EE to stock Lumia 625, continues expanding UK's 4G network

Lumia 625

EE has announced plans to stock the Lumia 625, which was announced by Nokia yesterday in London. As well as taking up the most affordable 4G Windows Phone, the UK mobile operator has also expanded its LTE coverage to cover a further 10 locations. It makes perfect sense for the network to really take advantage of the cheaper 4G option to offer a more cost-effective solution to customers.

The company has turned on 4G connectivity in Altrincham, Bedford, Camberley, Crawley, Farnborough, Farnham, Maidstone, Rochdale, Tonbridge and Welwyn Garden City. EE now reports that it covers the homes and businesses of almost 60% of the UK population with 4G. That's not a bad roll out speed, it will be interesting to see how other UK providers can catch up when upgrading respective networks.

As well as EE, the Lumia 625 will also be available on Orange and T-Mobile brands. Here's what Nicola Shenton, Head of Devices at EE had to say on the Nokia Windows Phone:

"4G is incredibly important for the future of mobile in the UK, and EE is at the forefront. With the new Lumia 625, Nokia is helping to bring even more affordable, quality 4G devices to the market which will ensure 4G experiences are available to a broader audience."

Pricing and availability will be announced in the near future.

All they need to do now is work on not being extortionate. I know it's 4G but the prices are crazy.

Xbox live game of the week is ______?

TechsUK says:

4GEE price dropped £10 a few months ago. As i was an orange customer of 3 months only they asked for £3 more to give me unlimited txt/minutes and 1Gig. £31pm unbelievably fast. L920 Made my mates Android look daft.

Rod Hull says:

I'm intrigued as to why these locations were chosen to have the gift of 4G thrust upon them. I can only assume it is down to existing infrastructure, as there are for more populous locations that are managing still on just 3/3.5 G speeds

AndyGriff says:

All those towns have a population of the order of 50,000 and most are close to major conurbations that already have 4G. It probably is an infrastructure thing. What major UK towns and cities don't have 4G yet? (I'm not challenging your point; I actually don't know.)

Fndlumia says:

This really is a great phone for its size unless your a knob who carries on about 8cores 1080p or 4k displays etc, think I will get this for my son

More and more I see Nokia working with carriers to get the phones the carriers want, which I think is great, because if the carriers have interest they will promote the phone better. 625 and 925 are beginning of a trend I feel. No doubt UK is an important market.

rodneyej says:

Still no word on US availability❔

welsbloke says:

OK nice but when are you going to ship the 925? I was told the 925 was going to be available in July now they tell me it has disapeared of the coming soon list... not happy, it is the 925 I want or even the 720 not the 625 as nice as it sounds.

RepoUK says:

EE are way too expensive and the 4G reception/connectivity where I live is worse than their own 3G service.  Awesome, not.

Piers Lawson says:

I don't think they are going to get the 925, an Orange rep told us that it had "failed testing" a couple of times and was unlikely to be made available now. I presume they mean their branded version, since every phone shop under the sun will sell you an Orange contract with a 925. I don't think it is doing Nokia or EE/Orange/T-Mobile any favours... the 920 is nolonger available on their site either! Doesn't bode well for the 1020.
