Angry Birds Star Wars II

Angry Birds Star Wars II lands on the Store for Xbox Windows Phone a day early

Behold, young Padawans, as Angry Birds Star Wars II is now live on the Store for Windows Phone 8 users—and it’s even a day early from the official September 19 launch date (beating out iOS and Android). What is even more fantastic? Those with a Lumia 520 or other 512 MB devices can get in on the action too.

The game weighs in at 32 MB and will cost you 99 cents (with a free trial). The epic saga continues in the follow up to the original Angry Birds Star Wars game, and we have to admit, it’s looking very fresh.

Featuring excellent HD graphics optimized for Windows Phone 8 and even optional in-app purchases (yes, they’re not going away), Angry Birds Star Wars II should keep many of you busy while in class, at work or avoiding your significant other (hey, we all do it).

Angry Birds Star Wars II

So what’s new in version II? This edition of the game is focused on the god-awful prequel movies, but hey, that doesn’t mean it can’t be a fun game! It features the Pork Federation and you can even “Join the Pork Side” to play as “the fearsome Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine” and more. And yes, Darth Maul has his patented double-lightsaber, which should be a blast to use in this game.

That’s actually hella cool.

Angry Birds Star Wars II

You also get

  • 30+ PLAYABLE CHARACTERS! Our biggest line-up ever of playable characters – Yoda, pod-racing Anakin, Mace Windu, Jango Fett and many more!
  • BECOME A JEDI OR SITH MASTER! So many Bird and Pork Side levels to master, plus a bonus reward chapter and a ton of achievements to unlock!

Even though the Angry Birds thing is getting a bit old, we’re suckers for Star Wars tie ins, which is probably what Rovio is expecting. So yeah, instant purchase for us.

Angry Birds Star Wars II

For you, you can check out the trailer above to get an idea of the game or just head here to the Store to grab a free trial.

Early? With windows phone? AM I IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE? WHAT?

KKRLessey says:

iOS 7 eat your heart out!

K_lando says:

Yeah, I'll hold off on celebrating until I see Plants Vs Zombies 2 on my Lumia.

sholokov says:

It came out on IOS yesterday...confirmed by my colleague.

Marco Enxuto says:

Everyone is installing iOS7 which has a copied UI :P And we are getting this awesome game before them. :D

wookie301 says:

My friend just confirmed it came out for iphone yesterday. Just sent me a screenshot. Still, it's pretty close.

U be waking up tmr morning in a wolrd full of birds that needs anger

Rick Smits says:

Its like reading iPhone news!

osoalex says:

In the same universe where 'Where's my Water? 2' came to WP before Android.

baron1996 says:

Can anybody confirm what are they giving off in the free trial??

RafRol says:

Hence... a free trial!

rahul4aug says:

best part it came before ios and android. WIn!

DJCBS says:

It's also already available on Android.

walter1832 says:

It actually came out on BB first, but since no one owns one, no one noticed.

swizzlerz says:

It is the 19th somewhere on the earth right now.. Could this be why?

azaright says:

Yeah that Hameed Azar on the tips is me,thanks wpcentral

venom5150 says:

All over it! Thanks for the heads up.

azaright says:

Daniel btw this game released first on windows phone yeh

Awesome Xbox support, Rovio is doing a very fine job!

Jf.Vigor says:

Gonna have to disagree with you here Rubino, the prequels were not god awful. Just different

azaright says:

Daniel where's my water 2 game review please

It's in the mail. Don't worry if it's ticking...

walter1832 says:

Dan, you know the NSA just read this.  When you get home, check to see if there is a wifi for "Surveillance van #42".  If so, run!

drunkard says:

Please stay away from reviewing movies.

Jf.Vigor says:

I refuse to watch that, it'll ruin one of my fav movies U_U

clappenings says:

I waited 20 odd years to see Ep 3. Im fine with how it turned out.

fwaits says:

Episode 3 was decent, other than the slightly jarring turn Anakin takes going to the dark side.  Was just too sudden without enough to justify how fast and extreme it happened.
Back on topic: Yay WP getting a high profile game first!

Bob Shiska says:

Slightly jarring?
Anakin: Don't kill Mace!
Palpatine: Join the Dark Side!
Anakin: OK!
Ummm...yeah. Kinda killed the movie for me. Ep II, though, I quite liked outside the romance between Anakin and Padme, which was just as forced as the switch from light to dark.

Jas00555 says:

I think that if YOUR wife was going to die, you would give more than a "meh"

Robert Grant says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-one thinks the prequels were any good. Particularly Darth Vader's comedy shout at the end of the third one.

laserfloyd says:

EPIII was the best of the three and that's just because it was much darker and forboding.  Though the "noooooooo" at the end made me (and everyone else) cringe, lol.

nbolmer says:

They were terrible, and liking them makes you a terrible person.

Jf.Vigor says:

Humph, I'll be terrible but I love the entire star wars universe. From the old republic jedi/sith wars to the gungans giving Naboo personality to R2-D2 saving everyone's butts, to Lando being as smooth and cool as he is

I agree with you......but curse the Ewoks!!!

reb31 says:

Bought! Thanks!

Ratman826 says:

Humm...just don't get why all the series of angry birds are all named "angry birds"
only why for me to determine is by looking at the icon

Oxymoron428 says:

Wow... A game came out on windows phone FIRST?? Let's make a trend out of this lol!

sasukeluffy says:

And a high profile one ;)

Duduosf says:

Well, I'll just have to wait till it gets to the Brazilian store...

walter1832 says:

I can help set it up.....

Microsoft owns Nokia, and they just begin concentrating on their WP8 OS..

Thanks Microsoft..

I use to want Xbox Live enabled games, but not do much anymore. To me it just means games that if they have issues, will never be fixed.

sasukeluffy says:

Actually, rovio does update their games :)

Yes they do...still makes me weary.

Now if popcap could get that PvsZ 2 to my Lumia I'd be a happy man. Trying to resist playing on my fiancees iPad but its so dang hard!

Wake me up when there's an Angry Birds Star Trek.

Star Trek>Star Wars

Manny C says:

Never thought about that, that would be pretty cool!

nokiauser911 says:

Angry birds: revenge of pigs

navidee says:

Nice! So nice to get stuff on same day as ios and android!

erzhik says:

Top of the line game released first on WP before iOS and Android. Holy crap, snow storm is coming.

DJCBS says:

They also have it on Android. But still, it's good to see it released at the same time specially for an Xbox title.

Wow!  I was surprised when I told my Apple friends that I finally got Star Wars 2 thinking it's been out for Apple for a while.  Little to my surprise they said it's not out yet for Apple.  I thought they were joking.  Finally, got some bragging rights!

Yay, a non free to pay game!

tylerh1701 says:

Xbox enabled?  Sweet.  Maybe (just maybe) a glimmer of hope that the Xbox certification process for WP games has been re-evaluated and simplified.

Arsenic17 says:

Nah. I'm pretty sure Microsoft just kisses rovios arse to get their games.on WP. If not 99% of the world would complain about apps like they do with insta...

freshfelicio says:

walter1832 says:

...and I love you. There, I said it. Wut you gonna do about it.

freshfelicio says:

Wg824t says:

What about 7.8?

navidee says:

Since it supports 720p I'd say no. That being said, I'm glad my focus died and was able to upgrade to my 1020 last week. Loving WP8!

I love star wars and angry birds!

walter1832 says:

But do they love you? Think about it.

DJCBS says:

I don't even try these anymore, I straight up buy them. So glad they did release it a day earlier, specially being an Xbox game.

WPUser111 says:

Rovio n gameloft u r best

GearDoGi says:

Now it's also time for Zeptolab (Cut the Rope T.T ,Pudding Monsters, etc) and Halfbrick (Age of zombies,Monster dash, fish out of water etc.) to show us some love!
Also there are already hundreads of amazing indie games on the WP store that could be easily Xbox branded!!
Microsoft and Xbox must make moves like this now that are living a prosperity period!!!!
If you agree support my suggestion!

As for the game, already bought it to support Rovio that supports WP!!!
Easily the best Angry Birds Game!!!Great concept!

alky13 says:

Cant wait to buy it tomorrow when Ill get wifi!

RJ Priest says:

What an awesome surprise. I will show support by purchasing it after work.

willied says:

It's extremely good to see Rovio cares about WP, even if they got off to a slow start.

Sulslim says:

Hey, and where is "Angry Birds Space" in Store ???

GearDoGi says:

It's very sad to have devs to support our OS with top quality games (that also are powered with xbox live achievements)
and have a buggy OS that begins to overheat the after 10-20min of gameplay and cause a related massive battery consumption ~20-30%/hour!!!Issues like this need to be fixed ASAP!
It's very annoying!!Changed 2 HTC 8X and one Lumia 920 because of that and sadly nothing has changed! If anyone can help please contact me!I want to play games like this on my WP like i did on my iPhone 4s!!

jamsjordn says:

It is pretty damn awesome that we get this the same time as iOS and Android but hurry up Rovio and roll out Rovio accounts. I hate repeating levels on my phone and tablet.

KKRLessey says:

Oops wrong thread...

nkast says:

I am not sure I can take that much Star Wars.
Since Disney brought the rights they seem to try to milk as much money out of it, they already announce a THIRD trilogy!!!
I am sure the money is good but isn't ROVIO worried that this would somehow dilute its own IP?
DISCLAMER: I'm a Trekky!

allos autos says:

I'm not so sure Disney is to blame. I remember when the prequel trilogy came out. It was pretty much a cash grab for all involved. It just made the sting of having the movies being as awful as they are that much worse.

blackprince says:

How many Star Trek movies and tv series are there?

rikycaldeira says:

I'll be damned. A major release on par with the other two? What sorcery is this

Oh look, its Xbox certified and therefore worth my money :)

sashlon says:

Why don't I have ot on my Surface yet? Waiting...

jlynnm350z says:

I hate birds. . . .

danj210 says:

They mostly look like SW charactes this time!

Bob101910 says:

Almost done with the story levels. Little short (compared to other AB), but more levels are on the way. Rovio never disappoints with how much free content they add post launch. I'm not sure how they can top this game. So many characters with unique abilities. It's very fun.

danj210 says:

+1 I'm pretty amazed with the content and it does gave some good replay value. Just when I thought this was another dull AB. :)

RetroMan71 says:

The prequels weren't awful.. Just sayin'.. Will play this sometime if i can tear myself away from GTA V

caliborn says:

I guess you'll get to it in  December like me then...:-)

Does anyone know if it's compatible with telepods?

I read that as leopards. Double take. Move on.. :-S

ltjordan24 says:

This is great news. Hopefully, this will start a trend with game releases.

Ed Boland says:

Instant purchase for sure! Even though I've yet to finish the 1st one...

danj210 says:

I went back to the first one after playing some of the second... And the second is so much more awesome, I had no idea how cool and how many characters they added. Better sounds also.

masterdam95 says:

Fuck wp, why only wp8, wp7 still has nothing

Jazmac says:

WP7 is XP masterdam95. It was painfully obvious since MS left it to fend for itself after Mango and Joe Belfiore's slight of hand failed to attract the attention of developers. It got 7.8 which turned out to be nothing more than "cosmetic" and now its coolest days are behind it. It still works as well or better than most android devices, it just didn't get a date for the prom. I had to make a move to WP8 and you do too.

fiffreak99 says:

Can't wait for it to come out on web OS.

gary_dexter says:

Actually it was released on all platforms a day early...

Xanthurum says:

Anyone else experiencing the device getting really hot after 10-15 min of game play??? Feeling a little worried about this...

danj210 says:

It will get hot but it won't damage anything. If you have WiFi turned on you can turn off your data and that actually really does help, not only with the heat but with battery drain as well.

Craig Barnes says:

No mention of telepods support, no option in game? It was announced windows phone would support the telepods add ons and on the Hasbro website it also says windows phone is supported. Rather disappointed that this feature is not available like the other systems or is yet to be enabled?

DHallMuns says:

Way better than iOS!!! Wondering why I didn't switch to Windows sooner!!!

In android and ios its free, but we must pay. Why?

danj210 says:

Add my Xbox live, need some more leader board friends!! The420Dank

angelkontass says:

Why isn't this app available for wp7.8 this is very unfair! Make it available for windows phone 7.8 too!!!!

AriesDog says:

Any idea why the telepod toys aren't compatible with Windows Phone?
