For those who like wireless gadgets, any collection is incomplete without a wireless stereo headset. While there is a good selection of these headsets out there, it seems as if only a handful can double as a hands-free solution for your Bluetooth enabled phone. One such hybrid is Samsung

Motorola Launches Q11 Officially, Comes in December

0

Motorla has officially launched the Q11 with the specs that we expected:

  • Talk and Standby Time: 450 minutes / 195 hours
  • Bands/Modes: Quad-band GPRS/EDGE Class 10
  • Camera: 3MP Fixed Focus, LED Flash, 8x Zoom
  • Memory: 128MB Flash, 64 MB RAM, optional microSD card up to 32GB
  • Weight: 115g
  • Dimensions: 117x64x11.7 mm
  • Battery: 1170 mAH
  • MicroUSB/USB 1.1, Bluetooth Class 1 v2.1
  • Display: 2.4“ 320 x 240 TFT 262K
  • GPS and aGPS
  • Wifi: 802.11b/g4
  • Chipset: LTE + Intel Bulverde, Freescale ARM 7 LTE
  • Windows Mobile 6.1

One new bit that's pretty interesting to see: ”WAP 2.2 / HTML / Pocket IE 6“ for the browser, which may mean the Q11 will be the first devices released with the new IE6 browser for Windows Mobile pre-installed.

It will hit in December, though pricing and availability are unknown. It's completely unclear whether or not AT&T will carry this (our hunch is that it's only 25% likely), but it does seem be a lock for Brazil.

We can't say we'd recommend it over a Q9h right now unless you're really hard-up for WiFi since this device drops 3G. Truth be told, we're still digging the not-so-ballyhooed improvements in the Silver Q9h.

Prices set for the AT&T Epix and Fuze?

Prices set for the AT&T Epix and Fuze?

Engadget Mobile is reporting that it looks like AT&T has set the prices of the Samsung Epix at $199.99 after rebates and the Fuze at $299.99. Still no hard dates on when these two phones are due to hit the shelves.

Not much more to say, folks, except that now you know how much you're going to need to save if you're planning on re-upping a contract with AT&T for either one of these.

Samsung i770 Surfaces

Samsung i770 Surfaces

We've seen a few shots of the Samsung i770, but none as good as the above, posted at HoFo [via BGR]. The i770 looks to replace the awkward i760 by ditching the slider and going to a front-facing QWERTY. Palm had better try to get the Treo 800w released on Verizon on October 12th as previously rumored, because there's a lot of pent-up demand for a front-facing QWERTY WinMo smartphone on Verizon. This i770 looks to match the Treo 800w on pretty much every feature and will better it on thinness. One other way it will better the Treo 800w: it's a world-phone -- you can slap a SIM in there for use overseas.

Samsung is also doggedly pursuing their strategy of using the mini-mouse-pad in place of a standard D-Pad, though we hold out hope that the big silver circle surrounding it is clickable. We're doubting it, though, as it sounds like there's a switch to toggle the different pad modes between “swipe to scroll” and “mouse.”

AT&T Pantech Duo Gets 6.1

AT&T Pantech Duo Gets 6.1

The Duo of Pantech Duo owners (get it?) can finally rejoice because Microsoft is blessing them with 6.1. Don't remember the Duo? We forgive you, but recommend you check out the dual-slider action to get a feel for how its pending replacement will work.

We're actually a little surprised to see this dual slider get a 6.1 update, not that we're complaining. We sorta thought the new rule was that if a replacement is imminent, 6.1 wouldn't be. Isn't that the lesson we learned from the Treo 750, whose promised WM6.1 update is nowhere in sight? (Or, hopefully, the 750's WM6 download is being taken down to make way for it).

We digress. The new 6.1 is available through a "quick" download weighing in at 90Mbytes and as with all updates, make sure you back up all your info before you proceed. Looks like AT&T is actually following the road map they had set out.

Big thanks to Bla1ze for the tip!

BlackBerry Storm Announced

BlackBerry Storm Announced

The big news in smartphone land today is clearly the official announcement of the BlackBerry Storm. Our pals at CrackBerry.com have the full rundown of all you need to know. Here's the short version:

It's a touchscreen BlackBerry

Right now you're thinking “Uh, yeah, we knew that.” Point is: despite the large capacitive screen and surprisingly easy typing, there's nothing else really new here. It's is the BBOS that we've never grown fond of here at WMExperts, it has a relatively ho-hum form factor, oh, and it's locked down to Verizon only. It's still a BlackBerry underneath that touchscreen, for good or ill.

...All of which isn't to say we don't think it's a Big Deal and won't pick up some possibly deserved kudos, just we're just saying that it doesn't seem like the breakout, game-changing device some are hoping to come out of Waterloo. Or maybe we're just displacing some bitterness about not being able to get the touchscreen device of our dreams here in the US. You never know, we're not psychologists.

Firefox Mobile alpha coming 'in a few weeks'

0

A few weeks ago we paid little lip service to a rumor that Firefox Mobile wouldn't see the light of day until 2010. And it appears we were right, with Mozilla CEOJohn Lilly says "we'll see some alphas in a few weeks."

While that doesn't mean we'll be getting our hands on Firefox Mobile anytime soon (think alpha releases, then beta releases, then final product), it's still a lot better than that 2010 report. So look out, Opera and Skyfire. There's going to be a little more competition.

Check out the whole Q&A with Mozilla's CEO over at LinuxInsider. [Via Unwired View & Gizmodo]

Motorola Q11: 3G not making the cut?

Our friends over at WmPoweruser.com have discovered more details on the Motorola Q11. While Motorola is maintaining several features of the Q line such as the larger keypad, thin form factor and quality screen, they have apparently has cut 3G connectivity from the feature list. It is reported that Motorola has added Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS with turn-by-turn software, and a 3mp camera.

The lack of 3G might jeopardize the chances of the Q11 hitting AT&T

Touch HD NOT Coming to the US!

HTC just broke the horrible news via twitter:

sad news, US. we looked into it- by the time we could bring Touch HD to the states, it would be old news. we do have other cool stuff coming

In other words, the Touch HD with its gigantic screen, 3.5 mm headset jack, and general iPhone-challenging form factor is going to be import-only for the US and, on top of that, it's likely never to see the 3G bands used by AT&T. The dream, our friends, is officially dead on this side of the pond. At least the import of the non-3G-compatible version will be legal by dint of the recent FCC approval. HTC's grand tradition of release CDMA versions of most of their stuff here also has hit quite the speedbump, too.

...Of course, the 'other cool stuff' intrigues us, but it's not much consolation just now. Meanwhile, you'll have to excuse us while we wither under the jibes of our iPhone-toting friends in the US.

(side note: comments a little broken right now, if you head to the forums and log in, you'll be able to comment. Alternately, just go here. Update: Comments Fixed)
