First teaser trailer for DOOM reboot for Xbox and PC is dark and scary, full reveal in July

doom reveal

It's a game that was first promised way back in 2008 and today publisher Bethesda Softworks finally released a teaser trailer for DOOM, the highly anticipated reboot of the long running sci-fi first person shooter franchise.

The trailer itself has all the hallmarks of previous DOOM games; it's dark, it's got brooding music, and it shows glimpses of biomechanical creatures before the full, if brief, reveal of this game's version of the Cyberdemon, the first boss from the original DOOM game, first released in 1993.

Developer id Software is once again in charge of making the new DOOM and Bethesda is promising a bigger reveal of the game in mid-July during QuakeCON 2014. That's the free LAN party that's held every year by id in Dallas, Texas. Windows Phone Central's own Paul Acevedo will be on-hand at QuakeCON for the reveal.

There's no release date for the new game but people who buy Wolfenstein: The New Order (out now for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, PS3 and PS4) will be invited to play in the beta test of DOOM when it is launched.

Interested to see the first iD software release that John Carmack isn't involved with.

StinkyMojo says:

this game has been in development for a few years, it's hard to imagine John not being involved in any way

Ed Boland says:

True, I guess the same can be said about any FPS 3D engine game. I mean, the guy invented the shit lol.. Hey, I wonder what happened to the Rage DLC we were supposed to get?

Ed Boland says:

But maybe without John being at iD for the final touches upon release, the game may actually have some content/story-line as opposed to being just a tech-showcase or proof of concept engine for other game publishers to license and build their games on.

StinkyMojo says:

That would be nice, I couldn't even finish Doom 3 because I got bored to death! :(

Ed Boland says:

Yeah, same here. I actually finished Rage, but that was because it was so short! We need another Quake III Arena! Man I miss those days...

I remember the first time playing wolfenstein. And downloading doom off the bbs. It was like 3 or 5 3.5 discs. :P

Those few megabytes must have taken you the whole night to download!

IceDree says:

Man, totally forgot about Doom ... I used to play it in school ... Got excited about the movie ... That movie was &$#% ... With all due respect to The Rock ... But man that was a crappy movie

QuakeCon's duel tournament should be a cracker if all the big names make it out there.. that games is still the pinnecale of FPS

I have been a big fan of the Doom games and still have the original PC version plus the sequels. However, this trailer is pretty useless I'm sorry to say. Let's hope the actual game is worth the wait.
By the way, I have typed this comment using the word flow prediction for 8.1 which is awesome and miles better than that Swype thingy we used to use back in the day.

Paul Acevedo says:

It's just a teaser. They seldom reveal any meaningful content, but I don't think that makes them useless.

I purchased Wolfenstein digitally on my Xbox One. Will I be able to join the beta for Doom?

neonspark says:

I don't know. I just can't care any more unless they really deliver something new and not just the same old concept with better graphics.

Thade780 says:

The Cyberdemon never looked so menacing.

Sin Ogaris says:

I thought Doom 3 was a reboot.

Paul Acevedo says:

It was... Well, either a reboot or a remake.

Jazmac says:

I can't wait!!
