HTC HD7 hands-on [Windows Phone 7 launch]

2

The HTC HD7 on T-Mobile marks the largest of the new Windows Phone 7 devices -- and it's quickly grabbed a spot in our top five devices launched today. Let's start with the particulars:

  • 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor at 1GHz
  • Wifi: 802.11 b/g/n
  • GPS (and Telenav)
  • Quad-band GSM/AWS 3G
  • Dimensions: 4.8 inches by 2.7 inches by 0.44 inches
  • Multimedia kickstand (that might double as a bottle opener)
  • 5MP camera with autofocus and dual LED flash
  • FM radio
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
  • 16GB internal storage
Really, it was how thin the HD7 is that struck us the most. Sure, it's big. And it's bright. And the Windows Phone 7 OS flies on it. But for all that size and power, the phone is nice and then. Surprisingly so. We'll have more on this guy coming up. In the meantime, taste some pics after the break.

Sprint HTC 7 Pro coming in 2011!

8

Here it is folks.  Looks like HTC snuck in a little surprise as this is the so far unseen HTC 7 Pro, featuring that all too familiar and wonderful sliding (and tilting) keyboard and it's coming to Sprint this spring.

The device will reportedly feature 16GB of storage, has a 3.6" screen, presumably a 1Ghz processor. No confirmation on 4G, but we wouldn't doubt it.

Overall it's a solid device, with a great keyboard. This is the device many of us have been waiting for, so kudos to Sprint and HTC on this design.

Anyone else getting excited?

Windows Phone 7 devices added to Microsoft's website

0

As busy as we've been this morning this may be old news. Nonetheless, Microsoft has updated it's Windows Phone website to showcase all the Windows Phone 7 devices announced this morning.

And they all look really good.

Each phone is listed with specs, carrier information and the ability to compare the models side by side. Very similar to Google's phone page but with a more animated presentation.  Dare I say, less cluttered than the Android page in the same way that Windows Phone 7 is less cluttered than Android. Ahem.

The only thing missing is the "buy" link and it's only a matter of time before those are added.

Hands on with Samsung Focus & Super AMOLED

1

Turns out the Samsung Focus was not all about the camera, but instead the gorgeous Super AMOLED screen that's part of that whole Galaxy S series.

The phone is a stunner, being one fo the thinnest phones around at 9mm and also being extremely light. The phone is of course coming to AT&T (more info here)

Couple more shots after the break, more later!

Hey, look! It's Windows Phone update!

Hey, look! It's Windows Phone update!

The Windows Update feature on Windows Mobile 5-6.5 was, to put it mildly, a pretty cruel joke. Always sitting there, teasing you, but not once did it every bring a blessed update.

So we have to show you Windows Phone 7's update screen. And what's more, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore made a big deal about an update coming in the early part of 2011 that will bring copy and paste to Windows Phone. And every Windows Phone will receive the update. So there it is, folks. Stare at it long enough, and it will eventually work. We hope.

LG Quantum hands-on [Windows Phone 7 launch]

LG Quantum hands-on [Windows Phone 7 launch]

The LG Quantum is the lone QWERTY slider on AT&T's initial Windows Phone 7 lineup. We dare say it feels a tad on the cheap side, but that's not really a fair assessment. The keys are nice and clicky, and very well space. It helps that it's only a four-row keyboard and they're not cramming too many in one space. The slider mechanism is stiff, but not too stiff, and has a good spring to it.

The 3.8-inch screen is a dandy. Not as bright as Super AMOLED that you'll see on the Samsung phones, but for most people (like 99 percent of them) it'll be more than adequate thanks to its size.

More pics after the break.

First Look: GoVoice for Windows Phone 7 (Google Voice)

2

Though it's not official Google software, a 3rd party company has stepped forth to make a sweet Google Voice app for Windows Phone 7, priced at $2.99.

As far as we can tell, this app allows you access to everything: free SMS, voice calls, voicemail, etc.

As a Google Voice user ourselves, we're quite excited about this app being readily available in the coming weeks.

More shots after the jump!

Microsoft ending bad phone behavior with Windows Phone 7

1

Microsoft hopes to end awkward momements created by smartphone with the release of Windows Phone 7. The company has released a humorous video illustrating the behavior they hope to stop.

In a press release, Microsoft's Corporate VP of Mobile Communications Todd Peters states, "We love smartphones, and as a culture we love smartphones. But for all their success, Microsoft thinks there is a better smartphone experience. We noticed people going through their day with their heads down, constantly opening and closing applications, sorting, texting and searching for things. By designing a better way to organize all that information Windows Phone 7 helps people get to the stuff that is most important to them — easier and faster."

While the commercial pokes fun at those buried in their smartphone, we've all seen similar in real life. Heck, we all have probably been in similar situations ourselves. Anything in the commercial look familiar?

First look: IMDB on Windows Phone 7

One of the surprises today was the inclusion of the popular movie site IMDB.com. The standalone app is extremly fast, smooth and chalk full of movie info goodness.

Here are a couple of shots of that app in action after the break. More to come later!

HTC Surround hands-on; Updated with Video! [Windows Phone 7 launch]

9

Here we go, folks, with the first hands-on from the craziest phone of AT&T's initial Windows Phone 7 launch -- the HTC Surround. Those are dual Dolby-capable speakers you see there, flanked by a 3.8-inch touchscreen. It's tough to get a gauge on how the speakers actually sound when you're in a big space with a few hundred people, so we're going to have to take their words for it at the moment.

A few more pics after the break, and we'll be back with more later.

Update: Want video? We got it: check out two videos showing off the Surround's video playing capabilities and gaming chops.

U-verse TV coming to Windows Phone 7, Xbox

2

AT&T is bringing another option for video watching on Windows Phone 7 beyond Zune videos: U-verse for watching television. It will be free to current U-verse customers, but non-customers can still get in on the action for $9.99 a month. It will be available sometime next month, too!

In the demo today, Microsoft showed searching for shows and viewing them and it all looked quite good and consistent with the Windows Phone 7 Metro UI.

Oh yeah, and it's coming to Xbox too - though you definitely need to be a U-verse customer to take advantage of that option.
