for me on existing images. Thats where it keeps crashing and giving image is deleted error.

RaphaelChaia says:

Using it on my 920, works fine with existing images here.

uopjo6 says:

Could be working well only on GDR2 devices. Unlocked 920 here and the app crashes when trying to share. Which seems to be the case for others too based on reviews.

ajftl says:

No problem here 1020 works flawlessly

michail71 says:

I just WANT a good interactive radar! Not all this social networking weather junk that keeps coming out. :(

tk-093 says:

What do you mean by interactive radar?  The new Bing Weather app has animated radar.

michail71 says:

Not really, the Bing Weather app is just an animation.  There were several good radar apps on iOS and I haven't found anything that comes close on the WP platform yet.

gmfeld says:

What about MyRadar Ad Free? That works great, gives me everything I would want, layers, motion.

Bought it. It's pretty cool, dated design though, very iOS.

Doesn't work, screen flashes for a second and doesn't share, tried like 20 times.

ajftl says:

Try one more time.

Codellion says:

Great app, very nice! I posted a few days ago a similar application, but instead of sharing weather, Umbrella 8 allows to download images of Flickr's group 'Weather Project' . You can try the following link bit.ly/1exUyZM

Z3MN says:

Awesome app! Just downloaded it :)

KHMuhammad says:

This is just what I need...

Andy Stumpp says:

Awesome UI! Bought it.

phatboy66 says:

Wow I want this app!

ajftl says:

Thank u lorddddd

descabar says:

No free version/trial? I'll be sticking to Ciel. ;)

It's good seeing apps migrate from competing platforms. I bought it to support the developer.

ArgonNJ#CB says:

Crashes when you try to share the photo from the app on my Lumia 920.

blshvk says:

same here. taking a new picture or using a photo from the library crashes the app when trying to share.

And WP 7.8 ???

WPcentral needs forced more apps for 7.8 !!!

Yep keeps crashing on my 920 when trying to share, hope there's a bug fix soon

Jurgen Valks says:

Same Share crash on my 920...

ojo otter says:

Bought it, but crashes whenever I press share Why? Does it work with others and not some? Got it today.... :( Nokia lumia 520

I don't understand why anyone would make a paid app without a trial mode. It's a great feature... Use it. I always nope out of apps with no trial and I don't think I'm the only one.
