PSA: myTube hidden from the Store, but it’ll be back soon enough

myTube

We’ve had some isolated reports this morning that myTube, one of the more popular premium YouTube apps for Windows Phone, has gone missing in the Store.  With all the brouhaha between Microsoft and Google, it doesn’t take too long before people start wondering if a cease and desist is the cause of the app being pulled.

No worries, fellow YouTubers. The app was deliberately hidden due a bad XAP being accidently uploaded to the Store. The developer, Christopher Blackman, reached out to us to explain the situation.

“I made a pretty terrible mistake and uploaded the wrong XAP for myTube to the Store (version 1.3.0.2). lots of functionality in the app will be missing and I've decided to hide it from the Store. The biggest missing functionality will be the background audio feature, and support for 720p screens. I've submitted another update to fix it which should be certified in a few days.”

So what to do? If you haven’t updated, then don’t (though with the app hidden, you shouldn’t be able to) and if you did, you have two options:

  1. Wait until the updated XAP goes through; We’ll tell you and the app too will notify you when you open it (clever)
  2. Open the application bar menu and join the myTube beta, which is a fun thing to be a part of

So all in all, an inconvenience but no worries as myTube will be in action soon enough. Stay tuned.

PSA: myTube hidden from the Store, but it’ll be back soon enough

Mytube is a great app. Better than Metrotube. But avoid this app because it fills up the other storage like no other. In fact, it's so bad you have to factory reset.

Hmm could it be 8x specific? Whenever I use mytube for month, I wake up and see the other storage filled up and force me to factory reset. 3rd time I did that.

the app was in my notifications for updates this morning but it gives an error when trying to update (just as it should according to the article)

Same here, then I uninstalled it and couldn't put it back on. Oh well, guess I'll use metrotube or browser until then.

Hey FndLumia, send a beta request from the application bar menu and you'll get the background audio feature back today ;)

Actually, the incorrect XAP file I uploaded was the WP7 version of myTube. Not ready for release yet, but getting there :)

I think it's never coming back. But why use the browser when we have myTube, MetroTube, PrimeTube.

I really like myTube, i love it.

sidebar...  Daniel, What is that phone case that you've been showing off lately?  It looks like you've got a similar one for the 920 & 925. ??

Are you already using the beta?  I see it in my menu, very bottom.  Tap the menu icon to bring up the menu, scroll down, and it's at the bottom.

Idk...i don't think so. If I got "about" it doesn't say beta anywhere and the version number is 1.3.0. The last thing on my menu is "home".

Hey Darkgift, if you're on version 1.3.0.0 (slightly older update) the beta button should be on the about page. The about page has to load some info first before the beta button appears, so it should come up after a number of seconds. If it doesn't, let me know.
