GateGuru lands at the Windows Phone Marketplace
GateGuru is a travel app that has recently landed at the Windows Phone Marketplace. GateGuru has been a successful travel app on the iOS and Android platforms, success the developers are hoping will carry over to the Windows Phone platform.
GateGuru covers over 180 airports across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia providing maps detailing airport amenities, gate locations, check points and tips on how to get around or what to look for. Additional features include:
- View TripIt or KAYAK flight details
- Add or view airport security wait times
- Quickly sort amenities by rating or name to find the best option for you
- Bookmark function for airports and amenities
- High Flyers leaderboard
- Social media sharing (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Gowalla) to keep your network posted on your airport travels
Terminals are listed by your location or you can search the GateGuru terminal database. A GateGuru membership is available (free) through the app that will let you add your own tips, reviews and photos. If you decide not to become a GateGuru member, you'll still be able to access all the terminal information.
All in all, GateGuru is a nice Windows Phone resource for those who frequently or infrequently fly. GateGuru is a free app and you can find it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

NICE. I so need this now that I'm traveling for the site all the time, lol

I was really excited for this app, but it doesn't provide a complete experience. I'm a little bummed out..

My first time with the service. So far, I'm impressed with what it offers (though it can stutter a few times). Presumably they'll add more stuff as they update.
I like the TripIt, Twitter, Foursquare, Facebook integration. I can even pin JFK to my screen for quick access. I dunno, I think it's damn cool

As I travel a lot for business, I really love MyTrips for TripIt management. I will be trying out GateGuru for sure, mainly for the airport terminal and gate layouts than anything else. If MyTrips had this built-in, I doubt I woudl have any need for GateGuru.

This is my first time using the app, too! And I really do like what they have. I just wish they were able to tie in flight status information and departure/arrival information. This would perfectly complement the information they already display. Since it's not tied together, I have to pull up another app for flight information, then swtich back to this to get the airport information, when in reality, airports already have their maps pretty much every 30 feet.

Seems pretty nice to me, but I'm a casual flyer. What things would make this more complete to you? Are there features missing from the iOS version ect?

Don't get me wrong; it's a great app and truly one of its kind (at least in the WP marketplace), and is extremely valuable given its current feature set. I'm also not sure how it lives up to the iOS version since this is the first time I've used it. When I said a complete experience, I was hoping it would also provide flight status information - on-time/delayed/cancelled/etc. and the departure/arrival gate information. This, I feel, would round off the great information already provided by the app.
For instance, it currently shows all the terminal and gate information for major airports. Wouldn't be awesome if it said "your flight departs from Gate 3" and shows where Gate 3 is on the map. This would help you make useful decisions like where to eat closeby, shop, etc. When flights get delayed or change departure gates, you already have a visual of where you are and where you need to be because it shows where your flight's new departure gate is located. This, to me, provides a greater experience than the "check in" and other social features that seem to be highlighted in the app.

Using currently in airport. It pulled my flights from tripit, however it only shows me departure and arrival times. Being new to the app, I thought it would show me my gate. It does not. I really needed it since my gate changed!!

This was exactly what I meant in my comment above regarding the need to provide a complete experience. Hopefully it's coming in future updates.

Very surprised they don't give you gate numbers...

Been waiting on this since *clicks tag* Nov. 22, 2011. It had instantly made my to-get list.
