Is HTC having a fire sale? Maybe. All we know is their solid and dapper HTC 8X Windows Phone is being offered via Groupon for a very reasonable $349 with free shipping. That’s not for an AT&T version but a fully unlocked one with LTE bands (though those won’t work on AT&T).

  • HSPA: 850/900/1900/2100

Great deal...to buy or not to buy...

16 GB, you gonna need all of that for "other storage" alone. Have fun.

IceDree says:

Its funny , I've 2GB of others , a Hundred + apps , photos & lots of music ob my 16GB 8X & i still have 7GB of free space !

rodneyej says:

Forget that!! I know WPC already touched on this, but man this Disqus app is awesome!! You guys have to get Disqus and sign up.. It lets you troll on all the iDroid haters!! Lol! I love standing up for WP, or just butting in on some GS4 discussion with unrelated WP jiber jaber.. So if you're a WP lover/supporter/boaster/fanboy/troll like me get Disqus!! Did I mention that its cool, and Disqus is exclusive to WP devices??

blackhawk556 says:

No lte for att kills it for me

navidee says:

What you said...

CJ Thunder says:

Ditto, otherwise I would have purchased it right now. Guess I can wait till my contract is up.

tallgeese says:

Time to consider T-Mobile if it meets your service needs

I am on AT&T and have LTE...

YetiBoney says:

That's because you have an AT&T branded phone - this particular unlocked 8X doesn't support AT&T's LTE band, which is specific to AT&T.

Etios says:

Its Bill of Materials(BOM) should have come down a lot by now as Snapdragon S4 and 720P screens are old specs now. So no, its not a firesale.

My impression is different. The AT&T version recently went on sale on an eBay offer. It appears HTC has too much stock and is now trying to offload. It's not coincidental that GDR2 Windows Phone 8 devices are coming around summer time/BUILD nor that 8X sales have grabbed a lot less headlines.

Ordeith says:

It would help if htc had even half the commitment level to WP as Nokia. Or even as much as HTC has to Android.

AngryNil says:

Do you think that the 8X's relatively lacklustre sales makes the device is in danger of not receiving OS updates, or would Microsoft have required HTC to fully support its signature line?

IceDree says:

I've been receiving an Update Notification on my 8X for about 2 weeks now

jabz9 says:

Will it work for T-Mobile LTE?

jcinc says:

I'd like to know this as well

jgbstetson says:

Tmo lte is 1700/2100 I believe. So, no.

Curtieson says:

From what I can find, you are correct. It is 1700 and 2100.

larspassic says:

Keep in mind that in some areas T-Mobile is utilizing the At&t freqs for its "4G" so in those areas this device should do fine.

Well, ironically I just unlocked my 8x from Verizon to Tmobile.. And I barely get 3G. But then again I haven't been out much since its been unlocked. I actually need some help from someone who knows about the network APN's because I can't send pictures..

Chill510 says:

I have the att 8x unlocked on Tmo...and I have some settings that work on mine. I can send them to you to check it they for you.

peterfares says:

It is impossible to get MMS working on the Verizon 8X if you're not on Verizon. They removed the menu in the Cellular settings where you can configure an MMS APN and the HTC Connection Setup app doesn't work on the Verizon 8X. Unless WP8 gets rooted or Verizon or HTC change something then you're SOL.

slyjr2 says:

I bought mine for this same price through a local dealer in ATL 3 months ago. Brand new! Can't put it down. Lol

Either way Groupon reaches a ton of people!!! Its great to at least see it being advertised. Between the Groupon sale and the HSN premiere, its great to see it publicized. :)

boovish says:

That's as good a deal as mobile retarded prepaid plans

schlubadub says:

Even if the phone is free a contract plan is minimum over 24 months: $80 x 24 = $1,920. If I bought this with my current prepaid plan (incl data): $349 + ($30 x 24) = $1,069. Yeah, saving $851 is really "retarded".

kj_wp says:

Lol.. agreed! The math is straight forward. And since LTE isn't supported you can sign up for a standard 3G plan.

I rather get a surface rt

Two questions that are probably stupid because I am a novice:
1. Will this work on Verizon?
2. Will activating it use my upgrade?
As far as the second one goes, I have a feeling it will not use it, but someone confirming this would be awesome. =)
Edit: I think I found my answer actually. Says unlocked to work with any GSm carrier. God its times like these that I hate being with Verizon.

pankaj981 says:

I am trying to sell mine on verizon

jcagga says:

Verizon version is the ultimate global version. It has sim card too and only 8x with wirelesss charging

jdandison says:

I think this one is GSM only, but activating a phone shouldn't burn your upgrade. Only when you purchase at a subsidized price would it do that. If you're really worried, just call Verizon and ask them. Make sure you tell them this is activation only, no plan change or anything, then they'll try to reup your contract.

Everybody hurry up and get ur door stop htc

Zulfigar says:

A life changing comment here!!! Yay!

paras chugh says:

'Matte finish won't attract animals who like shiny things' thats a funny spec.....then why would samsung advertise the s3 as designed for humans :D

PeltFrelken says:

So, which US carriers will this work for?

ceraf says:

Is this available in Canada? Or US only?

That is a good deal but 2 days ago i bought my Samsung ATIV S and i ain't looking back.

Kellzea says:

What's the ativ like? I was tempted, but chose the 920 instead.

Andr3sfc says:

Well done. The Ativ S is a fine device, but you wouldn't get from Samsung nowhere near the same level of support that you get with Nokia.

I agree. However Nokia is always behind when it comes to screen size and coming from the SGS3 the ATIV S was my only option. The ATIV S uses T-Mobile 2G, 3G and HSPA+ services, so in that regard im quite happy.

xirsteon says:

this is not true. the ativ doesnt have tmobile aws 3g frequencies.... only works on edge

For sample, here's a Roger ativ Spec

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100

Afaik, a device must have support both 1700 and 2100 frequencies to work on tmob 3/4g networks.

You sir are correct, except the ATIV S has several versions...one version uses 1700 n 2100 go to www.gsmnation.com...you're welcome :)

peterfares says:

Unfortunately the Rogers site lists the specs incorrectly. The canadian ATIV S (all of them) ONLY has ONE LTE Band, and that is Band 4. Works perfectly with T-Mobile's network (it also supports 1700MHz AWS 3G) but won't get LTE on most of AT&T.

Oh yeah.... Like with Jags... You need two Nokia, to be sure one works.

TJWINS says:

I would buy Nokia only but that's just me.

dogfish54 says:

I bought a lumia 920 at launch for $450 with the free charging plate. This is an OK deal, but not that exciting.

chucky78 says:

If this was the AWS version I might consider it for the Wife but a part of me says I know better to stick with Nokia.

SK_Johnson says:

If this was AWS for HSPA+, I don't know if I could resist. This despite my awful experience with the HD7 antenna. Great price and it looks like the hardware is well made this time.

shawnp582 says:

Will it at least get HSPA?

jlynnm350z says:

I wouldn't pay 2 cents for one of those abysmal phones. HTC gives absolutely ZERO support. Ask anyone who has an HTC.

Flagz says:

Att helped me set up unlocked APNs for my Fiances 8X, and replaced my phone within 3days due to loss of signal. They support me well minus the App Support. Plus I got a few updates fairly quickly.

schlubadub says:

Lots of free apps and regular updates for my HD7... I have no problem with HTC at all. Sure they're not the same level as Nokia, but they're still better than Samsung, LG, Dell etc. My phone is still awesome after 2+ years, no issues.

SK_Johnson says:

No issues, except that the HD7 has an inherently faulty antenna... I've had mine since launch day and I've come to hate it over the last 2.5 years. Depending on where I hold it, I'll take a severe hit to either my cell signal or wifi.
Oh well, if I've learned anything from the experience, it's to research the hell out of my next phone purchase. $600 is too much to throw away on bad hardware.

schlubadub says:

I've never had such an issue, nor have 3 other people I know with HD7's. Two are the same model as mine (Telstra Australia model T9296) while the 3rd was imported from Canada (Rogers branded). I use mine on Vodafone, the first 2 people are on Telstra and the 3rd is on Optus.
Perhaps it's an issue with your particular carrier, the models that came out in the US, or maybe you just got a dud phone!
My only grievance hardware-wise is that the volume button/rocker is sometimes very hard to press. I tested the volume controls on the 8X and they are vastly improved... It's just a shame that the 8X has similar specs to the HD7 - if it had 32 GB and/or microSD I would've bought it!

SK_Johnson says:

The antenna issue was with the original version that was sold on T-Mobile. Google "HD7 antenna issues" and you'll see all the complaints. There are even youtube videos showing the attenuation issues. By the time they got around to releasing the HD7s with the better screen, all was well. Cold comfort for the early adopters though.

You can ask me...Their customer service was wonderful! I believe they're open till 12/1am EST and they were both helpful and polite! Also, I have received regular updates and ZERO issues so far! :)

I get 15 down and 6 up on T-Mobile. Chicago area. And it gets HSPA+.

tone84 says:

Only 349$ lol

schlubadub says:

It's one of the cheapest mid-to-top range phones on the market? 920 is still $600+

The 8X is a very good WP8, boots a bit slowly but they run rather trouble free.

Gunbust3r says:

With the Nokia 521 coming in at $150 the 8X needs to get down to $250...

Spedez says:

No wonder. HTC is so busy concentrating their android phones that they have totally forgotten their WP lineup. Good luck waiting updates for this thing.

schlubadub says:

Any lack of updates is due to AT&T - if you're with any other carrier the updates come out quickly.

Do you actually have one? If so, you should have received at least two updates unless your phone already came with updated software.

It is a beautiful phone.

IceDree says:

That's a great price ! Unfortunately i already got one :)

kj_wp says:

Ok so after all those comments, WHATS THE BEST DEAL???!!!

1. Clove UK has HTC 8X dim free, unlocked, unbranded for $229£ ($350 US), NO LTE
2. This group deals which adds LTE not supported in US
3. Samsung ATiV S for $309 € amazon.de

I have to agree that htc phone support is much less than Nokia. I'm referring to htc post release support not live tech support. Let's hope htc supports all the wp8 upgrades. I also am worried that the unbranded phones get the least amount of support because seems that branded phones sell much more. As far as live tech support (in US) its probably the best I know. Live person 12+ hours Daily.

The international 8X works great, HTC is constantly adding little updates. It is less complex than the 920, so it has less problems.

weetigo says:

HTC 8S was also recently discounted to $149 outright on Virgin Mobile Canada from its launch price of $289.  Asked the retailer if the device was being discontinued, but they weren't aware of it.

Luke Morris says:

I have the Ativ S but if i could choose another WP it would be the Lumia range over HTC. I'm gonna wait for the next batch of WP to enter the market the ones with 1080P display and Quad Cores. :)

MrUniq says:

I like mine...on Verizon though. People do have a point...Nokia software and cardsupport makes other manufacturers look silly.

ricardios says:

I love this phone. Bought mine for $275 on Craigslist used. $350 is a great price for new unlocked version

blackhorse6 says:

No American LTE makes this a deal killer

It has HSPA+ it seems but with the more power efficient LTE chipset. Not a bad deal.
