Deal Alert: T-Mobile no-contract Lumia 521 for just $69 on Amazon

We love deals around these parts and we know you do too. While the Lumia 520 has been making all the headlines with its market share and low price, its T-Mobile brother, the Lumia 521, sits on the sideline. While the Lumia 521 has always been affordable, we haven’t seen it at the $69 price point just yet.

Amazon.com is selling the Lumia 521 sans contract for just $69 with free shipping and a one-year warranty. If you have Prime, you can have it by Monday, if you order now. That’s a heck of a low price for a really good phone, especially if you need a backup or just want to experiment with the Windows Phone 8 OS.

The Lumia 521 shares the same specs as the Lumia 520, which includes a 4-inch 800x480 display, 5 MP camera, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage (with micro SD expansion). The device comes in matte-white and is slight taller than the Lumia 520.

If you use it on T-Mobile US, you can even hook it up with Wi-Fi calling, which uses any US-based internet connection to make and receive calls—it’s a really sweet feature and makes up for T-Mobile’s less than ample cellular coverage.

Head to Amazon.com to see the deal. US only. Read our full review of the Lumia 521.

Is it unlocked?

I *think* after 40 days of service...but not OOB

milkybuet says:

That is correct.

I recently got the Lumia 520 for the same price on amazon as well.  Pretty solid little windows phone.  Especially for a no contract smartphone.

T-mobile ruined design with its logo -_-

drozdpatrick says:

Nah, its the ONLY logo I'd sport on my 5 series phone.

Its just not worth it. I switched my 4 lines to T-Mo, all with this phone. Not sure if it was the phone or their network, but nothing worked. MMS doesn't work, WiFi calling doesn't work, and I got no signal anywhere in WA unless I was standing outside in downtown Seattle. I wanted to like T-Mo and this phone, but you get what you pay for in this case.

wpguy says:

Sounds like an issue with WiFI Calling. First, MMS does not work over WiFi Calling. Second, WiFi Calling isn't perfect. On my 925 I have found it works best to turn off WiFi Calling and then toggle airplane mode when switching to regular cell service. Otherwise, sometimes the phone acts like there is no cell signal even if the cell status indicator shows otherwise.

My friend had issues with the Tmobile Wifi calling app too. He just disabled it. Hope Tmobile fix their app.

I respectfully call "bull" on your "I got no signal anywhere in WA" line.  Something is up with your phones and/or account then.  Perhaps the sim cards need updating.  I have three lines on TMO and in Seattle and have zero issues with MMS or coverage in the metro area or in the I-5 corridor.  I even get coverage on the ferry rides to Bainbridge and Bremerton.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure it was just T-Mobile coverage, I can be spotty , depending on where one is located.

I had a secondary phone, primary is on Sprint, when I lived in South Texas, excellent T-mobile coverage down there. However, when I moved to Fort Worth I had to drop T-mobile because I got no bars and no service whatsoever.

Next week I move back to San Antonio and have picked up the Nokia 521 to once again have great T-Mobile service for under $35 a month.

Most of these I've seen didn't have the T-Mobile brandings. Awesome phone for the price. Definitely an awesome backup phone or overall phone use if you don't have a need for front facing camera or LED flash for camera.

Have there been any deals for the MetroPCS version?

Lumia 520 - $59.99 @ the Microsoft Store.  Out of stock online, at least that's what it shows right now.

Aside from asking for a code from T-Mobile, is there another way to unlock this phone? Was planning to send it to someone outside the US, where it's perfectly legal to do so.

Holy crap, that's a steal! I'm tempted to grab one of these even though I have my Rogers 920. Wi-Fi Calling would be a good feature to have, and of course, my 920 doesn't get that. Nothing wrong with having a backup or three.

ithinkurdumb says:

Does Wi-Fi Calling requires a US-based Wi-Fi connection (a US IP)?

This is from T-Mobile support forum:

The following is what you can expect with wi-fi calling:

  • Roaming information
    • Calls made from the US to international numbers (subject to international rates)
    • Calls made from outside the US to US numbers (not charged roaming)
    • Calls made from outside the US to international numbers (subject to international rates, but not charged roaming)

Thinking about picking it up and use it as an alternative for my 920 when abroad.

Gotta love it. I go to my best buy store in south jersey. Not one windows phone on display. I wanted to see a 1520. The douche bag sales rep says why do you want that? Really?? I've gone through 2 iPhones. 3 androids, a Lumia 900, now 920. Looking to get a phablet and the dude tries to shove a note 3 down my throat.

Not surprised, at all.

Not completely related comment: Excited to find out if and when T-Mobile will roll out Nokia Black. Maybe they are waiting for WP8.1 to package it all together??? Hmmmm....

dante501 says:

Actually the 521 is back up to almost 100 dollars again. The 520 att is still 69 on Amazon.

ltjordan24 says:

I wonder if $50-$70 is going to be the new price point for the 520/521 since the 525 is right around the corner.
