Crunchyroll for Windows Phone updated allowing guests to use the app

WP Central

We previously covered the Crunchyroll Windows Phone app when it was released last month, but the app has been recently updated that enables guest access. When the app was released access was restricted unless you were in possession of a premium account, or enabled the free trial. The service allows users to watch over 600 popular anime shows.

So what shows are available on Crunchyroll (website)? The likes of Naruto Shippuden, Bleach, Shugo Chara!, Blue Exorcist, Gintama, Fate/Zero, Space Brothers, The World God Only Knows, and Bodacious Space Pirates. As mentioned above, this latest update enables access to those who don't have a premium account. To enjoy the full experience of the service, one is required to kick off membership.

Advantages of premium membership:

  • Watch new episodes 1-hour after airing in Japan
  • Watch over 3G and 4G network
  • No adverts
  • Access to 720p HD and DVD quality videos (1080p on newer series) on the website, crunchyroll.com

You can download Crunchyroll from the Marketplace for free. When launching the app, you can select to start a free trial, log in or test the app for free.

Thanks Elisha for the tip!

Download link is broken

720p and HD better make sure to be on WiFi otherwise you'll burn through a data cap worse than a forest on fire.

So I haven't used Crunchyroll since way before they partnered up with Japanese TV broadcasters and actually started providing "legit" content, do I have to have a Premium membership to view stuff or are there also free content?

You watch shows for free on the website, but for extra benefits (HD viewing, watch on your phone, etc.) you'll have to be a premium member

I like crunchyroll :)

this is better.  This is more in parity with the Roku app in that if you don't have a premium membership you can suffer through the commercials and still watch whatever.
