Deal alert: Nokia Lumia 1020 (AT&T) for $49 at Amazon

Nokia Lumia 1020

The Nokia Lumia 1020 was launched with a $299 price tag with contract back in July. You can get it now at Amazon for just $49. To make this deal even sweeter, AT&T is also offering a $100 bill credit. It almost feels like they’re paying you to get this phone.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 features a 41-megapixel Pureview camera, 4.5-inch AMOLED screen, 32GB of internal memory, 2GB of RAM, and a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. It is available in yellowblack and white. Check out our full review for more details.

We’re not sure how long this deal lasts, or if the price point will go even lower. Are you taking advantage of this deal? Let us know in the comments!

You can and have been able to get it for 97¢ at WalMart...

Cool, but I'm waiting for the Lumia 930, which is basically a Lumia Icon with a different design, and having microSD.

RaRa85 says:

It must be for T-Mobile if it's true and it must be mine! It must be.:)

Usually most Lumias that are released globally come to AT&T, T-Mobile, or both. I hope both, but rather have it exclusive to AT&T in the US because I'm with them. :)

Is this a confirmed phone or just something you hope happens?

I'm hoping and pretty confident it will.

avigyan says:

Only if I lived in the US&A! They get phones for almost zero money! The 1020 costs north of 40K here in India. And that's friggin costly. -_-

jeffro02 says:

But, you must remember, that these subsidized prices all come with a 2 year contract. The monthly payments are then higher to repay the initial cost of the phone.

avigyan says:

But monthly is better than having to pay all together, isn't it so? Just asking....I dunno.

Charles Wang says:

It depends on what other options you have. If your carrier's BYO device prices are really expensive any way, then getting the handset subsidised is better. Most of the rest of the world however are leaning towards less subsidies, ie, I can buy outright, and pay less over 24 month.

Aashish13 says:

For such things we need Verizon here in India not Vodafone or Ideas

Etios says:

It is really a terrible deal, can't you calculate?? paying 3k rupees now and another 1.2-1.5 Lakhs rupees as 2 year contract is much more expensive than buying one at 40K unlocked and then paying cheap prepaid plans every month.

sarim_xyz says:

These phones are on contract, and they cost much more than buying an off contract device. It just looks appealing to get a 1020 for $49, but you end up paying a lot of money in your monthly bill..and not to forget you're bound into a contract!

Etios says:

+1000, these young kids in India are not able to grasp the concept of Contract-bound locked phones wherein you pay much more than buying an unlocked phone and going for cheap prepaid plans. They just go crazy looking at $50-$100 phone price and don't know that they have to pay the $2400 contract price in 2 years which comes out much more expensive.

avigyan says:

But it is only due to these contracts that people in those countries get to sport the latest high-end devices all the time.

I think you guys are speaking in assumptions.

You have no idea how much you pay monthly (or during your contract) because the carriers do not itemize what you are paying and they have never divulged that amount publicly. Could be $5 extra a month, could be $30 extra. No one knows.

Now, the 'upgrade anytime' plans from Verizon and AT&T are much more expensive and can be partially calculated because they have released some numbers on those programs. With Verizon, you almost pay for your phone twice.

Ordeith says:

There are new ways to tell:  T-Mobile breaks the costs out now, the plan and phone costs are seperate line items.

AT&T has AIO doing the BYOD thing.  AIO plans are $50/month for 2.5G 4g/unlimited 3g data, unlimited talk, and unlimited texts.  A similar plan on AT&T proper comes in at $95.

Hope that on contract Lumia is worth an extra $1080.

Well, yeah, they ARE paying you to upgrade to this phone.  If you are a Windows Phone fan and have an upgrade coming, I can hardly think of a better choice.

Dre325 says:

I can think of a better choice: wait a month and see what is announced for hardware with WP8.1 rather than buying something that may be obsolete soon due to the next flagship camera phone with possibly gesture or other hardware specific 8.1 support. Not interested at the moment.

Charles Wang says:

You can buy it outright in Australia from Harvey Norman now for $AU588. That's including 10% GST, so if you purhcase from overseas, I imagine you can get it for $AU534, which at current exchange rates, is about $US478. That's a pretty good deal.

StuBeck says:

You can buy them used in great condition for about $300-$350 most of the time. I would personally wait a month before buying to see what comes out at build. Buying a six month phone, based on a 15 month old phone for nearly full price isn't something I'm interested in, even though I'd love to upgrade from my 920.

Aashish13 says:

If such deal was in India ppl would have gone crazy for this

Etios says:

Why will anybody go crazy for such a deal in India? paying 3k rupees now and another 1.2-1.5 Lakhs as 2 year contract is much more expensive than buying one at 40K unlocked and then paying cheap prepaid plans every month.

thundr51 says:

We're going to see a lot of deals for "current" gen phones since the "next" gen phones are basically just around the corner.  It's going to be tough to wait it out, but hopefully it'll be worth it.

andy21andy says:

Not taking the deal because I already have that brick of a phone

damo579 says:

That's cool. I'm getting a warranty replacement 1020 tomorrow. I've gone through 4 Lumia 920s from them so they are giving me a 1020 in its place. I hope it works properly..... Oh and it is yellow.

Aashish13 says:

After 4 lumias youre getting 1020 from nokia care.

damo579 says:

No warranty dept from at&t. USA.

abailey535 says:

Its getting closer...A new phone will be released soon...ATT is trying to clear out their inventory...

Jmh89 says:

just bought a refurbed 1020 from AT&T for $50. Bugs me so bad that it doesn't have a micro SD slot.... But the camera is friggin awsome!

K0Zeus says:

Is that on contract or off?

Jmh89 says:

2 year contract

And by $50, you mean $610.

simphf says:

If you are in Canada it's $49 everyday at Robbers (rogers.com)

herbertsnow says:

Too bad it's on contract. I'll never get a phone on contract.

Ordeith says:

Neither will I, now that plans can be had without the built in phone subsidy.

A phone is not something I am willing to go into debt for.

herbertsnow says:

I hardly every talk on my phone so a monthly bill won't work for me. I'm using a 520 on H2O prepaid. Ten bucks every three months. It's the Forever Alone plan

StuBeck says:

Wish they would lower the price of the off-contract price.

elderjlward says:

SWEET DEAL!!! Makes me a little bothered that I paid $300 for mine even though I LOVE IT and think its awesome. This thing takes AWESOME pictures. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

FletchyT says:

Still looks like $600 bucks. Did I miss it?

RobHalligan says:

Does buying from Amazon with an existing ATT account work the same way buying from ATT would? It wouldn''t change my ATT account or anything like make me start with a new plan would it?

larrybon says:

No, but you have to use an account other than Amazon to purchase like a visa or MasterCard.

Anybody know where I can buy another leather lanyard for my 1020? The ones on eBay don't look legit.

Ed Boland says:

The camera grip comes with one.. Just sayin...

Ejay Lozano says:

I'm waiting on the Lumia martini (L930)

etad putta says:

I'm getting one of these somehow...

bsayegh says:

Everytime I see one of these deals I hope and hope that it will be off contract, only to find that it is, in fact, not. Still $600.

TechBell says:

On a new two year AT&T contract, this phone will ultimately cost you upwards of $2,500. It's better to buy it unlocked and add a cheapo pay-as-you-go plan for $30+ a month.

zr2s10 says:

So a single person on a data plan is going to pay over $230 per month?  Seems high.  Also, no smartphone data plans can be had for $30/month, that I have seen anywhere.  SmartTalk seems to be the best deal at $45/month. I think Boost can be had slightly cheaper, but network reliability could be an issue.  I agree that a prepaid plan can be the cheaper way to go for 1-2 people, but saying you'll pay a $2500 subsidy over 2 years for one phone?  Let's be realistic.

TechBell says:

I'm on a $30 pre-paid T-Mobile plan which gives me 5GB of data month plus voice/text. Works fine on my Lumia.

As for the $2,500 cost over 2 years - absolutely. The average single phone data/phone plan for AT&T with taxes is close to $95 a month. You do the math.

zr2s10 says:

Well, I'll give you the $30 with 5GB of data, but I've never seen anything that low around me, with that much data.  Is that in the US?  And not trying to pick at you too much (I know, I 'm coming off as a huge jackass, but not trying to), but in rural areas T-mo sucks, as does Sprint.  Big V and AT&T are pretty much my only options for decent signal, as I live in the boonies.

And for the math:

$95-$30=$65

$65 x 24 months = $1,560

So again, off-contract seems to be the better deal, but let's not get carried away.

Roach26 says:

Getting one at the end of the month. Not on contract though...

K0Zeus says:

I'd get it, but I'm already locked into a contract on AT&T and can't upgrade for another 16 months. It would cost me $250 just to terminate my current contract, another $50 for the phone, a $20 activation fee. That's $320 dollars already.

Any indication how long this deal might last?
