Three frightening games coming to Xbox One, starting with Dead Rising 3

52

E3 2013 kept us all very busy last week, and this week we still have a few more games to discuss with you. The Xbox One lineup looks like it will cater to fans of a variety of genres – not just first-person shooters. Horror games should be especially well represented. The console launches with Dead Rising 3, an exclusive title from Capcom and Microsoft. The previous series entries all appeared on Xbox 360, with a port of the first game showing up on the Wii and both 2 and Off the Record gracing the Playstation 3 as well.

Shortly after launch we should also see D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die from Hidetaka Suehiro (creator of Deadly Premonition) and Microsoft.  D4 will be a thriller/mystery released via downloadable episodes. And in 2014, Japanese developer Tango Gameworks will team up with publishing giant Bethesda to release a pure horror game The Evil Within at retail.

Ting getting the HTC Tiara and mysterious Samsung device "mid to late" July

53

Ting is a wireless service provider here in the United States. Ting doesn’t subsidize the cost of smartphones and does that in order to avoid contracts for consumers. They operate their services via Sprint’s CDMA 3G, 4G, WiMAX and 4G LTE network. It looks like Ting is getting ready to jump on the Windows phone bandwagon according to a recent blog post and in doing so outs the HTC “Tiara” and another Samsung device. We last heard from Ting about a month ago where they reassured their support of Windows Phone.

Unofficial Vine app for Windows Phone, 6Sec, gets upload ability in latest beta

55

We told you about the unofficial Vine app called 6Sec and made by Rudy Huyn a few weeks ago. The app is currently in a private beta and progressing nicely with daily updates. The latest brought with it the much coveted upload ability, allowing those with a Windows Phone 8 device to finally create and share actual Vines with people.

The system is much like Instagraph in that it doesn’t “hack” any APIs but it does use a relay server to pass on your six second creation to Vine’s servers for posting. Rudy had to wait until he got the hardware to handle the process and today, along with an app update, it was all put together.

We tossed together a short video tour of the app’s current status, which you can take a peek at after the break...

Windows 8.1 screenshots leaked, redesigns showcased

94

Today a collection of screenshots, showcasing redesigns within key Windows 8.1 applications, were leaked online. The shots showcase changes in the Windows Store and Xbox Music, along with brand new apps including a calendar, alarm clock, and voice recorder.

The newly leaked store design showcases an application “shelf” with more upfront descriptions. The new UI introduces more text to the interface and while it is still inspired by Microsoft’s modern design, it doesn’t have the close-feeling connection to the Windows Start screen that it previously had.

Microsoft to pay out $100,000 to get developers coding for Windows Phone

147

We've heard this all before, developers skipping Windows Phone or not viewing it as worth the investment to develop an app. It's an issue Microsoft has had to battle against since the company originally launched Windows Phone 7 back in 2010, but we're seeing Redmond (and Nokia) pouring more funds and time into getting developers interested. Bloomberg is now reporting that Microsoft is paying developers up to $100,000 to get apps on Windows Phone 8.
