Endomondo want you to beta-test their new Windows Phone app, help make it better

Back in January we reported that Endomondo had begun the process of remaking their popular running app for Windows Phone. Due in April, the company was soliciting feedback from you folks on features you wanted to see the most in a new app. We like when companies do that, instead of assuming that they know what’s best. Combined with Windows Phone’s unique features e.g. Live Tiles, Lock screen support and Modern design, there’s lots of opportunities for devs to make something unique.

Today, Endomondo posted on their Facebook that the beta was ready to get going. The process is super simple, meaning you should all participate!

Here are the instructions:

“Send us an email to info@endomondo.com - it should include your Microsoft Account ID (email that you use in the Microsoft Store). Within a week, we will send you a link where you can download the beta version. All you need to do from that point is to use the app as much as possible, no reporting needed!”

That’s it. You don’t even need, to file a beta report or anything with them, just use it. Of course, if you want to provide feedback, we’re sure they won’t mind.

Endomondo hasn’t been updated in nearly one year for Windows Phone and while it maintains a decent rating, it does have some issues with pausing and crashing for some users. This app refresh, which coincidentally ties in with the expected Windows Phone 8.1 update, seems like a good opportunity for the company to reclaim runners who use Windows Phone.

If you want to check out the non-beta/old version, you can download it here from the Store.

I'll send them an email. I'm considering switching to Nokia's app but so far I've stayed faithful to Endomondo. Maybe if succesful they'll also improve and re-release their Windows 8 app.

Shodan_HR says:

Nokia has an app similiar to endomondo?

papanoongaku says:

i don't have problems with current app, but it's finally getting above freezing and the paths are clear so it's time to start running.

Reinherz says:

Just need it. Good news.

KMF79 says:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be using this.

I wonder if they'll finally fix the elevation/altitude issue?  I would take my dog for a mile walk it it would report that I'd climbed and descended 20,000 feet.  I got tired of that and switched over to Runtastic.  If Enodmondo's elevation is on I'll probably come back since Runtastic doesn't autopause (at least in the free version).

WinU says:

I agree! I'm on Runtastic and it works great overall but I seen this post and considered Endomonod Sport Tracker because of the Auto Pause. Thought I would give it a try. However I also updated my rating on Runtastic that it would be great to have an Auto pause. I don't see the option on either the free or paid version.

honeyrapper says:

Altitude record, option to delete entries and a fix for the autopause bug. That all I need.

Things to look forward to:
•WP8.1
•WhatsApp update
•Endomondo beta
•Regular slew of the toib beta update
:D

CJ Thunder says:

Sent, hard to wait as I use it daily...almost.

The problem I see switching these apps is that I lose all my stats. That's a shame. I'm now with Adidas micoach and don't want to lose my stats again. I already lost many stats cos I used endomondo and runtastic for a while. I wished all these apps shared a stat database, or in some format so that you can transfer your achievements.

CJ Thunder says:

You can dl an excel sheet from endomondo I believe.

I hear TrackRunner for WP 8 has a big update coming. Support WP developers and get it: www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=95c6a10c-84a7-4c26-98eb-5d6b9df93698

filipek992 says:

Does it apply to 7.8 as well?

KDoubleU says:

Sweet! this is my daily driver...uh I mean runner

Schikitar says:

Hmmmn, I've been using Caledos Runner for well over a year, didn't like Endomondo that much and Runtastic app wouldn't let me get past the login screen. CR is connected to my RunKeeper account from when I moved from iOS, that was a good app (not available on WP)...

The Dane says:

Runkeeper had an app once, they pulled it for some reason.. Been using CR ever since..

XSportSeeker says:

I've been using it for... couple of months tops I think.
I'd apply for the beta, but honestly, for my limited use (couple of runs every week) it works perfecly already.

I've tried a couple of other apps that had some problems or I plain just didn't like the interface.

Well, perhaps some social features would be interesting... for instance, I'd kinda like to know the average distance and time people spent on the same park I'm currently running at.

But that's mostly a bonus feature, nothing essencial.

Though I doubt many people use Endomondo where I run... there's barely many people who use trackers, honestly.
