Halifax plans to give you extra with new Windows Phone app

Halifax

Halifax has finally released its Windows Phone app. We last looked at parent Royal Bank of Scotland launching an app on Microsoft's mobile platform, knowing it would only be a matter of time before Halifax followed suit. This latest UK banking app joins the likes of RBS and Natwest, offering consumers new ways to stay in control of money while on the move.

Features highlighted on the store listing include the following:

  • Find Halifax branches, ATMs and LINK ATMs in the UK
  • Sign in with your Online Banking details
  • View balances and transactions
  • Make transfers between your Halifax UK personal and savings accounts
  • Securely set up and make payments

You can download Halifax from the Windows Phone Store (available both Windows Phone 7 and 8). Thanks, 603090569, for the tip!

Finally! Think a lot of UK members will be happy with this news :)

Man I want a Lloyds TSB WP App.

EDDS says:

+1, NFC payment support wouldn't go a miss too.

It won't be too far off if they've done the Halifax one. Halifax and Lloyds TSB run on the same computer systems.

Last time i asked, i was told that there was no roadmap to ever produce for WP, hopefully now things will change!?!

Racxie says:

I would love for HSBC to release an app, but I am glad about this news as it shows more mainstream support for our beloved platform :)

Posted this on a thread yesterday. Halifax have nothing to do with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). Instead they are merged with Bank of Scotland (BOS) to form HBOS with Lloyds TSB as their parent company.

Halifax AND Bank of Scotland (BOS) both released their apps yesterday, and like their iphone and blackberry apps, they suck. Its basically a atm/branch finder with a link to their mobile site for your account activities.

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and NatWest apps are far superior and its unfortunate HBOS and Lloyds can't follow suite. Mobile site works but a native app would have been more streamlined.

When I read this I thought "I wonder if this is just a wrapper for the mobile site like their app for iOS?". Turns out I was right :-(

Dazzi says:

That's great news -- lets hope they update their app a.s.a.p, so it's not a mobile wrapper.

Cubeddd says:

They won't. Their Blackberry and iPhone apps have been this way since the dawn of time. They don't seem to have the technology or security to make a native app and intergrate it into their systems.

Dazzi says:

Serious? That's lame -- it looks like I'll have to continue using their website or change banks lol

Ushae says:

Still waiting on a HSBC app :(

AR2186 says:

Halifax is the "H" in HBOS, and has nothing to do with RBS. HBOS is now part of Lloyds. I worked for RBS's IB in the US for years, their banking brands are Citizens (US), Charter One (US) NatWest (England), Ulster (Ireland, RBS (Scotland) and Coutts (private banking).

Barclays. Take note...

Bigsro says:

+1 Come on Barclays!

Al_2 says:

This app is terrible, it's just a wrapper to the mobile site and it's very tedious to login. It's incredibly slow and actually quicker just to use the browser. At least it's not just Windows Phone...their iOS, Android and Blackberry apps are exactly the same!

kirklyt says:

Even though I'm not one of its many customers and would be users, this is actually good news for WP growth. Official banking/finance apps are imo so important to have on any mobile platform that wishes to succeed. I hope the time will come that @ the least every WP users can finally say we have all the apps that we actually need. Great news.! Thumbs up.!

pedenske says:

I serously thought this was an app for Halifax, Canada at first, lol. too early for me :D

sHAYM4N says:

Nope, the original Halifax ;-) Halifax, West Yorkshire

PurpleOmen says:

And where is Nationwide?! Taking looong!!!

bigstevenc says:

Yes, yes, yes Nationwide on WP please

Sharpmango says:

Indeed, RBS is parent of Natwest. Halifax and Bank of Scotland are one company called HBOS which is wholly owned by LloydsTSB. Still understandable why a non Brit would get in a muddle, its a bit confusing!

sHAYM4N says:

IO Shaymen!

IrRevd says:

The Royal Bank of Scotland is not the parent of Halifax. The (not royal) Bank of Scotland and Halifax did however merge but are now both owned by Lloyds TSB owner, Lloyds Banking Group.

Pedantic I know but hey.

mcivor88 says:

santander soon please :) i know they have a mobile site that works fine but a full app would be good

Logix1 says:

Waiting for a Yorkshire Bank Mobile app......Anyone know if there is a Yorkshire Bank app in the pipeline?

eddz says:

I am begging for hsbc app. hello Hsbc customers exist

There wont be any HSBC app any time soon. Last time I emailed HSBC on that, they just sent me a dull copy & paste kind of answer saying they weren't interested in introducing app for WP platform. The lack of apps and interest from Microsoft is why I'll most likely leave WP for iPhone or Android next year. If they don't care, why should their customers.

MattLFC says:

There's been a bit of a backlash on the nationwide Facebook regarding their lack of an app, spearheaded by myself haha. This is more fuel for the fire! :D

Robert Grant says:

This app is pretty awful; looks like an iOS app, and a poor one at that. Needs native controls, not just a wrapper to a mobile site.
