Expansys starts taking pre-orders for Samsung ATIV S

WP Central

Pre-order now, get it at the same time as everyone else

Preorders are kind of like the teaser preview in technology—they cost virtually nothing to produce but get a lot of people talking. Such is the case with Expansys now offering pre-orders for the ATIV S from Samsung.

The page is up both in Italy and even the US although there is no price listed nor ETA for a shipping date—in other words, they’re doing it for the links and headlines because let's be honest, this won't sellout early like the iPhone.

It is especially odd to see it for the US because while unlocked smartphones do have a market, US shoppers are way more inclined to buy it on contract via their carrier. But for the ATIV S, no carrier announcements have yet been made and since this unlocked version doesn’t have 4G LTE on board, it would seem like a bust for those on AT&T and even T-Mobile (the latter is expected to launch this phone with LTE too).

The device is also available in the Netherlands for pre-order.

So our advice? Let’s wait until T-Mobile (expected) and AT&T (probable) announce this device, configured for their network frequencies and at that discounted price, unless you’re really committed to an unlocked phone.

Probable? Did u do that on purpose or did u mean probably?

jaethos says:

Probable is the correct word in this case.

I am relishing the fact that someone was trying to be a smartass and correct my grammar when in fact, they're incorrect.

And yes, I most certainly intended 'probable'.

Simon Tupper says:

I Believe samsung will put the ATIV s in every carrier, it is nice hardware and it looks like they have put more work on this one than the S3, Samsung have a close relationship with money and having a ATIV s in every carrier is good for money.

Moral of the story is "don't take spelling advices from people who spell you as u".

I'm so sick of who will get what. Give me pentaband!

bc3tech says:

I like that they're calling it a Windows 8 phone. I hope MS advises this naming and it catches on. Not only does it more accurately describe the similarities from a code standpoint, but it also helps the two product lines work off each others' momentum.

topleya says:

UK site is also taking pre-orders

machina says:

why do they have to have an S in the name?
why not just ATIV?

Rockartisten says:

Maybe it's short for smartphone, just like Ativ Tab is short for tablet. Same with the Galaxy series. Ativ is a bad name though, they should have made a connection to Galaxy; Like "Samsung Solar S" or something along those lines.

Smg-Uk says:

I want a price on the UK site asap I wanna see if I could afford it if I sell my lumia 800

No one else thinks this is another blatant rip off of the iPhone? Albeit an elongated version. How much did samsung lose in the settlement and stock points?

The ATIVs has not made too many appearances since its introduction. Though we got to see a video walk-through of the device. - Thaddeus Heffner
