Prepare for animations as GroupMe for Windows Phone gets updated with GIF image support

GroupMe

GroupMe is a popular group-messaging app from Microsoft, enables you to communicate with multiple contacts at once in chatrooms. We previously covered version 4.7 back in December, which introduced a new group design. Today, we're looking at yet another update, bringing GIF support and more.

Here's the full change log for version 4.7.1:

  • View images and GIFs shared via URL in the chat
  • See which of your groups are muted
  • Hide Direct Messages
  • More bug fixes and improvements

GroupMe

We've used GroupMe when covering events and for general discussion and found it to be invaluable when needing to get hold of one another while mobile. It's a sweet service, available cross-platform, offering a free way for colleagues or friends to remain in contact.

You can download GroupMe from the Windows Phone Store for free.

I lov group me.. You can even use though the website groupme.com perfect html5 experience

Why not just add gift support into the native texting app? Not sure what they are trying to do here.

PureView says:

No. We shouldn't add every fucking thing we can think of right into the OS. Why not take all the 200,000 apps and integrate them into the OS?!

nizzon says:

This is like the future.

Sorry the comment isn't totally related but I don't know why Microsoft hasn't leveraged its assets like groupme and its former messenger to improve Skype. It seriously needs push notifications and adding contacts using phone numbers.
Skype can become something that can be like imessage, hangouts, whatsapp/viber and facetime on top of itself.
This will allow seamless messaging and calls between windows phones (maybe other os as well) free, automatically.

They've got way to many sister programs...this, Skype, messenger, messaging. Get your crap and gear and have one vision.

Anyone seeing a random comment totally irrelevant to the topic?

Robert Nowak says:

Pinned tiles stopped working in the new update.

MacDaMachine says:

God damn it. This isn't the first time they broke pins . And they only update the app like once a month at most. While they update the iPhone and android like every week.

mrshamoozoo says:

I never get weekly updates for the group me app on android, idk what u talking bout. I use wp8 and android

MacDaMachine says:

I don't know about recently, but last year it was definitely very rapid updates. WP would be once a month, sometimes once every two months.

mrshamoozoo says:

Yup my pinned groups have def broke for me as well. So frustrating, I use this app too much for work

rockstarzzz says:

Anyone knows what's going on with Telegram? Is it here yet? :'(

Aashish13 says:

Yes its cming might be this week 7 or 8 Feb

Mooncow27 says:

Much better than the app GropeMe.

This app is complete garbage on windows phone. It looks and performs like a beta

koenshaku says:

after every other social app already has groups...

canadian1der says:

I am hoping they build Groupme & Skype into WP 8.1. Groupme functionality in WP Rooms would be a godsend, you could finally message groups without them needing to be using WP.
